Hi Will, I have been mixing my own ‘beta fuel’ for a while now with a 1:08 ratio maltodextrin to fructose. For some reason fructose is getting a little bit harder to buy and I was wondering if I could use normal sugar? but still fuel each bottle with 70g-100g carbs.Having watched your excellent video’s on carbohydrate and how using different types you are able to maximise your intake, how does sugar fit into the ‘ratio’ when compared with maltodextrin & fructose. Thanks as always

Hi Will, loving the videos. Just on the topic of the crit riders question. I train before work each morning doing tempo, sweet spot sessions etc and would normally just have an espresso with a bottle of water while getting ready. Should I eat before these 1 hour sessions and am I losing out by not fueling?

I would suggest trying to get 40-60g high Gi carbohydrate in as depending on the intensity you may struggle to maintain output for the whole hour - so fruit juice and a banana or toast and jam or a mixture of the 2 would work well

Thanks for the info! One (hopefully quick) question. If you're doing a longer cycling training block with session lasting 2-3.5h, burning 1.2-2.5k kcal in each of them and doing it 5 times per week. How many percent of those calories should you take in on the bike?

I wouldn't work with % on the bike I would look more at what can you absorb per hour and then what do you need to complete the session
