This is how I use my FT-70DR. I like to use it at my office but I have no reception capabilities at all in my building. The solution was to use an affordable radio like the FR-70DR and a Zumspot hot spot. Both play well with each other and I am able to stay in touch at work. Thanks for the video.
And here I thought analog radio programming and operations were complicated. I was all set to buy a YSF radio this weekend but decided I would force myself to wait until at least Monday so that I could think about it. Sure glad I did and sure glad I saw this video before I ordered a YSF (or any digital) radio.
I think he did an excellent job explaining. I have a FTM 400XDR for home and a FTM 3200DR for the car. I was going to get the FT4D but local hams said the 70D is a solid radio specially for the price. I have a repeater in the area that I could connect To instead of using the PISTAR… but been thinking about a hotspot for when I went on the road / Vacation
Just set up my FT70D with Pi-Star 4.1.6 and it works perfectly as you have demonstrated and it retains the C1-C5 settings after power off/on cycle. Great video. Many thanks. 73 G3SNA
Thank you so much just got the ZUMspot RPi Elite 3.5 LCD after a struggle with it I remember your video because you help me with my old zumspot that I have for my dstar and I like my FT-70D and I like Fusion Thanks Again
Good video. But I find it easy to just use the program (RT System) and program in the YSF host I want to listen to in the pi-star like you showed.Yea it is a process getting into pi-star and changing the YSF host but I usually leave it on one host. Some of the things you did with the radio were eye opening. I will check out your other videos on the FT 70. Well done.
Would love to see a video on YSF2DMR crossmode using the FT70 with particular attention on how to navigate to different talk groups directly from the radio. Thanks and keep up the good work!
The complexity of the Yaesu radio interface and menus have made me stay away from the digital modes. I have never used System Fusion or D-Star. I do have a Yaesu-FT-70D and I recently got an icom ID-52A (much mush easier menu system). I'm building a Pi-Star hotspot right now and hopefully will play around with some digital modes soon. Thanks for your detailed guide.
I'm using a FT-70D now (as well a a Anytone 878) and this has been a useful 'shortcut' video to help get it linked to my Pi-Star. I've found that Pi-Star doesn't seem to like running DMR and YSF at the same time so I'm using a separate Pi Zero for YSF only and another for the Anytone radio. Hey Ho ... It works great though and thanks for the video. I've subscribed and hit the 'bell' thingy to be notified for anything else. From M0VXD, (York, UK)
That's a good point. I seem to see the same thing regarding DMR and YSF. Of course this was the cheapest MMDVM I could find. One day, I'll upgrade to a more expensive one and compare the two, side by side.. Thank You for your support!
Yesterday I got my Pi-Star working with my 5D. From what I saw in your demonstration I do not need to be constantly connected to may laptop and pistar interface to use WiresX. I do have the use of WiresX in Direct mode but don’t like having to be tethered to the computer.
Good job explaining that!!!! I been thinking about getting the 70 D.. Although I have a YSF repeater in the area i’ve been researching other ways of getting on air and also far was in another area. Like when I go down my mothers house she lives in North Carolina out in the country, I took my beofeng with me and couldn’t connect to any repeaters in analog so I can use that to get on there through my moms Wi-Fi. I’ve been wanting to get the 70 D because other local hams have it and say it’s a good radio solid for the price point. What do you think about the 70 D compared to the FT4D or FT5D?
Thank you for this video as well HRD. Saving this one as well. Am taking a break from my radio but will get it programmed tomorrow after my Wife and I get back from Church. KD9QAN signing off.
I’m thinking of getting an ft70 but cannot find out about the lack of * star button for example HUBNET is *55 and most allstar node numbers start with *3. Any ideas please
Great Video, got me up and running fast! Quick question, is it a radio setting or default setting of YSF rooms, there is a hella of annoying beep every time traffic comes in or stops while monitoring. Is there a way to turn that off? Keep up the good work!
@@HAMRADIODUDE Thanks, that's not it. But worth a try. I am beginning to think it is either a YSF room thing or my ZumSpot thing. I do not hear it in DMR mode on my Anytone and Moto radios. I only hear it on FT 300D and FT70D both of which I turned every beep I can find off. Cheers! Rick
My screen shows the hotspot I am connected to. At 7:54 in this video you spin the dial to get to the screen to enter the room number. How did you get to that screen/input?
How can I choose a UHF freq. from the 70cm spectrum which won’t interfere in my area for the hotspot? That’s the hardest part I am finding before starting setting up my new hotspot.
Hi: I have the Yaesu FT70D. I want to program thus radio using the specific software, but avery time that I connect the data cable I have this message "" INVALID COM SETTING"" How can I solve this issue? Thanks
At 7:42, after showing the node/room list, you say, "If you use the knob at top . . ." and when you turn it, the different node names appear. When I turn mine, it changes the memory selection. How do I get to where you are? Thanks
Interesting. It seems part of the video got cut out. On the main display, hit F and to then the ams button. This week connect to the "wires" pistart. From there you should be able to use the nob on the top like I was
Hi HRD, could you link me into the earlier video where you set up the Pi Star account. I am just with the FT-70D only, no Hotspot just yet. I guess you can register for a Pi Star account before hand?
th-cam.com/video/hbeo0gaQQns/w-d-xo.html this is a link to me showing how to setup pistar. The concept of the same into you get to configuring the pistar, which you would still it to fusion instead of dmr. I'll try to make a video specifically for c4fm here in the near future. Sorry for the confusion
At 7:45 you start flipping through rooms, but you never showed how you got into a mode that allowed room selection. When I turn the top knob, it selects between my channel memory locations. Can you give a hint regarding how to get into the mode that selects rooms?
I have watched this video a dozen or more times and I follow the instructions step by step.Yet my radio will not key my hotspot. Later in the video it shows changing rooms and then getting the asterisk and entering a reflector number. After setup if I turn the knob on top it just coes to a different channel. So, I am clearly missing something.
In your menu, can you confirm `W-DGID` in the menu it's set to `AUTO`? Does pistar not see this activity? I no longer have the radio, but hope this helps
im lost your videos are amazing i have a yaesu FT 70D and an Anytone AT878UV my pi-star dashboard is showing YSF i cannot use my anytone radio as i am still connected to wires x? when i hit the mode button TOO ROO comes up and the TOO flashes ? Help
To use the anytone, you'd want to configure the hotspot for dmr. I don't believe the hotspot could do both at the same time. Hopefully that's of some assistance
Hi, i'm IU8MLV and I have a problem with my FT70DE. I can't transit to MMDVM HOTSPOT. In reception, however, I receive. With my FTM 400, however, I have no problem receiving and transmitting. I set the radio to Simplex mode, then DN mode without AMS, then set WideFM, then set Half Dev to disabled mode, and channel bandwidth to 12.5Khz. But I can not in any way transit on the Hotspot.
