A billion years from now, when our future life forms look back at our contribution to the betterment of our world, let us be judged on the capacity of the spirit that is capable of creating, producing, interpreting and enjoying that feeling of hope, joy and positive feelings from such an exceptional piece of music. We are indeed indebted to all time to Maestro Beethoven, Maestro Zubin Mehta, and each member of the NHK Symphony Orchestra, and to everyone involved in the production of this masterpiece. I can’t see the keyboard through the tears streaming down my face. Even my ears wept from this Ode to Joy! Bravo! Bravo! Bravo!
Always moving, this masterpiece from Beethoven and well rendered by the NHK Symphony under Zubin Mehta's baton. I also pay tribute to the great Choral Lyrics by Friedrich Schiller.
Wonderfull! This councert shows that music is the universal language! and Bethoven is one of the greatest composers , the most human and signifies fredom! Subin Metha is one of the bestt conductors of our time and the orchestra was great!
Bellísimo! Perfecto! Dios inspiró a Bethoven.
As a young boy back in the 60s, I heard a song called Emerald City by the Seekers. I loved it. After a few months maybe, my father was playing an old DGG recording of a large choir ‘song’, as it was to me. (It wasn’t a Mehta recording). It was the Ode To Joy part on the LP. I came into the room and told him that this was a Seekers song. I will not forget the look of deep disappointment on his face. The 9th under Mehta is ethereal.
A fantastic rendition of the greatest single music piece the human race will ever have created. 1000 years from now, if humans are still around, this will continue to be the very best Symphony of all time. Once, my wife and I had the privilege of hearing all of this live in the Symphony Hall in my city. We got in with a pass thanks to the wife of one of the performers on stage who I worked with (the lady that is, not the performer). The Rendition of this particular performance may be the best I've EVER heard. The only time I've heard this level and length of applause was in the 1970s, when I saw a broadway show in New York City, a revival of The King And I with Yul Brynner.
Thank you for uploading this performance of Zubin Mehta conducting the symphony of all symphonies🎶💕. Does anyone know which orchestra this is/date of performance? (someone left a comment that it may be a fundraiser after the 2011 Fukushima disaster?)
For me this was always one of the best performances I could find on youtube.. that's why I know: " On April 10, 2011, Zubin Mehta conducted a charity concert benefitting the survivors of the Great Eastern Japan Earthquake occurred on March 11. In the concert he conducted Beethoven's Symphony Number 9 with NHK Symphony Orchestra. * Zubin Mehta and the orchestra of Maggio Musicale Fiorentino was in Tokyo when the Great Eastern Japan Earthquake struck. Just after Zubin had lunch with his wife who had a birthday on that day, they had a big earthquake. After the destructive earthquake, Zubin and the Florence-based Orchestra had to suspended their performance and return home to Italy due to power supply problem in Tokyo. When Zubin left Japan, he said in tears that "it is very sad that we cannot perform for friends in Japan. But I believe we can encourage the victims of the March 11 earthquake in near future and I promise that I will return to Japan". * He kept his words and came to Japan to perform Beethoven's Symphony Number 9. Although Zubin had only a day to rehearse with NHK Symphony Orchestra, their performance was magnificent , and made the audience spellbound. Zubin and the Orchestra performed "Air on the G string" to display their grief and to pay their respect to the victims of the March 11 earthquake. Therefore they asked the audience not to applaud after performance. The audience praised their performance as "it was so passionate and I have never seen that", "vibrancy of cello and horns moved me" and "while I was listening to their performance, I somehow understood why Zubin selected Beethoven's Symphony Number 9". Zuibn Mehta had a memorial concert to encourage the victims' families on 9/11. He conducted Mahler's Symphony Number 2 "the resurrection" at the memorial concert in New York, and he performed Beethoven's Symphony Number 9 in Tokyo. Every December in Japan, many concerts of Beethoven's Ninth Symphony are held. It is actually said that Japanese are people who love Beethoven's Ninth Symphony most. However this time was totally different, it had a special meaning to Japanese. I think that the audience who listened to their performance clearly understood the meaning of the forth movement of Beethoven's Ninth. *

does this concert have something to do with the "Japan earthquake relief concert"?
Gracias.
