It’s a *great* idea to knit a blanket and send it to Australia. We are 5 days into 2020 and half of the country is burning down. Half a billion animals have tragically died, and blankets are being accepted for the animals that barely managed to escape but got sent to veterinary centres.

I've made two of these blankets and I love the stitch. First time I doubled it and second time I didn't. I used the Bernat blanket yarn (6). So so soft. They were gifts and they loved it. Starting another right now.
I am a beginner in Knitting and I really like all of the things that I have seen so far. Thank you for this video on how to make this double knitted Throw Blanket. I am going to try and do this next.
It’s an Irish Moss pattern. I’ve used this for scarves for my dad. I’ve never done it with two balls of yarn at once but good to know that works well for making blankets.
Lunar Knits by Lori What is the finished size of this blanket? Your blog just said “This blanket isn’t approximately 40inch x 40inch before blocking.” If it ISN’T 40x40, what is it? I really appreciate your efforts in teaching us how to make this beautiful blanket, but some of us are new to knitting and more information would be helpful. How many skeins do we need? Instead of doubling our yarn, can we used a yarn that has the same bulk as the two of these together? If so, would the seed stitch still look as nice as your method does? Thank you for help! ❤️😊❤️
@@WhatTheHellRachelle I'm new to knitting as well, but I have done some research, and bulk+bulk=new bulk, they can be added together and the size can be used for that. I think it would give a different result, as everytime you would do a stitch, it would only be 1 throw and not 2. I still think it would look amazing and super squischy though.
@@LunarKnitsbyLori Well, that's inconvenient. Also, it's fewer stitches, not less stitches. Fewer is for countable items, less is for things that aren't countable.
did you need additional balls of yarn for the project or did you have yarn left? if you had yarn left, about how much was left and how long was the ball of yarn initially?
Lunar Knits by Lori If I wanted to make my blanket size a little bit bigger than 40x40, how would i figure out how many additional cast on stitches to add? I have 2 skeins of yarn, each skein is 431 yards. I would like to use as much of my yarn for the blanket but if I put too many cast on’s and run out, is my blanket then ruined?? Sorry for all the questions, I’m a beginner to knitting. Also very great video, your blanket came out so beautiful!! Thanks :)
Great video! I just started a blanket using thick n quick lion's brand wool, and size 13 circular needles. I am about 8 rows in and noticing that my blanket is twisting. Should I stop or is this normal? I have 186 stitches. Could my circulars be too short? I am using 29in circulars.. Should I be on 36" needles to avoid the twisting? (to clarify- my stitches aren't twisted, its just my project that is twisted)
Does the end of the row have to end with the same stitch as I began the row? For example, if I start with a knit, do I finish the row with a knit? Thanks!
After finishing the 1st row, I’m confused as to how I start the 2nd row with the knit pearl knit pearl technique if my last stitch on the 1st row ends with a pearl stitch.
I agree. I'm confused. Shouldn't the route end in a knit stitch to resume row two with a knit stitch. You mentioned that rows one and two there would be a knit stitch where there was a knit stitch and purl stitch wherea purl stitch is. But if I end on a purl stitch , my first stitch in row two would be a purl. I'm so confused
For me I just recognize what a knit stitch looks like versus a Purl stitch. A Purl stitch looks like a bump and the knit stitch like a V. If you can notice that, it should help you read your knitting easier
@@LunarKnitsbyLori I’m working with size 6 wool so it’s a bit hard to see but as I keep going I’m getting better at identifying them. Thank you!! I look forward to gifting this blanket to my nephew that’s due next month ♥️
If you use something different than a 20 your gauge will be different. So you would end up with a blanket bigger or smaller than what I made. You can 100% still follow the pattern, you just may want to cast on more or less depending on what size you’re wanting to make your blanket.
ok thank you so much for your explanation! ive decided to get the needles from hobby lobby. i love your blanket and i want mine to turn out like yours! haha thanks!
haha oops i was signed in on my husbands! im glad that you still use them! i saw a couple reviews that said they broke. so im glad they are still working for you! and yes, cant forget the coupon! :)
Isabella Mercado it depends how big you want your blanket. I would probably cast on between 38 and 46 stitches. As long as you use an even number, you can cast in any amount.
Hi Lori. How do I find the written pattern and material list. I am new to knitting and hope I can give this throw a try. Do you have any instructional videos for a beginner left handed ? Thank you
You can find the material list and written instructions on my blog: Lunarknitsbylori.Wordpress. Com. I do not currently have any left handed videos. But if you check out bhooked here on TH-cam, I think you’ll find some very useful things!
Different balls of yarn / different brands are different lengths. Her ball of yarn may have been 80yards. The ball of yarn you buy may be 65 yards or 95 yards etc. that way you can figure out how many balls you need based on yard length regardless of how big the yarn balls are.
Casting on and off in pattern should make a more flexible edge (never tried it in double stranded knit). Lots of good videos on youtube if anyone wants to alter this lovely pattern slightly that way and see if it works, but needs pointers.

Beautiful blanket! I cannot wait to try this out, thanks for the video :)
Love this! I am just getting started. How do I add more yarn when I run out? (for it to look consistent)
I literally just start knitting with the new yarn, leaning a tail for weaving in after.
Making this now. Very easy, so soft. I'm using bernat baby blanket yarn chunky and Size 17 needles.
I’m so happy you’re living it! It has to be so squishy with that yarn! 😍

Hello Lori,
How many balls of yarn to use with this pattern? On your website its stated in yards and not how many balls.
Different balls of yarn / different brands are different lengths. Her ball of yarn may have been 80yards. The ball of yarn you buy may be 65 yards or 95 yards etc. that way you can figure out how many balls you need based on yard length regardless of how big the yarn balls are.
For king size blanket how many rings to cast on on US 10 No. needles
Does it matter if I start with a short tail cast on instead of long tail?
Nope! Any cast on method you prefer will work!
How many bags of yarn did you use?
Awesomely beautiful!!!! But do you have to use two strains of yarn 🧶 to get that beautiful and texture feeling and look?
It won’t be as chunky! But you can definitely make it with one strand! Thank you! 💓
