Snappy dialogue in the early Hitchcock vein (The Lady Vanishes, Young & Innocent) and fine portrayals by the leads make this pre-war gem a real pleasure. I'd never seen this film before --- thank you very much for making it available!
One of the best films I have seen in quite some time. Extremely witty with laugh out loud moments, good plot twists, budding romance. And trains! Not what I expected from the title and year of production.
Just started watching this and I like it already. I'm sure it will be good to the end. I judge 1930s comedy movies by My Man Godfrey, and this is right up there with it. The humour is not over done. Everything runs smoothly. Acting great and the lines are too. Thank you for posting it.
@Larry Whited Please re-read my comment. It states "Just started WATCHING this..." I didn't say how long I had been "WATCHING" the movie, but that I had been "WATCHING" the movie. So obviously I had WATCHED (part of) the movie and then gave my comment. As a matter of fact, the movie was "good to the end." Have a nice day!
These competent and convincing actors certainly knew their stuff. Realistic, nerve-racking, train crashes. Wise cracking, sharp, dialogue. Great direction. Very entertaining film.
A very high quality drama with much entertainment value. Constance Cummings and Edmund Lowe do well leading an excellent cast. The film is worthwhile to view with good audio and visual clarity for an 8 decade old movie.
My favorite kind of movie - a whodunit with an interesting plot, good acting, clever one-liners. Often the quick dialogue had moved ahead just as I was catching the double entendre of the last line. Thank you for sharing.
For the kids out there, they're at the movie to get news because average people didn't have tvs and even then didn't necessarily have the latest news. I love this movie, the costumes in the beginning...the fact they shine and sparkle in black and white is a testament to the designers. Fast paced, not corny well written and acted in my opinion. Thanks for posting 🎉
Some very good dialogue and repartee between the two leads. I'd never heard of Edmund Lowe but he was very good. Well done Walshamitte for spotting Arnold Ridley's credit.
+MrGerry010 agree, lowe and cummings were terrific delivering wit filled script BUT still confused by abrupt end, how did they escape crash, why the newsreel they were dead---went back and forth and i see the oncoming train hit dead-on-------going to have run some more, gees all the cast sshould dead----who was the killer the french police man??? the one they gave the cuff link haven't found any post with my confusion--o my.
This was wonderfully entertaining. Edmund Lowe was born in San Jose, Ca 03/03/1890. The Winchester House in San Jose, started being built in 1884. Mr. Lowe started out in vaudeville and then silent movies. He made some wonderful movies including "Dinner at Eight" with an all star cast. Happy Viewing from Las Vegas, NV September 27, 2018
as of now, june 2013, i have seen just over 40,300 movies and i just discovered youtube has full movies. seven sinners is a movie i had never found on tv, netflix, or interlibrary loans. i have no idea where you got it, but thank you very much for finding it and for uploading it.
I just learned about this one too and it’s the first time I’ve seen it! Thank goodness for thoughtful TH-camrs spreading copies of the great old classics!!
Loved the witty dialogues, didn't miss the rotten absolutely unnecessary gore and obscenity dished out in today's movies called modern art. Thank you very much for the upload. Love from India.
I watched Tarantino and Maher podcast and they talked about Gone With the Wind. It was on tv when i was a kid but i hadn't seen it as an adult. That movie drew me in! I am HOOKED on that era now!!! Edit = spelling: + y (the they) & capital m (Maher)
Viewed this and it is a very good movie. I've recently viewed about 5 or 6 movies from the 1930's, mystery ones that is, and they were pretty darn good.
Hahahaha!! That's part of the charm of these old movies. I like to see the cars being driven along a background/scenery that never changes. I often see fights and it's obvious that the fists never connect. :)
all the4 older movies relied on great scrpt, real STARS,great diercors,Hawkes,Capra,Van Dyke,Hohn Ford,John Ford, sooo many grear films. Now its all quick quick, lots of special digital. thank u 4 the upload,o love these ol movies, cary grant, liz taylor, the Coop,Marlena,GARBO.No one can touch the realcharisma these actors and others had.
+RIE B yeah - I got rid of my cable service a few years ago and I haven't missed it at all - I have Netflix and I also have been able to see a lot of good movies on You Tube, so screw cable! Who needs commercial TV? No more of that for me! And w/my AdBlocker Plus, I don't have to deal with any of the ads that I used to have to deal w/before watching a video on YT!! Yes - if you don't have AD BLOCKER PLUS-get it ASAP!! It's free & easy to download! No more annoying ads anywhere you go on the internet!!!
+Lillian Morgan Drop you pay television right away. I did 4 years ago and never thought twice about it. I remember when cable first came out and there were no advertisements. That was one of the selling points. That didn't last to long though. I don't suppose streaming with out paying will last for ever either so enjoy it while it lasts.
That this movie is witty should come as no surprise. The script is by Frank Launder & Sidney Gilliat who wrote Hitchcock's The Lady Vanishes & Carol Reed's Night Train to Munich.
sorry 4 my fast paced, very poor grammar,ua'll knew what i meant :They don't make 'm like the used too!Thank U so MUCH TCM,for doing what TURNER CLASS MOVIES,SHOULD be doing on utube! I haven't cable and LIVE 4 uploads and rare DVDs.Sony, many hrs of THANX! (((
SPOILER ALERT: The film never mentions where the weapons are sent from France. If I had to guess, they were smuggled into Spain either to help the Spanish fight Franco and his fascist army, or to help Franco. The Spanish Civil War had started in July, 1936. It ended in 1939 when Franco and his fascist followers took control. This film was made in 1936, right around the start of the Spanish Civil War. Can any historians shed some light on this? On my part it is only a guess... It is possible that the guns were meant to be delivered to general Franco, which the French officer considered much too immoral, and tried to stop them, while keeping the money at the same time. He was a terrible criminal because in order to assassinate the group of bandits, he derailed three trains with no consideration about all the innocent people who died in these accidents. The film is certainly sinister. Its film's plot and the types of criminals depicted reminded me of of C. K. Chesterton's novels, and his arch criminals, Aristide Valentin in particular. Valentin was the head of the Paris Police before Father Brown unmasked him as a criminal.
The snarky back-and-forth between the two leads is a blast. A delightful plot, unexpected twist, and perfect pacing makes this well worth the view.

