  • Initially launched in 1956 as Plymouth’s first “muscle car”, by 1960 the Fury nameplate was applied to a much wider variety of body styles. This 1960 Fury four door wears some of Chrysler Corporation’s tallest tail fins. But does it have a muscle car heart? Watch and see.

Exner's cars were very polarizing, it seems. You either loved them or hated them. I don't think I've ever encountered anyone who was ambivalent about them.
But he was very bold and what I'd call brave in his designs. He wasn't scared to be creative and push boundaries and that resulted in a series of cars which were very unique and unlike any others at the time and for me and many others, they are emblematic of the era in a way that no other cars were.
That's why I love them! I'm a child of the 60s and I remember cars like this very well.

Hi Steve, nice video! The automobile alternator introduced by Chrysler Corporation opened a brand new more efficient generator for 12 volt DC "direct current" automobile charging systems. The alternator produces AC "alternating current" which is much more efficient than direct current, because a alternating current generator is 1/2 the size and runs cooler than a direct current generator, it can be also robs less horsepower. The alternator produces alternating current on the inside, and then converts into direct current on the outside, by means of the diode plate or "rectifier" you might say. Alternator(s) are more reliable and last longer because they charge at less effort and run cooler, and are actually cheaper to produce then direct current generator(s) because a generator needs a rotating "commutator" that changes the current flow every 1/2 revolution, (on the inside) vs a alternator only needs a "rotor" that dose not to need to change the flow of current at all. A DC commutator, or DC rotor "you might say" must change direction of current flow (on the inside) to work, a AC rotor does not have to. The same thing pertains to a direct current motor vs a alternating current motor. AC "alternating current" is twice as efficient as DC "direct current" but not practical on a automobile and/or mobile equipment. Please reply. Dave...

Chrysler cars from the early 60's are my favorite. Especially the 1960 canted headlight models. But all Chrysler products from the 50's through the K car 80's are pretty good

Wow, really remember those herkin' emblems on the fins. So that's the car that had them🤔
And that steering wheel, super cool.👍

I got to take a 1960 Plymouth Fury Convertible for a brief drive at the Amelia Island Concours weekend in 2020. It was part of Hagerty Insurance’s “Ride and Drive”. It was really fun to cruise around. I think it had the “Poly 318” under it’s hood.

I love how they painted the cove white in front of the tire. Those fins are great.

I suspect there aren't very many or none of the 57 58 Plymouth fury left since the popularity of the Christine movie.
