“Absolutely Dreadful” | Energy Bills Set To Jump By 9% This Winter

- The average household energy bill is set to rise by 9% in October when the latest change to the price cap takes effect, according to experts.
Energy consultancy Cornwall Insight said it expects the typical household’s energy bill to rise to £1,714 a year, up from £1,568 currently, on October 1.
Consumer expert Adrian Mills joins Talk’s Jeremy Kyle to discuss this further.

Asylum seekers, paid by government support. The refugees, Ukraine & Afghanistan claim benefits. All these media ho ha doesn't add up

At this point they can cut the gas and electricity off completely. I'll shower at the gym, heat up a ready meal at work and get a battery light to read in bed with. These bills are killing me.
Me too. I'm in debt over £1000 . I sit in the dark never put on heating only to run a bath. I don't do food shopping anymore I just buy bits and pieces. I'm 61 not being dramatic but I think this winter will either make me ill or kill me. And all because of greed
Problem is your bill will still be sky high because of the standing charge scam, barely even used gas this month, as I shower at the gym, no heating on so the occasional time you turn the hot tap on, and my bill for gas was £30, 90%+ of it the standing charge!

That's paying the debt racked up when suppliers went bust.
Yes in remote parts of Scotland where we have no mains Gas we pay the highest standing charges in the whole UK yet we supply more windpower & hydro Electricity than the whole UK which we are supposed to send to wealthy parts of UK with much lower standing charges.
Funny how bills soar just before Winter. Greed, Greed, Greed and Starmer is rubbing his hands with gleee thanks to the huge tax revenues it creates. Sod the pensioners freezing to Death.

My nan suffered growing up in dire poverty and ended her days worrying about paying her bills😢 My dad gave her money every week but she put it in an envelope in her dining dresser. We were all dismayed that she never spent it after she'd died and I found it clearing her flat out😮 I remember her telling me that unless you've had nothing it's impossible to imagine the hardship. She never claimed anything, and probably felt embarrassed by my dads help. There are millions of old people like my nan, whose brothers went to fight in WW2 who never came home or came back broken. People who struggled through the ration years, bringing up their families when there weren't such things as child allowance, tax credits etc..these same old people are probably all gone now but their children now pensioners themselves are struggling again. They may live in the family house which is too big now but can't afford to move plus they don't build bungalows anymore or housing specifically for the elderly.
Less payment, less pension, less poor white people and more free housing? Stamers wet dream.

And with the dumb idiots in charge not letting us get it from under us anymore, that means we get it from abroad who can rip us off!! Maybe use local instead, but then we can't scam our green credentials and offset our carbon usage to other countries by making them mine it for us.

Help your mum fill out the pension credit form. I did this for my mum, and it opens up more help, free tv license, l, help with water bill and council tax reduction.
One of the only good comments on her. If people need help it's there if they don't why should they get payment towards fuel?

So bills going up showing the lies that renewable energy isn’t cheap or even slightly reliable, bring back coal and gas powered power production and cheap energy.
Or use nuclear which is actually safe, clean and one plant can produce more energy than hundreds of these other "green initiatives" solar panels and windmills combined.
It has been demonised, but the reality is it is actually one of the best sources of energy to serve a country, it's also cheap!

That's why I have two different sizes of socks...in winter I wear two pairs, one of each size. Yeah! OAPs know things. Pro tip - your feet are slightly smaller in the winter, making room in the shoe for the extra sock. Next week we will discuss underpants! Not mine though...
When you have fibromyalgia ,it doesn't matter how many layers of clothing you wear , as the cold air goes right through your body , and the pain is horrendous .
@@sunshine-qk8qeI've suffered from raynauds since I was born. My feet are never warm and even on a cool day in summer, 15 degrees, I've got my jumper on and thick socks. Winter is a nightmare for me and many others. My arthritis is affected by the heat but worse in winter. My heating will have to remain on as I can't move if it's freezing in the house. I fixed my energy bills with Octopus last month so hopefully I can budget better. Bet the dingy divers don't have to worry about getting a chill this year. Our Gov't, past and present don't care a flying fig about any of it's citizens unless they came across on a rubber boat😮
And if you can cut your usage the standing charge will go up

My terrace home is extremely cold. I have done as much as I can, within the limits of my pension, to increase the efficiency of the heating system and I have added more insulation. However, in winter, I still have to wear 4 layers, including woollen sweaters. I go to bed early so that I can turn the heating down. I am absolutely dreading this next winter.
I would encourage everyone to stock up on firewood - fuck the climate we should all have fires going - see what they say then.

Imagine we had 3 decades worth of shale gas just under our feet , all that cheap energy - but no , it’s much better and more expensive to import it !!

The big question is why? There is no oil shortage, and all energy prices are linked to the oil price. The energy companies are taking prices to the limit of the cap, and why wouldn't they? After all, its all about profit and dividends to shareholders right ? Any investment, or losses must be born by the customers right ? The investors can never pay out or loose out right ? Its disgusting; the energy companies should be held to a fixed profit %, and if they don't like it they can get out of the business - right ?

We have never been on any pension credit always worked, 89 years paying the NiC contributions between us, and the government today are still screwing us.
You pay for green energy twice! Anyone who doesn’t understand that, just do a tiny bit of research on why we have to run gas power plants constantly in the background.
Nobody has really explained to me WHY the price cap is being raised. Is it because the price of wholesale oil/gas "might" go up in the coming months? And why do all utility companies feel they have to charge the maximum they are allowed? When privatisation was brought in we were told that prices would be go down because the companies would be competing for your business. That's turned out to be total carp(anag.) hasn't it.
Isn't it a fact that they despise pensioners because they see them as Tory voters? And the pension credit argument doesn't wash because a large proportion of people who receive pension credit actually get more than those whose sole income is the state pension.

As long as the power company profits don't increase by 9% if they do they are taxed at twice the increase.
My energy company tells me my bill will go up by £200 in October, add that to the removal of the winter fuel allowance and i am down £500, thank you labour, AND i didnt know about the rise in January !
