My friend also completed the trip from Kolkata Rajarhat to Siliguri day before yesterday in 12.5 hours including 3 stops totaling 2 hours. I am travelling day after tomorrow early morning. I think once some of the remaining flyovers and widenings are completed, it will be possible to cover this in under 10 hours including halts. I am also going to Gangtok. Let's see how much that takes.

You could have taken the route via Darjeeling. I think that should have been a better option.

According to the map it takes 1hour extra in that route. And also we already went to Darjeeling 2 years back, so wanted to take this route this time :)

Keeping aside the distance, what about the road quality? Any idea if the road via darjeeling is better than the one via Sevoke Road/triveni?

Road quality is good for about 90%. I wont recommend taking any other options to reach Pelling.
