ABOUT THIS EPISODE
On a gorgeous night in New York City we made our way up to the rooftop where we were to meet Widowspeak and began getting set up. The light was perfect, the cameras in place, the mics were ready to attach, but there was no band. As we watched the orange glow from the summer's sun began to intensify behind the buildings we began looking around and heard murmers from within the elevator shaft. Widowspeak were trapped.
After finding a way out and getting all set up they kicked into a beautiful and intimite rendition of 'In The Pines' from their namesake album 'Widowspeak'. The sunset glistened and it was almost hard to watch the band as the backdrop perfectly silhouetted them on the roof. 'In The Pines' fluttered across the roof with the beat of the drum, the intricate guitars and Molly's soft vocals. One song, one take.
While we were packing up the gear we turned to see the band giving another one take performance specifically for one of our shooters. Patrick was being serenaded by the band with no cameras rolling before everyone dispersed on a genuinely magical night.

they refer to the 2 chords song above. with no offences but this music is way too primitive for the time we are living. you guys have to stop listening main stream media. btw there are 42 with me now. lol
as humans evolve they get into the civilized complexity of life and obsolescence is left behind. we could only agree if beauty in any case is a relative word based on the judgement of every individual. most people today NO longer use typewriters or the torch to light our home nor we believe the world is flat, etc. we might eventually forget this sort of mediocre music if ever we open our mind to evolution itself or we could simply listen to it for the eternity of our existence while we ride a horse by the main street.
You know our brain is like a massive multi-core processor. we can elaborate a certain amount of info simultaneously and the more we focus the more we can processes. why are we going to get stuck with a simple look to things when we could see the actual object from several perspectives and dimensions? we have the ability to dive and look into the deep of things and that's pretty much our role if we are to evolve fast. of course i don't mean to completely forget the past (that would be essentially impossible) but to use it in addition to what we create and move forward to. the problem with this music is that fails to add something new to what have been already created and overused. it lacks depth and complexity and their arrangements are quite narrow, in a certain way ignoring a whole universe that have been discovered just after. there is not merit to continuously repeat the same sketch over and over again and that's what's happening with most music today. we rarely get something fresh, instead we are just going back and fore to the 60's then 70's and 80's and so on. we are actually so focused on the past that we barely create something new.
I say absolute simplicity is a thing of the past. we need to start looking at simplicity as part of something complex accordingly to our times.
Art is creation all about bud. and yes, there is a revolution in every one of us!

Beguiling tune, immediately reminiscent of Elysian Fields (especially Molly Hamilton's witchy vocal style, which clearly owes a debt to the wonderful Jennifer Charles), but with an interesting country-gothic flavor that is more Nashville than Brooklyn. A band worth keeping tabs on.

Its made out of a cigar box, but its more of Appalachian mountain dulcimer. Diatonic fretting, light strings, bottom two are drone strings. :) Not to be a smartass or anything.

Looks like a cigar box guitar, their a rudimentary 'home made' four string guitar made from bric a brac bits and pieces traditionally by poor folk/blues musicians. Some luthiers make them professionally now as the have become kind of fashionable.
Joe Mc It's got quite a unique banjoesque sound. I'd love to make one of those and have a banjo-like instrument for super cheap :)

It's a cigar box guitar. Not too difficult to fabricate and there's all different styles.

amazing song, but that guitarist is an unforgivable hipster. you can probably find him in a bar somewhere drinking micro-brewed, crowd-funded, locally sourced craft ales. he knew about it before you did.
They did a gig in London, at the Fields Brewery - a little kitsch place for live music, beer and ale and so on - before the show I was having a pint and he sat next to me at the bar :)

they get the publicity and views based on how good they are. Personally i think they are a little slow and her voice does not have anything memorable or special about it and the chord progression was repetitive and kind of boring, and they're kind of just..slow?
Everyone one in their own but i can see why they are not that popular.
