In German calling a woman "Miss" when they're over a certain age is actually insulting (like "why aren't you married yet") and I remember that they passed a law that such a woman could insist on being called Frau ("Mrs") rather than Fräulein = "Miss." It may be the same in Flemish and Dutch which are Germanic languages. So calling her "Mrs." may be a sign of respect.
