    That Selby is doing awesome! I’m a chronic under waterer, so a self watering pot with a reservoir like that would probably be a must for me.

    Many thanks for this video and good luck with your division plant. The roots look good so she should do well. I recently picked up a Homalomena Purple Sword and I agree the watering is tricky. Homalomenas are so beautiful. Great video on their care and I appreciate all the good information you shared with us. Take care! 👌🪴🥰

    So happy to see someone sharing videos about the Selby. I've struggled with mine and it's down to just 4 leaves - definitely under watered when I first got it. I was considering putting it in water to try and just get some roots going - curious if you think that might be worth trying or if I should keep it in soil. It's got a pretty good well-draining mix and in a self-watering pot so I think it's staying well-watered now.

      @meowk5812 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I would suggest just keeping it in soil. I put mine in water and the leaves flopped over and it’s been several days and it still hasn’t perked up. Leaves are dying now. I’m going to put it back into soil cause it doesn’t seem to like the straight water. Hope it doesn’t die

      @@EverythingPlants I have it in soil with a bit of perlite. It's planted alone, I got it to fill in an area of my plant shelf that doesn't get high light. But, it's grown so much I have now had to move it down to be a floor plant, as it sprawls out quite a bit lol.
      How are the two selby's doing, did the propagation go well, and the self watering pot...

    Great division and repotting video!
    Only thing I might add is that when I divide plants, I try to remember to apply some anti-fungal powder to the broken stem or rhizome, just as a precaution against infection.
    I envy your gorgeous plant. Been on the lookout for any one of the three Homalomenas for several years, but still unavailable near me and I don’t do mail order for tropical plants. 🤷‍♂️

    I measured sunlight many times. At noon, it's over 10,000 foot candles. Sometimes can reach as high as 13,000 foot candles. And at around 6-7pm in the evening, it's around 3,000 foot candles. So I think direct sun would mean at least 3000 fc, not 1,000.

    • @EverythingPlants
      @EverythingPlants  หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@amandaamanda5398 this chart is just a general guideline.... There's varying factors of trees and what not in front of the window. So as a guideline, anything above a thousand foot candles is considered direct sunlight.... But I totally understand what you're saying and I agree

    Ah yeah, I have also found the soil dampness to be my main issue with this genus. I've got the camouflage and it may be beautiful but it is TINY. I hope to grow it big and strong like your Selby. Be careful with that type of self-watering pot. I had one that looked exactly the same and it quickly killed off a pretty awesome plant I'd had for years. Maybe I did something wrong, but I believe the water level indicator got stuck at a certain point and so even though the first couple inches of soil would eventually dry as usual, I was overwatering and the bottom ended up a soggy rotting mess. I was really excited to use the self-watering pot but I've never tried them again. (If anyone knows how to fix what went wrong for me, I'd be happy to hear it!)
    Thanks for your videos!

    • @EverythingPlants
      @EverythingPlants  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yikes...that is so unfortunate. Hopefully you didn't have a really expensive plant in there.
      I am not using the self watering feature, but only as a catch try when watering. That is definitely a good reminder if using a self water pot system. Thanks Nadya

    • @nadya6295
      @nadya6295 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@EverythingPlants No, it wasn't a super expensive plant; it was more that it was sad that it had been growing happily for years and then I killed it so suddenly. I'm sure you'll do better with using it as a catch tray instead of relying on the water indicator. Have a good day!

    I’m always curious why we want to split a beautiful plant like that. Is it because you prefer a smaller plant? Or, you really want to have 2 of them? Or…?
    Don’t get me wrong, GREAT CONTENT, especially since this plant is totally new to me. Propagating it seems very similar to the peace lily.

    • @EverythingPlants
      @EverythingPlants  ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Hey! I do it for the videos and my own learning about each specific plant. I want to learn how to it grows, multiplies and how we can grow them better indoors. It's also a way to control the size of a plant as we can always upsize due to space and other restrictions (pot size) Trust me if I wasn't filming videos I probably wouldn't be propagating as much as I do.
