    #videoidea I think it would be an interesting video if Coco ordered clothes from a range of brands (lower and high end prices/high street and premium) and see if Freddy can guess the price/where it’s from/quality without having seen the logos/branding first 🤔

      I totally agree BUT you have to be able to afford buying e.g. a £100 Jeans when you need a new one. Many people can’t afford that. Not just „poor families“ but also students. But when you take care of your clothes even cheaper ones can last years. I myself have for example H&M clothes from when I went to school that are over 6 years old and still wearable. The main issue are people shopping for stuff they don’t Need. Freddy for example has said multiple times that she owns clothes she hasn’t even worn or only worn a couple of times. No one needs multiple dresses that are just slightly different.

    • @mollyoxy

      The past two years I only go shopping twice a year. Once for spring summer, once for fall winter. And thanks to Marie Kondo-ing my entire wardrobe during the beginning of quarantine, I only buy quality “essentials” now. I’ve honestly saved so much money spending MORE on quality pieces. Just less pieces.

      @@Bertiiiiii I buy quality clothes second hand online. They cost around 10 untill 50 percent from the original price. To be fair, Zara is also very unethical and problematic so no one who’s buying at Zara should actually judge people buying from these stores (I’m not speaking about Freddie, just in general). Oh and also if the people who make these clothes were paid fairly, none of these outfits would be worth 2£ even if they were low quality fabrics. I just think it’s worth mentioning (and yeah I get that some people can’t afford to buy expensive clothes, but the thing is that if clothes were better quality (and I include Zara in this) they would last longer and we wouldn’t have to buy that many). That being said, I still enjoyed the video! I love Freddy’s personality ☺️

    @8:33 Zara is not an ethically conscious shop. They use forced labor. (Forced as in the people making the clothes aren’t paid. They’re forced to work there). Remember that next time you list ethically conscious shops. They most certainly are not that. I think there is an app called “good on you” and it’s really nice because it tells you on a scale of 1-5. It shows you how ethical your clothes are. And if I remember correctly Zara is on scale 1 😬😬 but I think people are sometimes unwahre of that and continue to buy from there. I am also not judging Freddy I absolutely adore her videos and personality💕, but I am also speaking generally for the public. If I also recall, I think H&M are finally starting to go more ethical these days. And you will often find more and more labels saying “100% recycled polyester or Cotten on there clothes.
    Keep that in mind that Polyester is also an awful fabric as it’s made of plastic and cannot deteriorate like Cotten as it’s not organic. So if everyone can try and avoid plastic fabrics. The world might actually be a lot better in terms of the environment. ❤️❤️❤️

    I'm literally watching this while ironing my thrifted silks which feels ironic haha. I used to think "well I'm a broke student/recent graduate what else can I do?" but then I started wandering the thrift stores and finding gorgeous silk tops for $10-$30 CAD and cashmere sweaters for $15-$40. It's interesting to watch but the amount of fast fashion being produced is staggering, it's kind of scary to think about. I do still shop at stores like Aritzia, which isn't perfectly ethical but they are trying to improve and include more sustainable fabrics and production methods. I know how to get the most out of their sales by now, especially since regular customers get special sales, and the quality is usually very reliable. I must warn people though, once you start to focus on buying quality natural fiber fabrics anything else makes your skin sad. Even if I see an adorable acrylic sweater now I just can't do it! Cashmere is an addiction! Nobody told me that it gets softer and even more heavenly over time, but if you care for it properly it truly does!

    The sustainability thing is such a controversial topic and I understand that financial concerns are valid; I've experienced this myself. However, it seems to me that quite a lot of the time people say they can't afford to shop sustainably or more ethically yet they continue accumulate so much stuff. For example, they may have 5 pairs of cheap H&M jeans that they acquired over the course of a couple of years when instead they could have put all that money into a single pair of high quality jeans, say from Everlane (just as an example.) Obviously this is not everyone and I'm not talking about people in really poor situations, but I have seen people balk at the price of a single garment because they think they need to indulge in maximalism with their wardrobe. Of course sustainable shopping is daunting when you think you need to have a lot of things. When you really pare back your possessions and take stock of what you actually love to wear, you can put your money where your heart is.
    Perfection doesn't exist and all we can do is try, but I think it has to begin with being honest with ourselves. We need to take more responsibility for how we 'vote' with our money and stop putting all the blame on companies for shoving trends down our throats. We are not obligated to buy what they're marketing to us.

      I sometimes think due to social media, people are obsessed with having far more clothes to snap for their Instagram. 15 years ago, we just never thought that way. It was normal to be seen in the same outfit multiple times. Or we were a bit more creative, switching up a belt or scarf.
      Then you would save up and after a few month buy new items. Then as you progressed in your job/career you would build up your wardrobe in the sales with investment pieces. Which back in the day only really happened twice a year. Now it is every month on line:)

    Thank you Freddy. I really like your personality and style. Well, I can't believe the dress cost 36£ either, since the minimum wage in my country is 173£ . I wonder how much all this shoddy clothes cost, because the women who work crazy shifts making clothes here in my country barely earn that figure per month. To think that the situation here is much better than in other countries in the region! I'm sorry for my bad English.

    How could a garment cost £2 to make! For a worker at minimum wage that would be less than half an hour to make, and that wouldn’t even cover the fabric costs! I think we need to rethink fast fashion in a major way.

      @SerenaDAlexander 3 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      absolute agree! we really need to start speaking with our purses more. It is horrible the conditions that many of the people that work for these companies have to deal with. Think I need to do some research on slow fashion companies.

    • @LionessHeart08
      @LionessHeart08 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Exactly! People complain about an $80 shirt because they’ve been accustomed to believe that shirts should cost $15. They don’t think about the production and the people behind that it. Most of the clothes I own are from F21 because that’s all we could afford. Now, I’m accumulating pieces from Reformation very slowly. The quality is great and I actually love every item. And even if I don’t, I can sell them for a decent price. No one would pay any money for a ratty old F21 dress. My mom thinks I’m crazy for spending a lot of money on one item of clothing, but she doesn’t mind spending the same amount for half a dozen low quality pieces. I’d rather have one item from a sustainable brand, than half a dozen of cheap stuff that will only last a few years. Of course there are thrift stores, but there are no good ones near me 🙁

    The tape in the hem of the white skirt is probably horsehair braid (or a version thereof). And you’re spot on with its use. It is to give structure to the hem and therefore to the fall of the skirt.
