yes, i am here again with another edit for this drama but it's a little different from the usual, clearly. i think it's a running joke in the fandom how these two stare with a tension for an unusually long amount of time and i simply think it's what gives this drama its piquancy. so here is my tribute to that!

You can see Juwon's scrutinizing gaze turning into surprised and questioning ones in the first few episodes. Then as the show progresses, his stoic facade starts wavering, melting into adoration and trust, him baring his scars to Dongsik. Towards the end, it has morphed into something indescribable, which can only be interpreted as love. Hats off to the actors, they pulled this off impeccably.
Even juwon cries when arresting dongsik, puts his forehead in his hands and cries. You can see for a few seconds how dongsik almost cries

In fact, this is the main axis of the whole story - as if they look at each other for the entire sixteen episodes, gradually changing their gaze. Throughout the whole story, they were looking for something desperately needed in each other. And in the end, they found it.

The gradual changing of the looks from anger and distrust to respect and understanding was a treat to watch. Their chemistry was mind-blowing. Throughout the show I was like, " Is this romance, is that what it is?"

This is some of the deepest chemistry between two characters I've ever seen in any piece of media. They were both such troubled people and there's so much unsaid between the lines between these two. They both found a love that they've never found anywhere else in their life, even from family, and I fully believe that they continue on to become partners after the show's story.
This series is a sheer masterpiece. The actors have given a masterpiece acting. Even with no dialogue just their expressions spoke volumes....it's been ages since I ve seen such a good series...

When I was watching this drama, I always thought the way their eyes spoke to each other was the loudest conversation they could have..the gazes they shared had a whole lot of range - distrust, sad, pity, anger, desparation, caring, admiring, trust, longing and finally .. Love..

Their chemistry is just wow! Not a single drama with heavy romance could come close to their intense feelings! Its eye fucking people! But also the way their characters are drawn to each other is so poetic and is full of pathos! ❤

I'd also like to point out how often dongsik looks genuinely concerned, especially in later part of the drama, like "am I bending this boy too much? is he actually going to break?". sure he wanted to put juwon in his place and teach this snooty kid some lessons, but as soon as juwon started falling apart dongsik backed off. in a different show, with worse writing and less soul, juwon, who literally lost his mind for a moment after learning the truth about his father, would be mocked and scolded for being too naive or too sensitive. but instead dongsik only asked him if he's okay and took him out for hearty lunch. it's just one of the endless list of things that make fall in love with the drama over and over again

The reason their chemistry is so powerful is because they are complex humans.
They are not your token best friend character or the rival who sometimes helps you out because they are for you.
Both of them are the predator and the prey.
Both of them suspect each other and worry for each other.
There is an age gap and not the typical 'I will learn for you because you're older than I am' relationship.
Both of them have their own beliefs they strongly believe in.
They are partners but they are also each other's biggest enemies.
The banters they share half the time have heavy undertone while the other half it feels like the quarrel of a newly married couple.
The reason we love them together so much is because of how beautiful their portrayal is, in all aspects, technical and emotional. The direction of the series to the emotions conveyed by the smallest gestures made by the actors.
These are not just one dimensional characters written for the sake of gathering an audience. These are humans living their lives and surviving even when the world goes to hell.

The drama is wonderful, and I consider it a masterpiece that will not be repeated. I was literally in love with this couple. Their looks explain everything, all the feelings and sensations, until they turned into pure love. The last look was in my heart. Their looks weave pure, wonderful love.

The way they look at eachother is everything. I mean the tension that writer has created between these two characters is something that deserves to praised. One of the best crime mysteries I've ever watched.

GREAT SHOW, GREAT OST I WATCHED IT FOR YEO JINGOO BUT FELL IN LOVE WITH SHIN HAKYUN. THE CHEMISTRY BETWEEN THESE TWO WAS SURREAL. IT'S EVEN CUTER WHEN YOU REALISE THAT JINGOO WAS REUNITED WITH HAKYUN, 16 YEARS AFTER PLAYING A YOUNG SHIN HAKYUN IN A MOVIE WHEN HE WAS 9. SERIOUSLY, THE LAST SCENE WAS SO SO TOUCHING. ABSOLUTELY LOVED THESE TWO. AT TIMES THEY SEEMED LIKE FATHER AND SON, AT OTHER TIMES THEY LOOKED LIKE RIVALS AND OTHER TIMES YOU'D THINK THEY'D MAKE A GREAT COUPLE😭🥺 SERIOUSLY THEIR BOND IS SO UNIQUE TO K-DRAMA, JUST LIKE THE CHARACTERS AND PLOT.

at the end he looked at him with so much understanding, and love? dong sik really changed him, not only in the way how he was perceiving him but also as a person, i think he helped him to ruin that wall between juwon and people around him, he made him realize so so many things about real human nature, about love, about support, about bond and loss, i really think dongsik helped him to get rid of the fear to be just a human with his feelings, to trust people and to accept the fact that he's not alone
on the other hand i think juwon also helped dongsik, he stayed around no matter what yeah he was so sceptical and wanted to know the truth but i think farther he was moved by his desire to actually find out what a person dongsik is, what's his story. then he tried to help him with all the possible methods. i think they both found salvation into each other, i consider their story a a strong love bond, there's no sweetness and no cliche, only raw feelings and story they share together, i think this is something you can call love

I don't see nay underlying romance between the actors and the series doesn't even give any hint about it, I think it's as just daddy issues..
yeah , finally someone said this. everbody saying they are romantically connected just because they have chemistry but it’s not it. juwon has daddy issues his father wasn’t affectionate towards him. juwon found an trustworthy person. dongsik gave his shoes to young boy in the rain. juwon saw it. juwon and donhgsik both had family issues, but dongsiks case was very painful. but he is wise man. (rip my english)
i literally don't understand how you can see a father figure-son relationship between them, yes juwon has daddy issues but he clearly never treated dongsik slightly like a father or smth. no one claims they have romantic relationship but saying that this boy saw dongsik, a possible-at-first murderer, in a father role? it doesn't make sense to me.
the scene with shoes??? c'mon, it was more of a reality crash that dongsik can be actually a normal sane person and juwon saw him in another light. putting all the romantic theory aside, i would say that their traumatized asses couldn't be connected as a family member, they both had enough trauma to play father-son game. i defend them from all this cliche father son relationship because people would falsely perceive them as another gay dudes because of other ppl saying they can see a romantic vibe etc, but they have a real complex human relationship and story that's going beyond any roles. yeah they're not lovers but they aren't family members, they aren't friends and they' aren't enemies
and also despite juwon having such a shitty father, he tried to understand him as he is, until that man literally said he can kill his own son if there's a need, I don't think throughout the whole series juwon expected to hear that (the way he was heartbroken in that scene is no joke to me personally)
