- NOTE: Seems like there is a bug in macOS 14.5 and the screenshot capture Shortcuts action isn't working anymore. Until Apple fixes it, I have posted a temporary fix in a Patreon video (but I have made it available to everyone, not just supporters): / 105248702
macmost.com/e-2576 You can create a Shortcut that will allow you to capture a portion of your screen, and then the text from that image will be extracted and placed in the clipboard. This is useful where you can't normally select and copy text from websites and apps.

Glad to know it isn't just me. I used this shortcut all the time. Just reported it to Apple. Thanks Gary!

It seems like taking screen shots is indeed no longer working via shortcuts, but I've created a workaround, but unfortunately I can't drop a screenshot here :/

@@jacintopc Yes. It seems to work if you replace the Interactive Screenshot action with a Run Shell Script action using the script "screencapture -ci" inside it. Then in the Extract Text From action, use "Clipboard" as the parameter. I may do a video on this. Credit to: github.com/e-kotov/macos-shortcuts

Yes, I can remember when I use to own a PC there was a “Clip” I think he was called Clippy. Now I have a Mac. I could imagine having Gary as a sort of Clippy. He would be there helping me by giving me advice and telling me if I’m not doing something right. Then show me the right way. 🤣

Can’t think of the number of times I’ve gotten a MacOS alert that I then wanted to do a search to get more information. This shortcut is going on my Mac soon!
I created 25 files with long filenames in a folder. I wanted to make a record of the filenames for later reference. Using this shortcut - my first ever - I was able to view the files in List mode, run the shortcut, and paste the list of filenames perfectly into Numbers. So awesome! Thanks a billion!

This is exactly the shortcut I needed, and since I have never used shortcuts before I set it up exactly as you demonstrated. Having that as an icon on my menu bar is great, and now it is all set to selective screen capture and export to the clipboard. THANK YOU GARY!
Gary, this was a really useful Shortcut. The first one that I've incorporated into my daily use. The video on how to create the Shortcut has made me want to learn more about Shortcut applications and learning to build additional ones. Thank you! Hope you will share some more.
You have taught me more about Mac functionality in the past 3 weeks than I ever could have learned on my own. What a great shortcut use. I am constantly getting docs where I need to copy odd sections of text to copy. This will come in handy quite a bit!
So helpful with a list of folders and images in Finder and so much more! As many commenters have said, one of the first really useful shortcuts I could use because there really is not a long cut for it. Thank you again!

Thanks Gary for one of the most useful Mac tips for me. Just a note about using this to capture the text of a typewritten letter. I tried to capture the entire body of the letter in one shot. The resultant text in the clipboard was broken up into many more lines than the original. Also some of the lines were out of order.

Marvelous! This can work for selecting the list of registered participants of a Zoom meeting and putting that list in a Numbers file or other document without all the other cells that show up in the Zoom report.
