There is a Dutch guy who runs downhill biking tours from that mountain.
    It’s a good day out for all ages ! (13-75) 😂
When I have friends and families visiting we always participate. It makes a nice change from the Algarve beaches.
Super video Nick ! Utterly compelling content, super restaurant ideas.
Beautifully edited. Thanks to Chris too…

Hi Nick. Your videos are always so well done. Your many years of living there are obvious in the spontaneity of your information. Everything from scenery, food, personal interaction, shopping, history and culture. There is one problem though, everytime you do a new vid, I think, "Oh, I want to live there."

I also love to hike up to the Monastery ruin where you can walk inside and take a look at how they lived. The inner courtyard is wonderful and filled with chickens. The hike takes you through a cork tree "plantagen", gives you a chance to take a look at a harvest cork tree up close. Monchique is a wonderful little town.

Hi Nick, nice video. Will be in the Algarve in March as you've inspired me to explore my own country again. I have been in the Algarve twice, but for very short periods. I am the opposite of you, a Porra who has lived most of his life in South Africa, now working in the Netherlands. The pull of my ancestral roots are unbelievably strong and your videos aren't exactly making things easy for me either. Anyway, thanks for your amazing resource. Cheers, Victor.

  • @miguelcoelho3877

Interesting... I never knew about that (possible?) Arabic etymological root in the toponym "Monchique". This is odd, considering that "Mon" is the abbreviation of "Monte" or Hill; and Hill, in Arabic, is تل "Tal" (as in "Gibraltar").
I've always assumed that Monchique meant "Monte Chique", i.e., a place elegant people would visit -- because the thermal springs would attract a certain class of people -- people intent on the health benefits that one would acquire from visiting such a place, a notion that was quite fashionable in the early to mid-twentieth century.
