    Disney had a plan to extend the monorail all the way to the studio in Burbank!!!!! And it ALMOST happened. Shame it didn’t.

      @@ThatBIGTRAINGuy he owned it personally. And wanted to develop an entire transit system. And the city came up with as I recall 3 million? About 25 million I’m today’s money. But just not enough and it just didn’t happen. Or was it 20 million. Probably that. It was a lot of money from LA.

    Disneyland railroad was my introduction to steam trains, my dad would take me to Disneyland on Wednesday's after school in the 90's to ride the train and was lucky enough to get quite a few tender rides! I was just at Disneyland on Monday and got my last ride on Splash Mountain and a few laps on EP Ripley! Still live about 20 minutes from Disneyland and Knott's so I can get that train fix every so often. It's awesome you were able to find these home videos!

      Oh wow, lovely story there. Thank you.
      I was amazed when I was checking up about the rides while I was editing and was amazed that the last day open was TODAY. What a coincidence.
      I'd love to visit Knott's one day. I wasn't aware of it back when we visited California, but on asking my Dad he feels he might have been aware of it, but we had a lot to do.
      One day 😉

    Whoa! Simon with short hair!! This video brings back memories. I should dig out my Disney vids for a trip down memory lane. I was surprised to learn on a visit when my daughter was 16 that while the river boat follows a cabled underwater track and thus needs no steering the paddle wheel is powered by an actual steam plant.

    • @ThatBIGTRAINGuy
      @ThatBIGTRAINGuy  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ha! Yes. Short for another seven years maybe.
      That would be fun to see yours. And yes the boars are technically a railway of sorts too. They have a switch into a siding (or a harbour) and apparently it's quite prone to getting the boats stuck 😂

      @@TheRedandWhitehandItsbruttiyuNot on this visit, but we did on a later year. The ride actually broke down as we got near the end! We stopped and all the lights came on, exposing the ride and a bare rolercoaster in a warehouse building 😂. We got going again, and they let us ride a second time. I remember seeing the people at the station looking annoyed yelling "Why are they going again?!?!?"

      End of May it was.
      Yeah they're refurbishing and rebranding Splash Mountain into a new theme. Apparently something in it was racist, - I can't remember the ride before the waterfall bit. Ah well times change.
      Thanks Tim!

    Ah this is fab! Love the old videos and seeing how things used to be. Is it just me, or does that riverboat look really low down in the water? California is certainly more Paris vibe than Florida. And thanks for sharing the pictures as well. I'm guessing you got your love of trains and videoing from your Dad!

    • @ThatBIGTRAINGuy
      @ThatBIGTRAINGuy  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Haha! Yes that boat does look a bit overloaded. Ya know, those boats are technically another railway! They run on a track on the riverbed. The points into the dock have always been problematic and the boats often get stuck 😂.
      Yes, my Dad bought a video camera as soon as he could afford one, and (when I was allowed) I was very creative when I was a kid. Dad had an interest in trains, but he says I took it to a whole new level. 😁

      True, it is a shame that area was taken. But, what an iconic rollercoaster. It's "runaway mine train" theme has been copied by so many other amusement parks around the world.

      @@ThatBIGTRAINGuy the old ride was… well… weak. But damn. I loved it. It was classic 1957. It was very “Roy Rodgers” and TV Westerns. An IT WAS A TRAIN. So I miss it. But it sorta lives on. Sorta.

    My husband tried to push me off a roller ride in Disneyland in front of my young daughter. I think it was in August of 1996. He was yelling at the female employee that he already closed the bar. He did not allow her to check it. The bar kept moving by two inches. As we came to a steep drop, I saw him push the bar open. He had one hand under my arm pit trying to push me out. My knees were above the bar. When the ride was over I ran to the photo desk to tell them what happened. He threatened me so when the police found him the next day. I could not tell them what he did. He planned the whole thing after reading how much someone received in a lawsuit. Kent Cheney from Utah is a devil.
