Such a rich and diverse instrument capable of many styles and nuances. It's like having a whole drum kit in one hand drum. . . Love it. . . I like how at the end you do a full on rock style pattern too. Thanks for the inspiration Negar. Blessings. . .

Incroyable ,merci pour ces beaux partages, en plus n’égara ezazi est d’une beauté féerique,ce qui n’enlève rien à toute sa technique et le travail qu’elle a dû fournir pour arriver à ce niveau ,bravo et respect ,,

my grandma brought me a daf from iran years ago but i never had a chance to sit down and learn how to play it... nothing like pandemic-induced self-isolation to learn something new! 😂
wow nice its beautiful drum just take your time even a simple rythm repeatng has a huge effect on your body and emotions if you allow yourself to let go
I'm not sure why notation would be needed? She plays each pattern clearly - the Arabic prayers are the basis. So follow them, and then the variations she plays. The rhythms are difficult if you listen to how the instrument is used by Sufis for zhikr. Since the daf is played everywhere now, there are many new ways of playing - and new techniques. I'm from the US, but my percussion teacher taught most Arab and Persian rhythms by ear. That is the traditional way. The use of staff notation is quite recent, and it can be difficult to show how the patterns relate to daily life and the rhythms of speech.
This video was made with the intention of an overall introduction to Daf. An instructional video is in the process of completion and should be available in the near future.
This is awesome. Thank you for sharing! Is that a one-time thing or is there perhaps an “introduction to tombak” or something along those lines planned as well?
My right hand thumb tends to slide up along the frame as I play. Is it only lack of practice or is there any tip to solve it? Thanks for the video, it's great!
Is this an expensive instrument that the player plays here? I can buy a daf with synthetic membrane in my country for around 1OO dollars, but I am not sure if it would be considered a terrible quality. Do professionals play synthetic membranes?
There are two types of daf instrument, one is made of natural animal skin and the other is made of another material you can play both types of daf but the one that made of skin have more bass

Thanks for your amazing video. Is it possible to add the relevant music note? It will be very useful for Daf learners.

Amazing educational clip for Daf! Best compilation of major rhythms. At 5:19 it is a 12/8 not a 10/8! right?!
..nooo! It's definitely in 10/8! Maybe try to listen more carefully😉
Thank you! amazing player and very helpful :) I wish you could share also the notes that go with it. I for one would be happy to purchase that.
