I'm revisiting this, watched yrs ago whilst learning about my new career within music/dementia therapy. This vid (& others by Naomi Feil, Teepa Snow, & careblazers), were priceless for my understanding. Years later I'm still doing music with dementia and it's THE most rewarding thing I've EVER done... music has been the key for many beautiful connections with clients.. peace.❤

This is incredibly informative. Thank you, I’ll use these techniques with my dad next time I visit him.

You are a genuine human being young man. One day you too shall grow old. Please spread the word about this amazing technique. Most staff have no idea what is actually occurring when the technique is used and unfortunately some of them won't see its value because it takes time...but it is very likely that using the technique will save an escalation in behavior. If the need isn't met, it doesn't go away, it just causes an increase in time spent later. Any staff who won't use it because of time are just waiting for the next shift to worry about it getting worse...and it does get worse. A lot worse. That isn't compassionate elder care. We have a responsibility to treat our patients or residents as we would hope to be treated. If we don't die, we surely will get old and when we do, what will be our karma? What we do to another we also do to ourselves. It may not be evident immediately, but everything we do does come back on us. It is just a matter of time.

And now, six years later I'm becoming a Certified Validation Teacher. Thanks to Rita Altman and Naomi Feil for bringing this amazing theory and practice to me, enriching my life, career, and ability to assist and support others.

I've been practicing this without knowing this was an official technique! I love the opportunity to learn more of this technique and to teach it to my staff. Thank you for sharing your point of view.

You took her to her father's store. Are you aware of Conrad Baars' work? Seems complimentary
