Saeva dupka is a cave in northern Bulgaria near the village of Brestnitsa, Lovech Province. The cave has naturally formed 400 meters of corridors and 5 halls. The temperature varies from 7 C to 11 C inside. Saeva dupka was named after two brothers, Seyu and Sae, who used it as a hiding place during the Ottoman occupation of Bulgaria. Recent excavations have shown the cave was inhabited since Roman times. Saeva dupka is one of the 100 Tourist Sites of Bulgaria. The cave has hosted many choral music performances, thanks to the excellent acoustic conditions. The cave is absolutely stunning, and you can see why it’s earned the nickname the “underground pearl of Bulgaria”.
Parking is available, free and the walk from the parking lot to the caves takes about 5-10 minutes. We purchased family tickets for 15 leva or 7.5 euros.
Wait for 5-10 min. the group to begin before entering the cave. The cave is open from 9:00 AM to 7:00 PM (last visit 6:30 PM) in peak season (April to September) and from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM (last visit 4:30 PM) outside peak season. Don't forget to visit it!
