It's all very well saying that Remembrance Sunday is about remembering those who paid the ultimate price for our country and that we should keep politics out of it. A short while ago I would have been firmly in that camp but the paradigm has changed. This Government has been in power for nearly 3 months and already the sheer arrogance of the PM and his "do as I say and not as I do" is staggering; a particular "beef" of mine is the removal of charitable status from Private Schools. If you stop and think, this potentially has a massive impact on Servicemen. As a comment on the Government this is massive - it's not necessarily the PM who needs to see it - it will be shown to millions around the world, and I have to say, reluctantly, I am all for it.

As a child I remember both my grandfathers, one having lost the use of a leg from standing in the water at Dunkirk for so long, and the other had a hand shot off after a long and gruelling time in Burma. NEITHER of them EVER complained, in fact they used to make jokes to my brother and I when we asked silly questions about the war. What sheer bravery and thought for others. My father now in his 90’s told me that my grandfather who was in Burma sometimes used to go alone into a quiet room and cry where no one would know. We have governments that treat us with utter contempt, they are a disgrace.

All at Remembrance should be there with the prime focus to remember those who gave their lives and fought for our freedom. Simple as that. Keep political disagreements away from the event. Along with years of stagnent wages and massive cost of living increases, it appears that they know exactly what they are doing. Unfortunately, our leaders in Ireland have done the same over here, and from what i have researched, this is happening all over Europe, in every country.

I for one would applaud you for taking a public stand against this government especially Starmer, I have never suffered a war or served in the forces, but I worked in community care for 34 years, and saw first hand how many pensioners suffered during the winter, I am now a pensioner myself, and in the same boat they were in, I have lost my winter fuel payment, as I get over the limit for pension credit, so I get nothing, add to that my pension is now taxed, I am worse off all round, I understand what you are saying about it being disrespectful on the day, but this man Starmer is a corrupt dictator, and I respect what you do on the day, you served your country and I thank you for your service, our armed forces are the best in the world!

It's all very well saying that Remembrance Sunday is about remembering those who paid the ultimate price for our country and that we should keep politics out of it. A short while ago I would have been firmly in that camp but the paradigm has changed. This Government has been in power for nearly 3 months and already the sheer arrogance of the PM and his "do as I say and not as I do" is staggering; a particular "beef" of mine is the removal of charitable status from Private Schools. If you stop and think, this potentially has a massive impact on Servicemen. As a comment on the Government this is massive - it's not necessarily the PM who needs to see it - it will be shown to millions around the world, and I have to say, reluctantly, I am all for it.

They paid the ultimate price for freedom of thought and speech - something our current PM is trying to eradicate. He has no respect for their sacrifice. Shame on him for his misguided policies and the effect they are having on the elderly and vulnerable. I would turn my back if I were at the Cenotaph but would not disrespect the person next to me if they did not. They have also served their country and have the right to make their own choice. When those rights and freedoms have been eroded away to the point when you realise they are affecting you,, ask yourself what will you think and say then and did you do anything of value to stop the rot.

As a child I remember both my grandfathers, one having lost the use of a leg from standing in the water at Dunkirk for so long, and the other had a hand shot off after a long and gruelling time in Burma. NEITHER of them EVER complained, in fact they used to make jokes to my brother and I when we asked silly questions about the war. What sheer bravery and thought for others. My father now in his 90’s told me that my grandfather who was in Burma sometimes used to go alone into a quiet room and cry where no one would know.
We have governments that treat us with utter contempt, they are a disgrace.
