I would like to see you play with the angle from the scythe above the mantle. Move the horseman underthe higher side of the scythe (maybe raise it with a box under the creepy cloth to make it look like he's on a hill?) And put the book on the end by the handle end. Move the gate over a little and spread the tombstones between the horseman and the gate so it looks like he's riding down the hill and through the graveyard. I love the idea of the crows on the scythe too.

I thought the horseman should go under the higher part of the scythe, too. I really love the idea of seeing if she could play around with the idea of perspective and using the props in a way to create an optical illusion of the horseman being in the foreground and the gate prop being in the background and he is riding away from (or towards, depending on which way she places him) the graveyard.
I'm an over the top, maximalist decorator and it's so nice to see someone decorate and not use the words "minimal" or "small touches" lol We lost our house to a downed tree in January so this is the first year of my life I'm not decorating. I'm living vicariously through you! 🎃🖤

I feel I am also a maximalist!! I used to feel very guilty about this and I still struggle because it’s been so ingrained in me that I just must be lazy, a hoarder, and dirty. Which I am not but it’s hard to get that out of your psyche. Anyway I’m sorry about your house and I also love that she didn’t paint everything white or beige to be “aesthetic”
I have to admit, I'm pretty excited about the annual birthday cake video. I love that you've created this fun and cute tradition for yourself and with us fellow glamor ghouls. The scythe really is a cool and spooky statement piece.
I was hoping you were going to say crows were going on the scythe! Yay! This looks really fabulous. I love the book and the idea of dry brushing the pumpkins. I have a ton of carved pumpkins, but I kept them sweet and bright for when my kids were younger, it's time to switch it up.

I also think adding some laid flat books/even just flattish boxes wrapped in black paper to bolster a few of the decorations like you did with the trees so they don’t all just visually start at the same place (i.e. sitting on the mantle,) it might be nice, too. Could help you play with the vertical space even more🧡
My eyes wanted the Horseman to be off-center under the highest part of the scythe to fill in that wall space. I love the way the pumpkins that you dry brushed look awesome, and the crow idea would look really great as well. Excited to see how it evolves as you go.
Im not usually one for asymmetry and I generally struggle to picture things in my head but I read your comment and my whole brain lit up like "Yes!" And imagined it. Would maybe be neet if there was a prop undeneath to boost it up to the perfect height and help it stand out more?
Edit to add that maybe the prop could be worked in as the base for a the moon Midge mentioned? Supporting it, giving the houseman a step up, and providing a conviently hiding place for wires and any needed battery back. If shapes a bit it could look like the moon was almost clear of the horizon.

Love love love! I just got done frosting my not so little brothers birthday cake today and wish you a happy happy birthday as well!!! Idea- I have some 99 cent store ravens…and you can hot glue black feathers on them to look higher end and realistic instead of hunting down expensive ones. Love this mantle! It’s spooky and time period themed and I absolutely love it! It all pulls together so well. Great job! ♥️♥️♥️

The scythe gives harvest outdoor vibes. Decor should maybe be outdoor graveyard vibrant. Creepy grass creepy plants

Just sand your smooth pumpkins. It'll give the paint something to adhere to. Just sand in the direction you want the lines to go in. Fold your sand paper in half to make the grooves a little more defined as well.
Your mantle looks so wonderfully spooky! And I LOVE your outfit today - especially the spiderweb headscarf.
I think a little mini pumpkin patch under the horseman would look so cute🖤🪦

Agreed! But I also liked the gold skull. The pumpkin feels very spooky halloween to me and the skull more campy fun. I think it would be great in an entree way, on a drinks cart, buffet in the dinning room, or kitchen as a little faux butler/assistant with a little card or plaque either giving greating or instruction such as "please help yourself" next to a little bowl of candies or mints. Listing the foods laid out incase the host isnt around. That sort of thing.
I think you should consider getting bat stickers for the wall to give it more dimension and get a full moon sticker and put it behind the statue to make it pop out more 😍
I saved this for my afternoon slump, to enjoy with Pumpkin Chai, and it was totally worth it. I love theming and the way it turned out so far. Totally gonna have to do a sleepy hollow theme on my bookshelves since I don't have a fireplace
Right now with how hot and humid it is cleaning definitely feels like the chore it is but having this playing as I worked then peeking in on your progress as I made my own helped me to push along and get done. Thanks as always for your wonderful content. For years, I put nothing up for Halloween as "Im the only one you will see it," but channels like this let me live vicariously until the itch was too much to resist. Last year I let myself decorate a bit, and this year I've already added a few spiders and other small touches to my decor while it was August. Looking forward to adding more as the countdown to Halloween continues!
Edited to fix a couple typos but while Im here I wanted to say I love the idea of a small murder of crows with a couple or more sitting up on the sickle.

As per always, excellent job! And, hey- if it makes you feel any better, the little fanged jack-o-lantern looks like the pumpkins I get from my favourite pumpkin patch! Pumpkins get muddy sometimes. :) Also, I swear, these Bemidged ad spots are the only ad spots I don't zone out while watching!
I found a set of 5 crows from somewhere one year... I want to say Amazon? They had flying and sitting, etc.
I was thinking the scythe needed more crows, and then you said you were going to add them.

Absolutely beautiful midge! I would add more trees in the background. You can get trees that are big enough till they reach the scythe. I would add some twinkling jacks lantern lights on the ground to give it the trick or treat vibe which would work well with sleepy hollow. To start. To make it look like you stumbled upon an ancient altar of the headless horseman. Omg that sounds cool ❤

Its so cute! It may look cute to get a round or oval shaped spooky picture or mirror to go in the space on the wall just below the highest point of the scythe. You could use an ornate antiqued frame in black or old gold. As you can tell, I'm a maximalist too.

I’ve been using Modge Podge on the smooth finish and it helps keep the paint on it when you dry brush. I’ve done it with glass too. The modge podge dries clear and textured .

Love the mantel, with the little pumpkins try sanding them first and then dry brushing, it should give you the texture for the paint to grab on too.
