Both of those SG's are beautiful, however I'd have to go with the SG Standard just because of the red aniline dye, that mahogany is too pretty to cover up. Same with the ebony Les Paul, just a black top would be perfect with natural back and sides.

Used to own a 2017 Gibson USA SG standard which got stolen and i replaced and upgraded to a custom shop 61 reissue. I thought the 2017 was fantastic but i didn't realize how sub par it was until i got the custom shop which is just beyond immaculate. I ended up with the gold top SG Rhett Shull did a demo on in his video on custom shop guitar hunting. Ive always been wanting you to compare a Gibson USA and a Gibson custom shop Sg side by side, please make it happen Trogly! Happy fathers day!
I'm pretty sure Gibson does not reverse the headstock logo or script for LH guitars. That is the norm for a left hand Gibson, upside down and slanted backwards.
The original late 50s and 1960 lefty Les Pauls used right handed necks with an additional set of fret markers. Gibson reissues replicate this for historical accuracy.

Charging extra for a LH guitar and still using a RH neck, at least took the trouble to Gibson mirror the body and pickup controls! Thanks to you I now have two Demo shop guitars. A 2013 Future Tribute that I swapped the knobs and tuners on for a semi sstudio looking version of a Classic and a 2016 60's Tribute with the P90's both in vintage burst. And you are right that Gibson rates the condition lower than it should be.
5:10 I believe the reason why Gibson wont ship internationally is because of the whole rosewood issue. It's still illegal, under normal circumstances to ship products made with rosewood overseas without jumping through a bunch of hoops. Likely Gibson chose not to change to Pau Ferro fretboards on the USA stuff which prevents them from shipping out of the country. This is obviously not a problem with Epiphone made stuff, since they have likely changed fretboard material.
That is how they were made in late 50’s and 1960. Gibson used right handed necks and just added an additional set of fret markers on lefties. The reissues replicate this for accuracy to the originals. If you see photos of Paul McCartney playing his genuine original lefty Les Paul you will notice that the logo on the headstock is upside down.

And I don’t know enough about what to look for when authenticating the real Paul’s from the counterfeit models. Do you ever consult, or give advice on what to look for? There are many lefties on reverb, but i just don’t know what is a good deal, and what isn’t What’s your advice for us left handed buyers?
He does do consultations. He will hunt one down for you if asked as he offers that as a service. He assisted Robert Baker in finding a Gold Top Les Paul built on his birthday (or maybe it was Mr. Baker's birth year). If you've got the funds and you want a real one Trogly (Austin) will find you one.

Thanks for the Father's day SG's, although I wish you'd document my 50th anniversary SG Special in Alpine White which has only 1 hour of play on it, and is a real 50th made in August of 2011, and a Gibson rep said there were only about 800 2011s. Unfortunately they made more in 2012, and a few in 2013, but mine is the best sounding, and playing p90 equipped SG I've owned, and I've had a 63, and a couple of later ones. I'm not a father, and my own father has been gone now for a year-and-a-half. It's still important to me because of how close we were and how integral he was to my musical pursuits. The SG series has always fascinated me, even though none of them has ever tickled my fancy enough to buy one. If I did and I thought it was worth the extra clams to do so, I would likely choose the Custom.

Played a $7200 Trini Lopez at the Gibson Garage last week. I had two simultaneous thoughts: 1. No way I would ever spend $7200 on a non-vintage guitar and 2. I totally get why this thing cost $7200. I’m not knocking the USA line but custom shop is just different. BTW, you need to get down to that Gibson Garage, Austin. They did a great job with it; totally worth the trip.

This demo was a surprise. Liked this Tele quite a bit, Trogly, should lower the mini humbucker and the micro-phonic sounds should go. By the looks of it (although hard to tell for sure on video) would guess that was another "oops" by Fender QC, the mini humbucker looks a bit high. At first thought the color was terrible. Quickly changed my mind after finding out the purpose of the flat primer grey, on stage is absorbs and reflects the color of the stage lights. Making the Tele appear like various brilliant tones during a live performance. Must admit it's a killer idea for the stage. Thanks Trogly, another informative vid. Cheers

I think you said that you were forwarding it to someone in Canada? It looked to me that the neck was for a right handed model? I say that because if you were playing the guitar left handed the Les Paul logo would be upside down? That would definitely make that a one-off guitar. Am I wrong? I deleted my first comment. At first thought the Les Paul silk screen was upside down on that lefty. But no it has a right handed neck. The side marker dots are on the bottom of the neck and not the top. Gibson really messed that one up. Lol

I just bought a 2011 Gibson SG 60's tribute with p90's for $500 on craigslist. It has beautiful dark frets. Alas it has dot inlays but it plays nice.

R0s are a bit of a strange bird. They can come in 3 different versions. All have different neck profiles. The V1s feature the earlier style knobs.
Double ring tuners are also correct

Is the binding more white than they used to be? I had an early 2000s black standard and the binding was such a dark Creme color, looked terrible

buy an ESP viper or an eclipse for a little over 1k, and you'll get that feel of a gibson custom shop that you're looking for. Maybe even better.

I love SG's (got 2 of 'em). That cherry one looks exactly like my 61R. Still prefer my '92 Standard though (much prefer the stop bar over the vibrola). Straight up, no frills rock beasts!

I deleted my first comment. At first thought the Les Paul silk screen was upside down on that lefty. But no it has a right handed neck. The side marker dots are on the bottom of the neck and not the top. Gibson really messed that one up. Lol
No - all the left handed Gibson Custom Les Paul reissues are like this as they replicate the original Les Paul lefties which all used right handed necks with an additional set of fret markers.
