  • Bruce and Hill discussed what signs to look for when avoiding a problematic horse so it only makes sense to talk about what to look for in a potentially good working ranch horse.

I am looking to spending more time with Johnny not just for his life experience stories but for his knowledge about horse behavior and mentality in particular. He has an outstanding reputation for training horses and I want to find out what he knows first hand. As for Buster... well he passed away this past June 2019. All three of us are the same age but I think Buster hit the old fart stage long before Johnny and me. ha!

@@DustyReinsStories Well I'm 69 now, these men's minds need to be harvested for the knowledge that have gathered over the years. We need a sound from days gone by about how it was done, if for no other reason, to hang on to that way of life.

@@kirkmcknight113 I agree and the main reason why I have been collecting and archiving stories from old-timers from all walks of life since the mid-70s starting with audiotapes. Now I am doing the same with HD video so we can all benefit from expressions and body language as well. In most cases, I do not get permission and signed releases to publish on TH-cam. But I do get permission with releases to send the interviews to the Southwest Collection in Lubbock, Texas, the Research Center in Canyon, Texas or the US Library of Congress. Still working to get more of these stories for all to benefit from up on TH-cam. I have been getting many more contacts and exposure regarding my efforts this past summer. It will pay off I hope.

@@kirkmcknight113 You would be surprised to know how many interviews TH-cam will not let me publish due to descriptions about tragedies and hard times some of the people I interview have lived through. And yet they did survive and gained great character and appreciation for others who also experience circumstances today. Life is not always easy and there is plenty of folk today who do not understand what sacrifices others have made to make life easier for them. But then, only the wise will learn from others, right?

@@DustyReinsStories Well my friend, even though my vocation for yrs. was a oilfield welder I have worked on the oil side of almost every ranch in the Sundown, Whiteface ,Levelland areas. I was born and raised in Levelland. My dad knew all the men than ran most of the ranches in the area and hunted blues and bobwhite quail on all of them but the Mallet Land & Cattle Co. He always told me that the Mallet was no mans land when it came to hunting. I have worked up at Anton as well on the Elwood which is part of the Spade ranch as well. Actually as a youngster I really had no idea about the history I was standing on while working. Also on the Christine Devitt lease that was across the fence from the Slaughter Estates. The Devitt's were part of a big ranch family. Should have taken notes on the many videos I have seen to have a better record of families. Oh well my friend, I am enjoying your videos as they are a walk down memory lane, just on the other side of the fence and Thanks.
