I sooo agree with you with the educational part of the ZX81. My first computer was a ZX81 with 16kb and I had no software for it but BASIC and imagination and it was everything I needed as a 10 year old kid.
I love the low res version of the Gerry Anderson S.H.A.D.O UFO Interceptor in that game you were playing, which had a large missile attached to it's front end. That Sci-Fi series was set in the future - 1980, good choice of inspiration for a ZX81 game.
What a beautiful little computer, amazing job on the upgrades!
Cheers!
This is amazing! I wish I could have this done to my Timex Sinclair 1000.
Thanks!
Could not find any free software on RWAP. And you can solder a joystick jack to the keyboard connections.
It would nice to have a new larger keyboard and case for ZX81 and Spectrums. Just a generic retro 8bit case and unwired keyboard.
Someone must have developed a method to directly load the SRAM with program data. It was done by Commodore long ago, with the 1541 disk drive (that was more powerful then then Vic20) .
Do you have any information onto which pads you have to solder the RAM pins in a Issue One ZX81 ? You are the first person I notice that is using pads on top . Thanks in advance
Those are VIAs. Regrettably, no, I don't think I have an issue one.
@@thebyteattic ah I thought the ZX81 RAM upgrade you are showing in this video is an Issue One PCB ?
Sorry, I mistook the video you are commenting on. Those are indeed pads, the ones used by the diode array. I show where they are in the previous episodes of this series, just have a look there.
