You should really stop using handyman as an Insult. I know who your referencing, although alot of us do our own repairs and do our best to do the research and do it right. That's why it's nice to have content creators like you on TH-cam. No right minded person would have installed that sink that way. You know what, I would put alot of money on that person being a government contractor or something along those lines. You said it yourself you can unclog your own pipes most of the times. So why Insult the people who have no problem doing it themselves. Myself and others are capabale of saying that's out of my skill set and then call a professional. It's just like a car "technician" fancy word for dude who is entitled and feels he can do every job better then the average car guy. No I'm not paying you 600 dollars to install a starter 🤣 the professional people are so funny sometimes rest assured you paid me hundreds of dollars an hour the job was done right pffft no it almost never is. Obviously plumbing wise you know what your doing. Although most do not, if you can learn to do something right on your own do it makes you a better man.

    • @jlj2169

I’m an industrial electricain. It is a 6 figure a year job. We have had openings for 3 years because we can not find qualified people to fill them. Most of the college grads I work with make half as much money as I do, then they come pay me to do work at their house because they don’t have a clue where to even start. I’m glad I’m in the trades.
On top of that, stress isn’t a thing at my job. I go to work, do my job, then go home. I don’t worry about reports or presentations. I don’t have to fill out excel spreadsheets that no one cares about. I haven’t had one stressful day since I started in the trades. I used to have an office job, I was a division manager at a large company. It was nothing but stress. Another perk of being in a trade.

There's a very good reason why the glass/clear piping is used. It is incredibly useful to be able to keep an eye on the fluids and such being suctioned off during surgery. Colour, texture, volume all important. Imagine an abdominal surgery where surgeons are working on the liver and somehow, unbeknownst to them, they nicked the gallbladder and you have a nice, diligent assistant constantly suctioning the blood and fluids in the cavity so nobody sees the bile right away. The moment staff see an unexpected colour in the tubing/reservoir, they know something is wrong.
      Clear tubing can save lives.

There’s a beach club by me that has glass pipes at the ends of their beer taps. I’m pretty sure it’s just the ends, like 7 inches of glass pipe from the spout to the pint glass for sanitation reasons.

In engineering, one of the best rules is that you shouldn't hope to fix something, you should prevent it breaking in the first place. And indoor plumbing does exactly that. Rather than going to the hospital with diseases contracted from infected water, plumbers allow us to just not contract anything to start with. Obviously there are more ways to contract disease that plumbers cant really help with, but clean drinking water and removal of waste is the first required step for a healthy society

the 1st had that at my home when i was kid saw the plumber (uncle he specializes in skyscrapers) try pull it out, the roots destroyed the piped for about 9m/30feet long and it wasnt able to be pulled out so we replaced the whole pipe. the pipe literally had holes in it from the roots trying to tunnel their way out of it.

At work doing measure downs on manholes at the cancer ward. Opened the wrong hole and found another cover about 2 foot down, opened that. There was white walls a glass pipe coming in 3/4 of the way down and a black liquid in the bottom. It was some kind of acid ceramic walls and a black glass pipe. Used to dispose of body parts full of cancer...

I can see why glass piping was used for that tbh, chemo is some strong stuff.

I dont know I could argue my previous employment also saves the modern society from disease. I worked at a water treatment facility that turned waste water of both sewage and rain water into potable water.

3:45 so, what is it with faucets that swing out over the edge of the sink? If you turn it on, it floods the kitchen. I have even seen this problem in public restrooms. Once one got flooded because some idiot left the tap on while it was hanging next to the sink.

glass pipe is a misnomer, he is making vacuum tubes, and from the size, I would expect nixie tubes specifically, you cut them from the inside so that they don't shatter

the glass pipe was probably for running chemicals in a lab if I had to guess but I don't know for sure. certain acids can eat copper and organic solvents eat plastics so if you had a suspicion that both would be put in the pipes it could be a good choice.

I had a service call where the customer dropped his dentures in the toilet and they got flushed down. I lifted the toilet and found half of the dentures barely clinging to the toilet flange, and the other half was in the house trap. He didn't want to spend $1500 on new teeth he said, so he called us. I would have bought new teeth.
