The young woman in the opening, Dr. Sharlene Katz, died in 2017. She was a professor of electrical engineering, and helped launch a cubesat. Crazy seeing both sides of a life through amateur radio.
My father used to be an amateur radio operator. He had a great time back in the 1980s and 1990s. He had a resurgence of interest in the radio hobby because of all the radios I have acquired completely free. He got a shortwave listening radio to listen in. What he heard was men talking about their health problems. He resigned from studying for his license because of rhe conversations he overheard. He has no desire to talk about bad prostates, cholesterol, diabetes, heart disease, and ingrown toenails.
@LazloNQ That makes sense. I have so any radios that could easily setup a station, except my antenna would just be a peace of wire. Being by an airport probably has restrictions. As you and I know, the antenna is what accomplishes the distance. A 100 watt station will out perform a 600 watt station if it has the right antenna. This is why I, myself, am very reluctant to get licensed, as well. I just repair, configure, programme, modify, build for others, and listen for myself.
