Thank you, Bach Scholar. I’m a jazz musician whose recently began studying Bach Chorales. Your videos and blog post are invaluable. Also, I have to agree that chorales are much more beautiful (generally) than some hot, flashy etude. They’re exactly what I needed right now. This is the third chorale I’ve learned so far. The first two were BWV 26 and BWV 262. I just figured I’d leave a comment because I’ve got 40 chorales on the list, so I’m going to be watching/reading your content for a while. Thanks again!
Also, in what order do you think I should begin to add the 2 part inventions and Well Tempered Clavier into my practice sessions? I’ve given a cursory pass over inventions 2, 4 and 13, and memorized the first prelude in c major, but I’m thinking I should hold off on really digging into them until after I’ve worked through the 40 chorales. What do you think?
Thank you so much for these. I'm finding the two part versions to be fantastic for my ear training. I'm transcribing them in my head, and then playing them on the piano in all 12 keys.
Anyone know the difference between BWV 4 and BWV 277? They sound like the same piece to me. I'm confused, clearly I'm missing something obvious regarding this.
BWV 4 is in E minor and BWV 277 is in D minor. But they are not just transpositions, but the chords and bass lines are different, although the soprano melodies are almost the same.

I love that book of 371 chorales. It is truly a treasure trove. Great sight reading practice too.

Thanks! Yes, the two-part versions are ideal for ear training and sight singing!
I LOVE the B7 to C in the third to last measure...
Excellent
