  • Field Marshal Montgomery Pipe Band at the British Championships at Battery Park on Saturday 21 May 2022.
This was a medley competition and the tunes listed in the programme were:
Edinburgh City Police Pipe Band (not Acid Piper as per Event Programme)
    Greyfriar's Julie
    Lads of Kilmarnock
The night we had the goats
    Smelling fresh
    The Bollywood lounge
    Nameless
    The high drive jig
    Bronnies blue brozzie
The full results are available at: rspba.org/resu....
It was great to be back at a full scale RSPBA championship competition again.
Field Marshal Montgomery Pipe Band is led by Pipe Major Richard Parkes MBE and the Drum Sergeant is Keith Orr.
Both piping judges placed Field Marshal Montgomery in first place and the band took second place overall.
The competition was run by The Royal Scottish Pipe Band Association in conjunction with Inverclyde Council as part of its Meliora Festival.

Thanks to Dronechorus for the recording. Good to see the bands competing again.
But doesn't just quite capture the drones. I can however hear that the sound and band sound is still great.
    Thank You.

A great drumming run . Nice to hear the bass coming through so well , although the tenors were a bit too dominant . I hope it is not a case of , we will sink the drum corps this year again .
Sometimes I wonder just what the drumming adjudicators really want , may they should do post competition interviews .
I felt the pipes lost a bit of their sound towards the latter half of set . Slight loss of piping unison @ 5.06 to 5.07 . From here on I got the impression that everything was a bit rushed .
Just my humble opinion , please do not send out the cavalry .

Tenors should always be dominant! (I say as a former tenor player). Love that FMM actually uses their tenors.

Chris. No way in hell that's 5th for Drumming. Should have been first, maybe second at worst for Ensemble.i heard a bit of separation in the last tune prior to the Air where the drummers join in gradually. A bit behind at times. They are still in a different league.

4th piper in from the left, closest side to the camera, in the air - look at him struggling with his bag. Don't often see that from FMM. Ever. The tune right before the air, with the C strikes, can't tell why from the recording - fingering or muffled sound on the recording- but not the usual Field Marshall blistering clarity in that one part.

If these are Irish folks, why wearing Scottish gear and Scottish pipes? Why not wear Irish gear and play Irish pipes? Or is the championship just about being Scottish or wishing you are scottish? 👍

People all over the world play the Great Highland Pipes and wear kilts while doing so. You don't need to be from Scotland. This band, while while based in Northern Ireland, is comprised of people from several different countries.