This is better than expected. Good chemistry between the leads!
Not to mention the great quality of the picture and sound which makes it easy to watch and hear despite its age.
Just started watching this and I like it already. I'm sure it will be good to the end.

The snappy dialogue, alone, made this picture a delight.
Excellent plot. Acting and scenario. Worthy of Hitchcock.

Aren't they? Wonderful old films, love em all. Thank you persons for downloading. Made my week. Cheers Kelly, enjoy watching.

Man, those big Carnivale heads always creep me out!
Edmund Lowe was marvelous in the 1932 classic, Chandu the Magician. Wonderful special effects make that movie especially entertaining.
They don't write dialogue like this today.

Her wardrobe! Most especially the plaid suit, cut on the bias, and matched entirely.

Do You count all the dreadful films, in Your 40,000?
Elements of Nick and Nora Charles and a splendid chase to nab the killer mastermind. Kept my interest from start to finish. Thank you.

49:00- He says he's doing a hundred in a car with the top down and they both still have their hats on, haha.
Hahahaha!! That's part of the charm of these old movies. I like to see the cars being driven along a background/scenery that never changes. I often see fights and it's obvious that the fists never connect. :)
I also wonder ... how can a dining-car that's been disconnected from the rest of the train ... still have electricity for the lights?
@@AsWeSpeak154 it's the fun of make-believe.
That would be kilometers per hour, around 62 mph.
@@richbacon1218 oh thank you. Now I can watch this flick again, 9 years later
Great! I wanna go USA and see that all old movies!

There is bad language in most movies which is so repugnant and unnecessary.
I love French guys. Their accents are so charming.
They speak a different French up here in Ottawa with the result that their accents are not charming in English.
Thanks so much!
One of my favorites, of Edmund Lowe Hollywood star of silent and sound movies.
Great sound and picture quality.
thank-you for sharing these movies, eventually i can get rid of expensive tv .Bless you...)0(
You are right - there's rarely anything of quality on our cable!

I have cable included with my rental apt. but never bother to watch it. I prefer the old movies I can watch for free on TH-cam.
Yes Lillian me too~!!!
That this movie is witty should come as no surprise. The script is by Frank Launder & Sidney Gilliat who wrote Hitchcock's The Lady Vanishes & Carol Reed's Night Train to Munich.
One of the two writers was Arnold Ridley - he played Dad's Army's Private Godfrey many years later.
Thank you.
As good as a Hitchcock. Love it.
Thank You! ♥️♥️♥️
That's one awesome, attractive sidekick. I'd never let he out of my sight.
Love the graphics!
It’s a really good movie. Even by today’s standards. ❤

Those fire works
And explosions
A warning of what was coming
Six years later
Plot wise, a rather advanced movie for its time, as were the special f\x train wrecks.
great film
TH-cam slid me back to the wrong movie when I signed in to comment! Glad I stuck around to watch.
It would seem that rail travel was extremely dangerous in those days!
Poxa como vc coloca filme sem legenda em português
Seeing this for the second time.
This was later released with the title "Doomed Cargo."
I hadn't heard of this one. Great fun.

nj wilford I do not have cable either. Too expensive for a senior with a cat to support.
This is real talent, not a whole lot of special effects. You notice how it's close to reality, nobody's shooting sideways at a 5ft gap.
some great witty repartee.

Pretty spiffy titles at the beginning..

Forgive and thanks for forgiving the consequences of mentioning my wrong words thanks ds
Watchable. ❤
Love it
Terrible railway commuications system. Wrecks, wrecks everywhere.
And no exterior lights on the rear car.
the best!
Too many commercials!!!
49:55
Shots from THE WRECKER
Classy titles at the start.
MY REGARDS
Reminds me of Dick Powell and Myrna Loy. They may have modeled their characters from these British actors. Like House of Cards today.
William Powell and Myrna Loy
Pretty good special effects (train wrecks) for the ‘30s!
I’m unclear why the first character was murdered. The plot is a bit creaky. The movie is great however.
Yes. It’s a bit creaky. But suspend disbelief and it’s a good film.
LOVE This Movie LMAO.!!
😊😊
This was kinda like The 39 Steps
Fun!
📺
What is under the pillows at 12:58 and 13:06 ?

Disarming and charming.

Great train crashes.
