    Getting started with credit cards while in college puts you WAY ahead of your peers when setting yourself up for financial success. That is of course if you use it responsibly and only spend money on the card that you have in the bank. If you use your credit cards like a debit card, you'll be able to build up that credit score early and get a headstart on building that financial future everyone's looking for.
    I personally got started with the Chase Freedom Student and it served me really well as I was able to get started in Chase's ecosystem from the get-go. Because of that relationship I built with them, I haven't been denied from any of their card applications thus far and I've been able to rack up a ton of Chase points that I can use for free travel down the line. Great video as always Daniel!! This is a really important topic and you covered it very well!

    Excellent video Danny. I think for students, those catch-all cards are the way to go. Speaking of the Capital Savor One, that has to be one of the most underrated cards on the market, especially the full version. It offers terrific returns on a wide breadth of categories, plus some travel rewards (almost unheard of for a cash back card) and no foreign transaction fee.
    All of these cards are good choices though for college students and I agree in that the main thing is to form good spending and paying habits as well as developing positive credit relationships with issuers. It all starts there.

    Great list here Daniel! I think the availability of local banks also can play a factor for college credit cards. Although Chase probably the best one to start with, if there are no Chase banks, maybe it's better to go with another issuer. That was the case with me and Bank of America - thanks for mentioning their student card as one of your picks! Underrated card for college students IMO!

    Discover it. The goat of starter cards. Use it for a year and put all your spend on it for that first year match. They matched $312 for me for over $600 bucks back on what i was gonna spend anyway. Generous credit line increases as well without asking i went from $1500 limit to $4k by the end of the first year. Can't recommend more

    It also depends where the students bank at. You're more likely to skip the nonsense of low-limit CCs if you already have a healthy bank balance ($10K+ combined balance) at a national bank and apply for a CC with them. I still keep my low thrills CC I got in college 15 years ago because it is has an insane limit ($50k). Canceling it would wreck my credit score (818 atm), so I just dump some recurring monthly fees on it to keep it active.

    While it's generally too early to talk to students about Preferred Rewards, it's important to note that BoA is a relationship bank and issuer. If you don't have accounts with them, your odds of denial are high. If you have accounts with them and then later buildup your investments that you have with them, Preferred Rewards can kick in and earn you higher returns on your BoA cards.
    Relationships, relationships, relationships :)

    Honestly Daniel I got the deserve EDU as my second card as a freshman in college, first being a discover card. I’ve since graduated and still have the deserve account open. But they still have not increased my credit limit from $300 even after having it for 4 years, and I have substantially higher CL’s with other cards like my delta gold Amex, Apple Card and BofA customized cash rewards. Even discover has increased my limit by a LOT. The deserve credit limit remaining stagnant even after having the account for 4 years is honestly just kinda disappointing.

    Hey, Daniel Braun I am new to credit cards and just had a quick question if you had time! Say I buy something for 200$ and pay it off with a debit card the next day before my statement closes does that 200$ count towards earning points and going towards the spending amount for the Welcome bonus or does only what gets reported at the end of the month benefit you.

  • @thaishagede2588
    @thaishagede2588 ปีที่แล้ว

    I clicked here because I’m in the process of closing my current credit card account with BOA so I’m researching my best options. Let me just say, there’s a reason why the BOA Customized Cash card is last; it sucks! The only advantage that comes with this card is the 18 months of 0% APR which is a longer period than most credit cards. Their interest rate is through the roof, it seems as if they charge the highest amount of interest possible. Additionally, BOA tends to work against you whenever fraudulent transactions occur on your account. Where a bank like Chase provides you with the funds during the investigation period, BOA does not. They also tend to side with the fraudulent party as if it’s your fault. Lastly, the have 3% foreign transaction fee that I was unaware of until watching this video. Overall, I would not recommend that card for students. Based on this video, it seems like the best 2 options are the DISCOVER IT card and the Chase Unlimited card. Thank you for this vid.
