    i dont know what i should get more impressed... a 3d printed blade at 20k rpm, or a eletric motor surviving at almost 200% of nominal power

    • @johan1740
      @johan1740 4 ปีที่แล้ว +26

      I think while they may only be advertised for 800w sustained power draw/output, these motors are probably capable of consuming much greater power and delivering that higher power output, but for only short durations.

      @Tensho_C 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@AKAtheA technically you can over current and overvolt them until smoke starts appearing and shut it off. Let it cool down and it will still work. (not that you should)

    • @halted_code
      @halted_code 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@johan1740 eh if you have enough cooling it should be fine, though i guess there is a point where the required cooling for the motor will be impossible to attain.

  • @SteveSiegelin

    You should usually include a stator inside your EDF to straighten the flow. This stator will also provide back pressure on the intake fan providing additional stress levels. You might want to test this theory as well. I know you're not trying to make a functional EDF but rather test your printer. Additional forces on the fan blade may allow for better strength testing. Also this will allow the can to pressurize a little bit more testing the outer wall strengths as well. All in all well done, looks like an excellent little machine!

  • @AdrianBawn
    @AdrianBawn 4 ปีที่แล้ว +43

    So from the design, the inside of the outer shell appears to still be hollow, but with structural supports. How do you get the un-sintered powder out of the the hollow? there doesnt appear to be any hole. And if you arent removing un-sintered internal powder, why not just sinter it all and make the shell solid?

    • @lordadamfirst
      @lordadamfirst 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Could be to do with the unsintered powder being less dense and therefore less heavy than sintered. But if weight saving is the aim then I would expect them to fully remove it as you said.
      The part doesn't look thick enough to need hollowing to reduce the energy in that area of the build either.
      Strange

    • @dieteralfred8636
      @dieteralfred8636 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      They dont remove it. And it is stupid to not sinter it all. The reason why they didnt do that, is because of printing time.

    If this is gonna actually be used by modelers i would highly recommend fixed counter angle blades to help straightened exhaust flow. You can see the air flow is spinning as it exits. You could easily achieve higher efficiency with 5%-15% more thrust per watt. But overall an amazing project. Well done. I might try it out on my MSLA printer with a high polymer resin. Going to be experimenting with chopped carbon strand/multiwall carbon tube infused resin

    • @MessInMines

      @Semper Fortis A turbine takes energy from *outside* the system and converts it into mechanical energy tu use into the system. (like how a water turbine converts the flow of water into mechanical energy and then sends it to an alternator to convert it into electrical energy)
      This does the opposite. It takes electrical energy from inside the system (the electrical energy from the battery) and converts it into mechanical energy and puts it out of the system as an airflow.
      A turbine takes energy from the outside. A fan puts energy outside.
      This is *clearly* a fan.
      I just saw that they even say it in the description of the video. They say it's an elelctric ducted fan. The title is just clickbaity.

    RPMs and thrust loading along with weight of the fan component? (Watts alone doesn't tell entirely what stress is seen because of differences in motor types. Some will put that power towards the potential torque available, but will not see forces that will stress a component while mostly unloaded.)

    Цена 150 евро за килограмм пластиковой пыли это уже большой прогресс по сравнению с другими производителями. Я видел такие банки и по 500-700 евро. При этом килограмм полиамида стоит 5 баксов... С другой стороны мой FDM принтер печатает со слоем в 0,6 не хуже чем этот из пудры. На мой взгляд эта технология слишком переоценена и сопряжена с массой трудностей, таких как постобработка деталей. А хотят денег за нее, будто бы этот принтер печатает металлом. Мне, если честно не совсем понятна экономическая ниша этой "чудо техники". Если говорить за производство прототипов, современные слайсеры делают чудеса и на принтере за 500 долларов можно напечатать то же самое, что вы напечатали на лазерном. Если говорить о производстве изделий мелкой серией с заданными прочностными параметрами, то цена как материала, так и самого принтера заоблачная. У нас в стране можно кое где купить квартиру в городе по цене такого одного принтера. Только не обижайтесь на критику, я потенциальный покупатель таких принтеров, но я не вижу к сожалению ниши для него на своем производстве, несмотря на то, что я изделия массой в 100 граммов из полиамида продаю по цене в 50 долларов. Все равно печатать их на 3д принтере не выгодно.

      premièrement il est anglais, donc le commentaire ne sera jamais lu, deuxièmement, rien ne t'empèche de l'imprimer avec la matière que tu veux et la faire tourner moins vite sans risquer d’endommager la structure
