    You are a fount of knowledge! Definitely noticed that clip to zero made no difference for my melodic techno tracks but couldn’t explain why

    • @Projektor_music
      @Projektor_music  15 วันที่ผ่านมา

      depends on the target LUFS you are going for, if it's something like -6 or higher I can assure you that clip to zero makes a difference

    I also always use the FabFilter Pro-MB when mastering. I put on 3 bands. Band 1: 0Hz to 200Hz, 1.5db expansion. Band 2: 200Hz to 1000Hz, 1.5db compression. Band 3: 1000Hz to end, 1.5db expansion. This results in a nice punchy low and top end. Because of the preringing, I don't use it in linear phase. I use a slope of 12db/octave and it sounds great😊

      Like I said in the chat, feel free to use whatever you want. It will always depend a bit of the track you are mastering but for psytrance specifically I'd try to keep the filtering to a minimum due to the bleeding effect. I also never just cut 20Hz or something like that from my master...

      @@Projektor_musicI also don't use lowcut or highcut in the equalizer.
      My mastering chain is the following:
      1: FabFilter ProQ-3
      2: MCompressor
      3: FabFilter Pro MB
      4: Submission Audio Flatline (It's a Clipper)
      5: FabFilter ProL-2.
      I find that the FabFilter Pro-MB causes little to no phase shifts.

      @@dieemptyofficial8419 FabFilter Pro-MB uses the same diital filter implementation as any other multiband plugin & will result in the same phase shift as any other digital filter. Keep in mind that phase shift isn't an artifect of a filter, it's how it's implemented.

    • @dieemptyofficial8419

      OK. Then the phase shift just hasn't caused me any problems so far. What do you think it would be like if I used the Pro-MB in linear-phase mode? Could this cause problems with preringing? I don't want to destroy my kick & bass transients. I use the ProQ-3 in linear phase mode to filter kick, bass and drums when I transition from one part to the next and that causes a certain amount of preringing, but it is not audible. What tip would you give me to create the punchy low and top end like with Pro-MB? Would it perhaps be better to compress the kick & bass (for me a group track, I work with Cubase) and the drums group (hats & snares) by 1.5db in the mix at a rate of 4:1 using the MCompressor or the FabFilter ProC? Then I could possibly do mastering without the Pro-MB to prevent further phase shifts

      @@dieemptyofficial8419 yeah I'm not saying it will always lead to problems, just that it CAN and you should be careful with it, but it sounds like you know what you are doing...
      When it comes to pre-ringing I think it's effects are slightly exxagirated. Doesn't mean you can throw 20 linear phase plugins on your master but 1 won't hrt the punch of your kick in a significant way, unless you are doing some ungodly amount of gain reduction after it, but then you have bigger problems than that :)
      IDK why you keep mentioning such specific settings to me, I won't reccomend you use a specific ratio or specific gain reduction amount cus I am not mixing your track for you. I'd only be able to give those reccomendations if I have that level of knowledge of your track. That being said I like doing a bit of glue compression on my drums for sure, although I personally don't glue my kick & bass like that...
      BTW if you want a longer more effective discussion on this discord is probably better for that, you could send some audio examples there too if you want

    for a while last year a was throwing a multiband compressor (fruity loops maximus) on everything and calling it a day lol, i had to undo that, and im just not gonna do that anymore unless its a creative decision, ill do the creative part, and if i ever need to play on mono or festival or any large speakers , i will let the pros on fiver or whoever take care of the that part of the process, my final mix and master just need to be good enough for my headphones and car atm, i dont care for mixing and mastering really, i think its interesting and necessary , but im not gonna worry about it anymore, good enough is ok for me. for now.

    • @Projektor_music
      @Projektor_music  16 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      that's a wild take IMO. Shouldn't you just make music to the best of your capabilities... rulling out mixing and mastering as not neccesary seems idiotic to me especially cus you still need mixing & mastering in a car or on headphones... BTW why would you look on fiverr if you can just ask me :)

      @@Projektor_music i like making music, once im satisfied with how the final song sounds, i listen to it for days and maybe redo some stuff, maybe there's a harsh up frequency here and there, or the something doesn't sound the same on car speakers or headphones, but when the song sounds PerfecT to me, its time to move on to the next one, its done, i always export my stems and have a zipped project file, for whoever Needs to make it sound appropriate for whatever streaming site, vinyl, cd or any sound system. , maybe you could say i do alot Mixing in the project. moreover i dont enjoy the mixing and mastering process i can't be creative in the way that makes me satisfied, also i know if i had the knowhow to do it quickly and easily i probably would,. I used to feel, Of Course, i need to know how to mix and master, recently i've come the conclusion i preciously stated, and im at peace with it. thanks for the reply, i appreciate your perspective very much.

      @@philipkauffman2500 Ahh so you already have a mixing engineer & mastering engineer looking at it, then it makes sense to not really care. That being said it doesn't seem that you don't care as you describe how you mix stuff in your project (removing harsh frequencies is part of the mixing process, so you mix, maybe not fully or maybe not very well but you do it already)
      I understand you might not enjoy the mixing process and for that there are indeed people you can hire that will do it for you but I don't think music can be published without a mixing stage in there somewhere.

      @@Projektor_music i do value professional mixers and people who master tracks, and i think it is , as far as professional standards, very necessary if you plan for people to hear it in a variety of ways and enjoy it in the way they are accustomed to, i would always differ to more seasoned experts who have an years of experience bringing a finished product to the masses , but as far as being a creative person, there's no right or wrong way to go about expressing yourself through some type of creation or art. People like lofi hip hop with added vinyl crackle and Distorted kick drums, as well as various other, now common, things that would once be considered undesirable or unprofessional sounding. But yea mix and master if u plan to have your music listened to by the public writ large. thanks for your reply, i appreciate your time.

      Joooo I totally agree. I have the feeling that mastering is just a whole different thing. And to learn and master it would take a lot of time. I'm still learning how to produce tracks and I have a lot of fun learning about that. But when it comes to mixing and mastering I just hate it. Sitting there trying to make a track louder but then seeing that all my meters clip and show red numbers. Then I want to try to fix it and suddenly my whole track sounds different and shit. Nah I feel you. Mixing and mastering is just a pain in the ass and not on my to do list for now. Like you I am using FL Studio and I have the feeling that this DAW is shit to master tracks.
