      I love how sudden and understated it is. In any other movie, you'd probably expect a character as loud and brass as Tommy to go out in gloriously OTT fashion, but Goodfellas is not most other movies. Tommy is dealt with quickly and quietly... which is probably what he deserves.

    "Jimmy was cutting every link between himself and the robbery, but it had nothing to do with me," says the guy who knew all about the heist and got a hefty cut of the take. I would've started worrying as soon as I saw those dead bodies start turning up.

      Henry wasn't pestering Jimmy for money or flashing his cash stupidly like those other guys. Plus Henry regularly made Jimmy money through his Pittsburgh drug deals....Henry was a big earner (unlike those other guys) so that's why he wasn't worried

    This music works perfect as an upbeat soundtrack for a happy ending... and in a way this sequence marks the ending of the first half of movie where the mob is portraited as a glamorous, friendly association. After "Layla" plays out, the movie turns darker, is all about betrayal and the slow decay of each character until the bitter ending.

    Many people may resent Henry for ratting out Jimmy and Paulie, but this shows why he did what he did.
    At the end, Henry was the very last person with inside knowledge on the Lufthansa heist still alive, and the last person that could link Jimmy to the Lufthansa heist.
    There's no doubt in my mind that he was seeing the hand writing on the wall after this.

    • @75aces97
      @75aces97 2 ปีที่แล้ว +34

      This was Henry's side of the story, but the way investigators and Jimmy told it, Henry wasn't nearly as important to this crew as he made himself out to be. The cops who worked the Lufthansa case said they had a pretty good idea who did it, since it was such an audacious robbery there were only so many crews who would try it, let alone pull it off. Just a matter of getting the evidence to stick.

    What I love is the hypocrisy of the scene after jimmy finds out. You get the whole "They shot him in the face so his ma couldnt even get an open casket funeral" or something like that. Ignoring the fact that they literally beat and stabbed a made man to death then disappeared his body so his family didnt even have a BODY to bury. Tommy didnt deserve any respect in his getting whacked, and it wasnt even remotely over the line how they responded to it. In fact it was pretty measured. Boom, headshot, done deal. Not like casino where he gets to watch his brother beaten into a coma, then gets the same himself then both are buried alive in the desert.

He had undiagnosed manic depression and is now serving a life sentence for murdering his mother. When Clapton’s unplugged version of Layla was a hit he was reportedly asked about it and said he’d track down Clapton and kill him too. I think its funny that someone who had the balls to say some movies aren't even cinema (Scorcese) gets so much credit for cool 'kill scenes' and a reliance on violence, pop music and shocking people throughout his career to create his "masterpieces". It's a cheap trick using violence, music and a sudden shift to the macabre to create a quote 'masterpiece' ask Quentin. Not masterpieces folks. We all like cool violence that is all. It's a cheap trick just like we like comic book movies.
