The way a lot of people in places like Toronto and Vancouver have the money to buy houses is this: they lived in houses bought before the market rose, then sold them for often triple the money.

Seriously though, I just want to get all the equipment and tools I need to basically start my own economy... mining minerals, metalurgy, welding, wood working, utilize water resources, hunting, fishing... annnnnd I could go on and on. Then with Starlink... could still pwn newbs online when I'm not busy building whatever I want.
I'd make a place for like 10 million that would cost rich people who hire everyone to do all the work 110 million.
To me throwing a bunch of expensive paintings and art all over a house that looks like it came out of Ikea except shinier... and have it cost like 100 million dollars.... I'm like... what a f^ing waste :P. But hey, to each their own, I don't get upset over what other people do with their money... BUUUUT I can make fun ya know? Like I saw this house that had a refrigerator the size of a small bedroom, for their garbage... sure the cold slows the bacterial growth and putrid smell from developing as quickly but... really? REALLY? Just put it outside... it's okay... I won't tell anyone you have poor man trash tendencies like the rest of the world :P
snobby club: "Oh my goodness... did you see it? DID YOU SEE George the other day taking his garbage to the street like a filthy peasant?
George: "How DARE YOU TELL! Prepare to have your stocks assaulted with great vigor!!!!"

In Sweden, you can buy almost two fully built houses. Yes. A house in the villages around Sweden costs 50,000 dollars, or 500,000 Swedish crowns, so yeah, you can buy a lot of houses in the Swedish villages. In the Swedish cities, houses and apartments costs around 100,000 dollars, or 1 million Swedish crowns, and that's a rough estimate. I only pay around 6-7, maybe 8 or 9 thousand Swedish crowns a month for my ground level apartment, and it's big enough for two or three people, and it's not even a large apartment. We Swedes have it way too good. Also, you can buy an entire farm for one million dollars

In fact, most people aren’t moving. They simply refinance and put the money back into their properties. Many old properties are being updated and look very modern. It’s very smart because the areas value continues to rise. No different than stocks.

Just a remark re South Africa... Yes, you could buy luxury accommodation here with $1 million, including underfloor heating... Just one problem: you'd need an alternative or backup source of electricity, as we currently have load shedding (no electricity from Eskom) for as much as 10.5 hours per day (per 24h). Most households who can afford it, are installing solar power systems to "bridge the gap".

The only reason I have 2 is so I can give one to my daughter when she is 18, because I know for a fact she and others her age will never be able to buy a house here. Hell, even some friends I have in their 30's and 40's might as well hang up the skates and give up on the idea of owning a home, because it just can't happen here anymore. It sux ass.

I'd also be curious if the areas the buildings are would be subject to flooding, earthquakes, hurricanes, tidal surges, forest fires etc. You would have to dig deep and big for the insurance on some of these places.

On this list, my favorite style is the one near Cali, Columbia. But it would be too big for me. I only have my mom and several cats anyway.
My own current tiny and modest home has less than 1000 m² in the suburban area in Sumatra, Indonesia, and the price is only less than $100K. It's peaceful but lack of the breathtakingly beautiful scenery (unless you love the view of the grand Chinese graveyard next door like me, LoL).
If I have $1M, I will buy a bigger fertile land in a beautiful, serene, secluded place by a lake or river and build another tiny and modest yet fully secure home there. ❤ I believe it would only take about $300-500K here. I'll invest the rest of my money or just keep them safe in the bank... 😁
    Dream on...

If you really wanna live a minimalist life. you can build a wooden home for under 5K USD, roughly 10K XCD or something more modern ranging from 30K XCD - 500K, 12KUSD- 220K USD.

Just buying my first house here in Auckland New Zealand, and don't expect to live near the city center for $1 million unless you like 1or 2 bedroom apartments. Problem is as over inflated as the housing market is, it would wreak our economy if we suddenly fixed the housing supply too. So much finance is tied up in the real estate market and so much borrowing is leveraged off of the value of housing that if it suddenly lost value it would take down so many businesses with it. Say my $630K house is only worth $600K next year, the bank will be on me to cover the difference and somehow come up with $30K. People who started businesses by borrowing against their house will suddenly have the rug yanked out from under them.

New Zealand house prices start at a million in the cities and farms are more, so small towns are the only option for under this. We have a current housing crisis with to many foreigners buying houses and land. Queenstown for example is full of empty mansions owned by silicon valley elite as there bolt holds. This has caused all the locals who run the town and tourist attractions to not be able to afford the few rentals avalible and have to live miles away or some even being homelesd yet still fully employed. The government has changed some things so overseas people cant do this anymore, however we still have a large homeless population and new immigrants still pouring in. Its such a shame to see my country come to this.

18:30. We looked at that house when we got married in 2017. It was cheaper then. However, it is misleading. It is a duplex. The 2200 square feet is for one side of the duplex. So it’s double the square footage and double the price. Gorgeous house. We decided to move 3 miles outside of downtown in Indian Village. You should see what 1 mil would do there.

With the California ones... yeah, if you buy in the Bay Area or Southern California your money isn't going to go very far. But if you buy in the counties that aren't super populated like the Sierra Nevada Foothills portion of the state where it's remarkably cheaper then your money will stretch a lot farther. The average median house price where I live in California is around $400,000. Are there cheaper houses here? Yes. Are there more expensive houses here? Yes. I bought my own house in 2008 after the market crashed and now it's worth almost 3x what I paid for it and my morgage payment is a remarkably low $743 a month. Rent here for a 3 bedroom 2 bath house is around $2000 for reference so my morgage is super cheap by comparison. Especially since minimum wage in California $14 an hour which is really high compared to most other states but since California is known to be expensive to live in you can't work that and rent a $2000 house (and I only work part time even if I make $2 over minimum wage). My sister and I were the smart ones who bought our houses in our 20's so that now we're in our 30's we pay way less in morgage payments then we would be for rent. It's the only way my sister would have been able to have the 3 kids that she has lol. My brother on the other hand didn't think things through and he and his wife and their three kids live with our dad because he simply can't afford rent prices and our dad bought his house a few years back.
