I think the sagging in the back was likely not because the fabric shell was too big, but simply because the collar is curved downward which makes the distance from the bottom to the rim shorter (in a straight line) and then gravity takes hold of the fabric. I think the solution is to find a way to attach the back piece of fabric to the wire frame itself so it can hold it up. Just my thought!! Looks wonderful though!!!
Great video and fun to see the collar structure! I would love to see a full Sakizo breakdown. I really liked hearing you reflect on past sewing choices and getting a detailed close ups in this video! Keep up the good work
Thank you so much for this comment, when I was "researching" how to make Glinda's collar I kept coming back to my own collar and instead of spending time looking into Glinda's I thought it would be more beneficial to me to look back on something that is similar that I have already made and really ask myself what would I do better if I could. I'm glad I went about it this ways, I think sometimes the answer is right in front of us we just need to find it on our messy worktable lol
WOW that was an amazing tutorial I enjoyed it and felt really inspired. I also sewed something similar in 1992 for my daughters ballet costume Thank you so much
I now present: A lesson in Japanese: Sa - like socks (i say this part wrong all the time) ki- like Key, Zo, like a Z with how youd say "Oh" so like Zoh. Ive seen her spell it with and without the U at the end but Zo is one of the Japanese syllables, and then id assume that with the u on there youd say it like Sakizo-u Like you would say Pinku for pink in japanese. But you say them seperate like that because all Japanese words are mainly comprised of several two letter syllable groups. BUT she does spell her name in Kanji, which means I could be totally wrong, because Kanji are wild.
I literally started editing the intro and then I was like, I should have just watched Sarah's recent video and I would have known how to say it lol but sometimes my brain forgets which was the right way and which was the wrong, here's to hoping I can remember the right way.
@@CaseyReneeCosplay Im allways missing the Sa, My brain just shoots to Sak like Sack, I know how its suppose to sound but I never remember to do it lol
I love longer video like this for cosplay/costume making! I agree that the collar in the references doesn't look loose, but I think it looks uncomfortably tight in the references too! I would make it tighter if it feels better to wear though, will only know once you try it with the wig! Can't wait to see more~🥰
Yeah, I think I am going to try wearing the bodice with the wig and collar for a few hours one day to see and allow that to inform my decisions, luckily moving a snap takes 2 minutes so its SUCH an easy fix.
I would love a close look into how you made your Sakizou (sp?) outfit! On a completely unrelated note, what lipstick are you wearing in the reveal/outro? That color is fantastic!
Aww thank you! I am wearing Anastasia Beverly Hills Liquid Lip in Bohemian: www.amazon.com/Anastasia-Beverly-Hills-Lipstick-Bohemian/dp/B07BFCY78G/ref=sr_1_3?crid=1OVRQ7UF5LNEA&keywords=anastasia+beverly+hills+bohemian&qid=1678821845&sprefix=anastasia+beverly+hills+bohemian%2Caps%2C135&sr=8-3
Yeah, basically at this point if I keep being nit picky I will never finish the costume. I just need to get the costume wearable and be open to changes before I compete with it.
You pricked your finger on the first wire (gardener wire )you used. You switched wires, but what did you switch to? It looks like a thicker wire and I want the name of it so I can find it. I am making a high standup collar for a spencer jacket and I like your idea as to how to get the color stiff and tucking the organza inside the outer fabric.
The wire I used was just a jewelry wire, I'm pretty sure I just got it at JoAnn fabrics in the jewelry bead section. This was quite some time ago so I don't remember the brand or size
You did a good job. All you need is a wig, a crown and wand. I'm going to start making a blue diamond dress from the colors of Disneyland's 60th anniversary for me to wear on my 25th birthday next year.
I'm currently thinking up a structure, I'm thinking this will be a great video for May when I do my final photoshoot for her before boxing her up and retiring her forever.
I have a question: Did you make the strap entirely out of biastape? Because that has me worried that it might stretch with wear and thus loosing its function because it elongated.
It is, I can always move the snaps when the bias tape stretches. My other options were velvet and twill tape and both do not feel good if they rub against my skin so this was the best choice IMO. Also, on Broadway and in film/tv costumes get TONS of fixes and replacements as things are worn, it's okay to make adjustments while wearing something. There are wardrobe members on Broadway dedicated to replacing Glinda's sequins on the Bubble Dress so moving snaps is the least of my concerns.
The outfit looks great! Keep up the good work. Even though your blood sweat and tears went in to making it But it’s all worth it in the end. Like I always say hard work pays off my friend.
I really feel like the hard work will pay off, I don't think I feel it right now but I know once I am almost done it will start feeling worth while and that's going to be the best feeling.
That costume is amazing 😮! Idk anything about sakizou really but if the origin is Japanese then it’s most likely short a short i long o sounds for pronunciation
Haha I think your pronunciation during the vid with the long o was great tho! But yea it’s hard to remember lol. Really loved the video. Your work is super impressive 💕
Not the bandaid showing up after the third wire clover! May your sacrifice please the Cosplay Gods. I love seeing your process... always got to trust our gut! Better to tweak now rather than let it nag in the back of your mind for weeks. Full support!

Ooo that's a great idea! I'll try that when I remake the collar for competition! I really appreciate the tips

ou actually just draws out the o sounds slightly where itd be zoooh rather than just zoh. hence why in romaji ou is often just written as o or ō

had therapy so i forgot to say the final product looks good. a good place to start for the improvements you laid out for the future.

Ok but how do you figure out the base curve of ur neck?
