the guys working on the Flash should've honestly just looked at A-Train from the Boys.. their perception and visualization of speed is very well done imo. You can clearly see that A-Train is actually moving his body parts at high speeds instead of gliding across the floor. But you managed to capture that same logic quite well!
It's not that they don't know how or what it looks likes for other ways. They can. It's just that the one we have is the decided creative choice. The artist are just told what to do based on the creative choices of whomever was the decision maker.
I think yours should be leaning forward more. Also my biggest issue with the original isn't the cgi but the color grading. It's waaaaaaay too orange. If that was fixed this could be 100x better
came to write this. lean forward, improve hands. 3d model sucks, rigging is unnatural, grading is "welcome to Mexico" cliche. its not better now just a different level of weird. end result misses grading and editing and implementation and blur and distance fog and airstreams etc
Not trying to disrespect, but the running still looks a bit weird. The aesthetic to go for in this scene is hard to visualize 'coz we're just not used to seeing people run that fast in real life. I'd prolly go for same overall shape/angle that the movie used where he is leaning forward 'coz that's how the flash looks like in the comics anyway. Combine that with how you did the legs. But minimize the bobbing/flickering of the upper body. That was what looked the most weird to me. That said, how you adjusted the look of the model and composited it with the movie scene is nothing short of spectacular. I followed a lot of your Davinci tutorials. I don't know how to use Blender but if you start making tutorials, I'd love to learn from you.
EXACTLY what i said. Flash's back always leans forward while he runs, and the running animation he used the back is way too straight and looks weird, but i see what he was going for tho. i wish the movie had his legs and arms moving fast like that
He started with a bad model. The fact that he grabbed everything from existing sources is a lot like the problem with game devs borrowing code and assets. He justifies it because he has to get it done in a week, but that's usually the excuse for these kinds of moves is "time saving" and not "quality" or "integrity". But I digress. The issue is the original model looks nothing like Ezra Miller's actual body, so you start with a bad beginning point where the proportions are just weird, and doubly so when compared to the original. Let me be clear. This guy has a ton of understanding of things that I have only a generic idea of how to do and he may be very good at his craft, but lots of corners were cut here.
4:35 AI is a super useful tool and it helps a lot and I don't get why people are mad. Plus it's so cool seeing what AI makes and it's fun too! Plus AI can remove things from images and expand the image and it's super useful!
Looks really good, but as a runner myself, I feel like he should be leaned a little bit more forward, allowing him to go a little higher with his knees.
While I agree that The Flash running form in this scene could look more convincing, I've seen people use that Mixamo animation before and it just never worked for the character, it simply has no superheroic vibe to it, and when sped up like it is in your version, it kinda gives off goofy Sheldon Cooper as The Flash vibe, like yeah, it's normal human run animation, but it's too plain-looking. Maybe more motion blur for the legs and arms would make it closer to CW The Flash early seasons running look, also whole body leaning more forward as it usually does in the comics (recommend looking up Crimsoned Renz, he accurately recreated CW's running style for his 3D animations). But I also get your time constraints with this one, all the compositing work looks flawless
I honestly love how you don’t have the pro version of things, it really makes these videos feel even more down to earth and realistic! I’ve been editing for years, but I can afford to pay $90+ a month on subscriptions either lol
Honestly, looks really good. The running animation does very janky but since you were short on time due to circumstances, i'm very impressed by it. Good job👍
Ezra's running being described as a person trying to figure out how their limbs work is a very appropriate description of The Flash running in the movie.
Cheap shot at classic hard work ain't gonna cut it, since you're that good please, create your own movie let's see how great your creativity really is.😊
The best example of this type of thing I've ever seen is, surprisingly, from the flash show. There are a couple bits in the early seasons where he's running on a treadmill in real time and it looks pretty good
By fixing the run cycle it’s not very obvious that it’s a model. Taking away the huge distraction helps our brain suspend our disbelief. A few bits with the arms look a bit janky but I wanna be clear I’m not complaining. You did an excellent job for one week by yourself.
Great job man. Lots of comments saying it looks off, but honestly I'd take your version of it over the movie's anytime, coz even though I don't really know what it would look like for someone running at that insane speed, yours is still closer to what I expect to see more than that goofy running the movies do. That running is so incredibly worse than this in my opinion, leaning forward or not. It's a real-life adaptation so the run cycle you used is closer to a real person running at speed than what the comic characters look like, which is better imo. Not perfect, but so so much better than the movie's. I think an animation of a sprint runner would look a little better? Idk, but great work.
I think there should've been more motion blurr, especially for the legs. Other than that, this is fantastic. I think you would've done a better job on this movie than the actual artists themselves
This looks really good. The only thing I would change is, I think flash should lean into the run a bit more. A lot of times when people are running, they’ll kind of lean forward to reduce wind resistance
It's really encouraging to see how these relatively small tweaks can transform the experience. But the term "fix" might be a bit inappropriate. I agree, the original running style looks super goofy, but it was a creative choice, not a failure in execution. I understand "fix" probably feeds the online algorithm well, but even just saying "remade" would be more respectful of the original creators choices. Just something to consider. All the same, good on you for putting your creative choices out there for audiences and studios alike to be inspired by.
As a track and cross country runner of old the way Ezra runs is so dumb and the words I want to say I can’t say anymore. I would have excepted this version. Great work.
