James is THEE most important book in the Bible for our current times. There are many key lessons. But especially these verses dealing with our God given self evident Freedom of Speech here in the USA: James 1:19, 1:21, 3:6.
This is because the 21st century has given rise to the dominance of social media as the public square. But this new public square is not just a few blocks in dimension with a single voice with limited volume. It is potentially and indeed increasingly the whole world as all peoples are brought the internet, the devices, and on-the-fly language translators for videos ,text, and memes/pics with text. Technology has advanced immensely and exponentially in Amplifying a single tongue. The tongue provides the spark and technology provides the explosive power to spread the fire extremely quickly and even lethally.
The tongue can also just cut like a knife in speaking to just one person. So also choose your words wisely IRL where technology is not amplifying your voice. Proverbs 12:18.
