About the academy, if they produce a Saka every 4 or 5 seasons they are doing well, if they develop 1 or 2 "saleable assets" every year they're doing well. The fall out rate of academy players is massive. People moan that Arteta doesn't give opportunities but what if they simply aren't good enough. An example, he plays a youth player in the PL and loses a game, the fanbase would go into meltdown! Than we have the "play them in the cups" brigade, who forget that we have about 18or 19 senior players, so you have to give those who aren't starting regularly in the league, game time in the cups, but you also have those that criticise not playing youngsters who will also say we don't take the cups seriously enough, we'll you can't have both. The other scenario is fans saying why aren't we bringing them on in PL games that are done and dusted but in the next breath they say look how weak or bench is with all the youth players on it. You can't have both ways. This kid has obviously had his head turned by his agent for money as going to Man U as a young striker makes zero sense from a football perspective given they have Hojland and Zirkzee. Also worthy of mention is the fact the U17 and U19 euros are happening/ have happened this summer, he's represented Denmark at U17, if he's that good why isn't he in the higher age group? Ultimately there is talk that the club should demonstrate a pathway however I believe it's up to the player, if he good enough he will make his own pathway. You mentioned youth players who have moved on, Hutchinson to Chelsea, they didn't play him, he went on loan, Ipswich got promoted and bought him, would they have done it had they not? Walters to Luton in the Championship, Cozier Dubery to Brighton, none of them have actually gone to a level equal to or better than Arsenal, doesn't that suggest that ultimately they weren't good enough?

The two options that I'd like to see Arteta explore in regards to fitting Calafiori into the team, are as a defensive midfielder and being the long term successor to Partey, or re-jigging the defence to a 3 at the back system and having him and Saliba flanking Magalhaes.
I think we have to get out of the rigid mindset of players in positions. Arteta is developing a team that can play a type of "Total Football" where players move into different positions depending on who has the ball and where on the pitch it is. It's the in game position that matters. Also the most important thing is to not be predictable as that is the most difficult thing for the opposition to deal with. Things i expect to see this season- Timber overlapping Saka, White sweeping in front of CB's as a DCM, Martinelli coming narrower and pushing their RCB back, Odegaard and Rice pressing higher up the pitch, Havertz getting more assists than goals (+15) as Martinelli closer, Nwaneri to really grow into the team and become established by Xmas. We basically need 1st team players- where if one comes in for another we remain as strong. PS Regarding the academy- as we become a better club it becomes more difficult for them to get in the 1st team squad. That's just how it is at the top. The academy is basically a numbers game- you do not know if a 14-16 year old is going to make it no matter how good they look. Just look at youth team players that have left in the last 2 decades that we lamented at the time as we, as fans, thought they'd be world beaters......but then never really made it to the top. The academy's job is to maximise a players potential, give them a good grounding, and, if they are not good enough for Arsenal make them the best they can be at another level so others want to buy them. Some players peak at 16, some don't get really good till as late as 23. If the academy is profitable that is good for the club, if a player gets into the Arsenal squad say every 5 years thats a bonus.
Timber is benching Ben White for the rightback position, and Riccardo Calafiori is starting leftback. And if Arteta really wants to go crazy with the inverted backs, he could switch Timber and Calafiori positions, so when they invert or cut inside they can shoot with the natural foot. 🤯 I know the British and the White/Ramsdale fans wouldn't like to see Benny get benched, but sentiments aside, we need to go up another level - a much stronger, scarier, skillfully, balanced (in defence and attack) level. And that can only happen with Timber & Calafiori in the starting 11. Arteta can mix and do so much more with Timber and Riccardo Calafiori on the pitch at the same time.
Left back was 100% the priority this summer. A reminder we lost the tie against Bayern because of that position, we lost to Villa because of that position, we had about 5 left backs last season and personally only Zinchenko, Timber and Tomiyasu consistently played well there. We needed a guaranteed 1st choice next season. Kiwior was good in certain games but against the big boys like City and Bayern he completely fell apart, he worked really well against Liverpool to Sheffield United and then I felt afterwards he was the weak area in the team. Arsenal have I believe Arsenal have 8 clear guaranteed starters, Raya, White, Saliba, Gabriel, Rice, Ødegaard, Saka and Havertz. I think those guys will start 90-100% of our games next season. I think there are 3 positions that I worry about, 6, left back and wing. I'm a strong believer that Trossard is better at 9 than wing and should be played more in that position than on the wing

Tomi fully fit is too good to be a bench player, but accepts his role due to his injuries, so might work to Arsenal's advantage.