the running looks weirder on land lmao BUT it's PERFECT for the running on water. The movie forgot how much more friction water has compared to air and on solid surface, like I think they shouldn't make him just glide like that, just the fact that... it's water, you don't have much surface to launch and glide like that. The goofy pedaling movements made it WAY more believable.
I kind of like the way he run in the movie, because if he is runing like that I feel is more a time stop and he is running at "normal speed" in stoped time and just fastsorward the results than super speed Great video btw loved your modok one and hope that you do more
Definitely an improvement despite what all the other people are saying. It was a rush job, looks amazing keeping that in mind. I watched The Flash tv show and some of their scenes looked worse. I appreciate the effort too since it actually is how the character works. Like with the water in the movie’s version I feel is physically unrealistically motivated, yet this version makes the water’s I guess reaction to the flash running on it makes sense
The vfx in the movie wasn't the best but this specific part that people like to nitpick and complain about is simply just the animation which was an artistic choice...
I'm so sorry for the disrespect the moment is started running I bursted out laughing 🤣🤣 And the moment you criticize at 0:08 it's intended for laughs, like..-*wooosh* the joke flew past so many people I guess.
Great video, of course. But for someone complaining about the running animation, it surprised me that you didn't spend more time on your running animation.
Considering how all the odds were against this movie Andy Muschietti was still able to do a decent job on his own At least he made this movie fun and exciting I do hope he gets to direct BRAVE AND THE BOLD because I loved his approach on Batman
For me personally, this is a much better improvement versus the actual film. However (this isn't really your fault) but i hate how they drag the camera before he starts moving. If they had just zoomed and then showed him dart off itd be a alot better imo. As for your animation, it does look kinda uncanny up close but for the water shots its PERFECT. Great job!
I prefer the original movie version. He seems to be reaching through the air pushing the speed force forward. Yours just looks like a weird speed-up cartoon.
The original is horrible. It looks nothing like running is supposed to look like. It (they?) might as well be twerking through the "speedforce". That honestly fits better to the cast and character choices.
Kudos to the hard work you put in it, but it looks more weird. Looks like he is running holding his poop. Maybe if he was bended ahead a bit might looked cool.
You got the legs a lot better but the upper body could have used some love. Good attempt though 🙂 my favorite example of high speed is honestly Dash from The Incredibles. That’s the most natural high speed running I’ve ever seen!
nah, if u are running at 50000km/h the film version is better. Look at Olympic racers, they are most of the time in air, every step move them like 2.5 meters. Imagine FLASH, bro is taking 1km per step.
This video is a waste of time. The running animation is what you wanted to replace but you spent 99% of the video working on creating the model and compositing it into the scene. And just lazily grabbing a terrible premade animation and using that without even modifying it. Come on man.
On a run cycle the pelvis should move slightly up and down. Yours seems to be completely locked on the same position, it looks a bit off just for that reason
Yeah sorry... The only thing about this one that really looks better than the original is that his legs are actually moving quickly. But credit where it's due, the comp stuff was all pretty creative and well done
People who are saying the model should be leaning forward or whateva, it's not him that animated it. It was an animation sample from the mixamo website so it's not a big deal! What y'all need to concentrate at...is the speed he's going which matches with the scene and that's what impressed me. That's a LIKE! 👍
the only run ezra did so flawlessly and as flash as it can be was that scene in Justice League where he ran on the tunnel to power the motherbox, it was a quick 3 second shot of the exchange between his left and right leg, camera on his side. his leg positioned so perfectly, and doesn't look like gliding.
Not trying to disrespect, but ITS STILL LOOKS GOOFY
Lmfaoooo yesss but it's understandable cos he's just one person lol
Its because of the running animation. It doesnt really fit here.
true, but he did a pretty god work
Yeaahhh agreed, if anything i somehow find it goofier than the original 😢
It's million times better than the original, which was created by hundreds of very high salary artists with millions of dollars of equipment.
the guys working on the Flash should've honestly just looked at A-Train from the Boys.. their perception and visualization of speed is very well done imo. You can clearly see that A-Train is actually moving his body parts at high speeds instead of gliding across the floor. But you managed to capture that same logic quite well!
For me Ezra’s Flash in ZSJL was better, also Makari in Eternals has a better visualization of speed
There is also eternals to look at
flash isnt moving the speed force does
It's not that they don't know how or what it looks likes for other ways. They can. It's just that the one we have is the decided creative choice. The artist are just told what to do based on the creative choices of whomever was the decision maker.
@Les3srcm I was just about to point out Makari from Eternals
That mugshot joke earned you a like 😂😂😂
The moment I saw the mugshot I knew what I had to do
Agreed. *chef's kiss*
I did the same 😂😂😂
I think yours should be leaning forward more. Also my biggest issue with the original isn't the cgi but the color grading. It's waaaaaaay too orange. If that was fixed this could be 100x better

he should use references of athletes running instead, I'm pretty sure that's what they did for the Boys
Its weird how the flash show actually got his running to not look awful but such a major budget for a film and they make it look so jarring
Eternals did it beat tbvh

This is really good. Only that The Flash doesn’t run straight, he runs in a slant motion to cut into air in run of him.
The running animation you picked looks goofy, but I like that it gives him more weight instead of sliding.

😂😂 that mugshot moment 😂
I had to pause for a minute after that, genuinely hilarious
Since The Flash movie came out, I've been waiting for a video like this to appear, thank you.
Good luck on your finals
No offence but you didn't fix it. It looked like flash was limping. Anyways you did try at a limited time hats off to that.
The water scene looks so good, though
No it looks like he is running, as opposed to that weird mating dance the original was trying to do.
@@mrb2349 The inspiration are rollers, thats why he moves like a roller and not like a 100m runner, cause he goes THAT fast, like a roller
