    Why shoot game birds?
Game is wild, natural and free range, and it is one of the healthiest meats available today. It is low in cholesterol and high in protein. Results from research commissioned by the Game-to-Eat campaign (Leatherhead Food International Research 2006) suggest that there are real health benefits to eating game. Both pheasant and partridge contain high levels of iron, protein, vitamin B(6) and selenium, which helps to protect cells from damage caused by free radicals.
In addition to the nutritional benefits of game, game shooting is worth £2 billion annually to the rural economy and supports 74,000 jobs. There are 480,000 (UK government figures) active game shooters in the UK who enjoy bird shooting under the principles of the Code of Good Shooting Practice.
More than 2 million hectares are actively managed for shooting in the UK creating proven (PACEC, 2014) conservation benefits and preserving important habitats for a diverse range of flora and fauna, in particular farmland birds. UK shooting providers spend £5.4 million on cover crop seeds every year and maintain over 25,000ha of wild-bird cover.

what happened to the safety rule of closing the stock to the barrels ,not the barrels to the stock with barrels pointing safely at the ground? There was a flag man in front of him on the first drive and he swung up through the camera on the second . Does he handle a gun like that when close to a covert drive? This is not a good advert for safe gun handling

Why do we pattern shotguns on a still broad surely swinging as if you where on a bird then firing at the board would give better info back

After watching several of these videos , however flamboyant the action i find myself disappointed by the way some of shooters close there gun. Come on boys stock to barrells please keep the muzzle to the ground when closing.

glad to see someone else has noticed - I was beginning to think I was the only one who knew how to close a gun! this is a dangerous practice and is creeping into game shooting . in clay shooting it seems to be accepted practice, even used by some coaches!

Absolutely dreadful isn't it!!! Novices watching will think it is the correct way to do it. Trouble is there are very few videos of game shooting on youtube that actually portray good gun handling. Poor gun closing and a lot of swinging through the line!!!

3.23 if I'm not mistaken that's Dave carrie in the background ? see theres a few Wenger's on here (rich toff and all that) no skill? That's why you will always be loser's, save your money up and buy a day or get involved and use that money to help fund it open your wallet and your mind you might enjoy it.

the man should have been thrown off the shoot for being unsafe. Once upon a time the head keeper could , and sometimes did, send guns off the field . Perhaps they ought to start doing this again . Legend has it that a much 'feared and respected' keeper sent a minor royal off with a flea in his ear!

I'm surprised you think killing live creatures is a "game".
I have no problem whatsoever with people going out with a gun and stalking and shooting a pheasant for the pot. But this sort of driven shoot requires almost no real skill (unless you're one of those who couldn't hit a barn door at 5m). The birds are basically sitting ducks.
Time for this to be banned, just like the even more appalling pastime of foxhunting.

    • @lukewhitehouse4683
      @lukewhitehouse4683 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

MrHistorian123 there would be no pheasants to hunt for the pot as you say, if shooting was banned. They are introduced to the land to be shot. Doesn’t sound like you’ve ever shot at high birds, certainly not easy

I am a shooter and have been for over 35 years. Shooting pheasants, pigeon, rabbit's and so on and also some deer stalking. But I still find it hard to hear people refer to it as "sport". I don't shoot for sport, I shoot for a reason. Give the anti's' fuel for their cause why don't you. I also agree (partially) with another comment on these shoots are just a bunch of toff's. The cost of a day on these shoots is astronomical. How can keen shooters like myself afford to go to these shoots ?. I would really love to. So, in reality, all toff's. Millionaire's playground

Warter Priory is a great shoot , but the head keeper( FRANK CROFT) is
an over bearing control freak who is nothing more then a bully and
abuses his position as Head Keeper .

Indefensible that these shot birds are incinerated on site ...this conduct will lead to a ban on driven shooting...and rightly so , this coming from an ex keeper.
