The one thing I wish they would’ve talked about was speculating about Lukas’s new record by leading the playoffs in points, rebounds, and assists plus steals and three-point shots made. Considering the make up of the two teams it’s very possible he could break Joker’s unbelievable record for the finals and set a new NBA record for the entire playoffs. Obviously not as important as who wins, but win or not it’s an awfully nice consolation prize if you set an NBA record that could last for decades.
In the playoffs, the Mavs’ defense has significantly limited 3 of the top 6 3-point shooting teams. OKC (tops in the league) went from 38.9% to 33.5% against Dallas. Combine that with the fact that both Lively and Gafford get double the number of paint touches as anyone on the Celtics, and at a very high percentage……. Mavs have options. Boston can only pray their 3 ball goes down better than their season average.

Boston has not faced a team that can close out like these Mavs. The formula has been the same for every team the Mavs have faced. Teams have to shoot lights out from 3 to win. I think DJJ, THJ, Hardy, Kleber, Green, and PJ Washington are going to struggle and not have the same effect vs Boston as they did in the previous series. Chances are it will be Luka on holiday, Kyrie on White, Washington on Tatum, and Jones on Brown. Size and quickness dictates those are the most likely matchups although Luka could wind up switching with Kyrie but I highly doubt they’re going to put Washington on the quicker Brown and the smaller Jones on Tatum. I think Legler nailed it and that there will be a rotating set of defenders on Luka because the ones who are going to have the most success against him are also the ones Boston needs the most on offense and can’t afford to get anyone in foul trouble .

Kyrie will be anywhere between 25 and 30 points depending on how hot he is but in their offensive scheme he’s going to get enough shots to be there. I wouldn’t be at all surprised if White or Holiday out scored Jones and Washington on any given night but they’re not both going to outscore both Mavericks players because there aren’t enough shots to go around if Tatum and Brown are going for 25 to 30. The Center position is a clear advantage to the Mavericks, even if KP is back. when he was healthy and rolling the guy was 20/7 and the Mavericks are significantly better than that. The bench scoring will most likely be a wash now the Kleber is back, but Boston has an advantage on just pure shooting talent from three.

With all due respect, the mistake Tim is making here is taking too much stock on how the Mavericks played these other teams and not how they match up with the Celtics. Everyone was high on the Wolves after they beat Denver and look what happened. Watch the tape from the march 1st game and remember Boston has the better starting line up and by the numbers was historically great. Celtics in 5 sounds right.
The March 1 matchup was bad for Dallas I agree, but the Mavs true form didn’t start until March 7. They lost 5 of six in the run up to March 7 and looked horrible and had the worst defense in the NBA for that stretch. It’s misleading to take their form during that stretch as anything but an anomaly because after that they’ve had the best defense in basketball and the two best closers, not to mention the best player overall by an incredible margin.

Chances are it will be Luka on holiday, Kyrie on White, Washington on Tatum, and Jones on Brown. Size and quickness dictates those are the most likely matchups although Luka could wind up switching with Kyrie but I highly doubt they’re going to put Washington on the quicker Brown and the smaller Jones on Tatum.
I think Legler nailed it and that there will be a rotating set of defenders on Luka because the ones who are going to have the most success against him are also the ones Boston needs the most on offense and can’t afford to get anyone in foul trouble .

Kyrie will be anywhere between 25 and 30 points depending on how hot he is but in their offensive scheme he’s going to get enough shots to be there.
I wouldn’t be at all surprised if White or Holiday out scored Jones and Washington on any given night but they’re not both going to outscore both Mavericks players because there aren’t enough shots to go around if Tatum and Brown are going for 25 to 30. The Center position is a clear advantage to the Mavericks, even if KP is back. when he was healthy and rolling the guy was 20/7 and the Mavericks are significantly better than that. The bench scoring will most likely be a wash now the Kleber is back, but Boston has an advantage on just pure shooting talent from three.

With all due respect, the mistake Tim is making here is taking too much stock on how the Mavericks played these other teams and not how they match up with the Celtics. Everyone was high on the Wolves after they beat Denver and look what happened. Watch the tape from the march 1st game and remember Boston has the better starting line up and by the numbers was historically great. Celtics in 5 sounds right.
The March 1 matchup was bad for Dallas I agree, but the Mavs true form didn’t start until March 7. They lost 5 of six in the run up to March 7 and looked horrible and had the worst defense in the NBA for that stretch. It’s misleading to take their form during that stretch as anything but an anomaly because after that they’ve had the best defense in basketball and the two best closers, not to mention the best player overall by an incredible margin.
