- Doin' a top end overhaul on a Polaris Ranger RZR 800. Air filter maintainence is critical on these machines, otherwise you get what we have here, worn piston rings. Thanks for watchin'.

Just redid my 09 RZR 800 top end. This video was fantastic! Showed me how to rock it out like it's never been rocked before! Thanks DRay you're the freaking man
I have never worked on a motor of any vehicle before but I want you to know that your videos helped me so much and my RZR is in working order again. Thank You So Much!!
With that nice clean shop floor you'd have no problem finding a leak! Good job D-Ray!
I wish I lived closer to Arkansas so I could have a beer with D-Ray...what a cool dude.
Local shops were slammed and I didn't want to wait 4-5 weeks. Watching your series gave me the confidence to DIY. Informative and really well done. I should be starting it up this afternoon. I'll definitely be looking at your other vids.
Just wanted to say thank you brother. I just completed the top end overhaul on an 05 Sportsman 800 twin and this series of videos was invaluable. I probably wouldn't have even attempted the repair myself without folks like yourself sharing their knowledge on TH-cam.
D-Ray I watched this series on a very cold Michigan day. It was very informative and your presentation was excellent. I worked for AC Spark Plug for over thirty years and we put together a lot of training videos. Your attention to detail and relaxed presentation keeps a persons attention. Outstanding.
After watching your video I decided to tackle this myself. Just finished my second RZR 800 top end rebuild and followed your videos for both. Works like a charm. Thank you for such an informative series.
The best Video on the 800 that I have seen. Watch videos a lot as I work on my own machine, Thanks Much for your work.
Thanks for posing I found it VERY educational as it contains lots of little tips and tricks to make the job easier and to have it done right! Great job and one again thanks!
It was very interesting to watch you do all the work and explain all about it as you went along, Thanks
Ray, You did a good presentation and I learned alot. If you were closer, I would come to you for work that needed to be done. Thanks for doing this.
Thanks for the info. I just got a used RZR 800 and wasn't aware of the air filter issue, now I am cause of your video.
Thanks
Thanks D-Ray! The time you took to film and explain everything was extremely valuable to me. Much appreciated! Now to get this thing done!
I'm most likely never going to have to do this kind of job ever, but your videos are awesome to watch none-the-less, keep being cool dude!
Super video D-Ray, j'ai eu du plaisir à regarder les 5 épisodes. Les vues cameras et la qualité audio est top.
Merci pour tes conseils et les explications en details, c'est super.
Bonjour de Belgique😃😃✌✌
My 08 Rzr needs a top end and now that I've seen these videos I'm confident I can do it myself. Thanks so much D-Ray. Great Job on the videos.
Very helpful , I have been in the service business all my life. It is a great refresher. Love your clean and organized shop
Thanks ray for taking the time to doing all these videos. Very good and thorough. I used to work as a Honda mechanic and you did a great job explaining everything especially about leak testing your valves. A lot of people that diy look past that and and wonder why it runs like crap after a new tokens rebuild.
Thanks for th' kind words, I do appreciate it.
I just watched all 5 videos, EXCELLENT work....this was very informative and now I am confident to tear mine down for the forged pistons.....clean work and clean shop. Great job!
Very in depth video. Appears to cover everything for the do it at home guy. Impressive, Thanks.
Thanks man, yeah I'm about 50 mile north of Jax. Have a goodun'!
Thanks for the great informative step by step video. I did the whole rebuild on my 2013 rzr 800s. No issues.
Thankyou so much.
Thanks so much for this series. I learned a whole bunch of stuff...what I needed to know to keep myself out of trouble. Such as, the valves are hard faced so the cannot be ground. and, the hardchrome bores mean I'll be buying a cylinder/piston set. and gaskets. You did a very logical teardown and great tips on the injector wiring marking. So many things that could go wrong if one doesnt pay attention to detail
Thanks again
awesome video just bought a Polaris getting ready to rip it down in my shop.. work on cars and trucks all day figured I should be to do it myself.., got all the equipment.. your video gave me a good insight thank you
Awesome video. I'm in the process of rebuilding my rzr 800 right now. Picked it up cheap with a blown engine. thanks for the vids!
Watched all 5 videos. Thanks for taking the time to shoot this video. I'm pretty decent at working on cars and motorcycles, but you make everything seem so easy. I just purchased a rzr 800 that had the airtube pull away from the throttlebody and had been ran that way for quite a while apparently. Watching this series of video answered every single question I had. Awesome job my man! Thanks again.
Great series. Getting a noise out of the engine on my 08 Ranger and feel a little more confident about pulling the head to examine the connecting rod bearing play, checking the lifter wear etc.. Thanks!
Thanks bro, and yeah, I know you don't like the four wheelers, but that's 75% of my work, lol! I do love workin' on 2 wheelers, but them dang thangs just don't break down very often......lol!
Excellent videos. The quality work and pride you take in it is evident. Keep up the good work. Really enjoyed em. Be safe out there...
Great 5 part series. I'm screwing up the courage to top end my 08 RZR. These videos sure help.
Again, great video series. I wanted to pick your brain a bit. Just bought an 08 rzr 800 with 2200 miles, grandpa driven mostly in NY/PA, very clean well kept machine, doesn't appear to have been abused or trail ridden much, putt putt around private acreage from what I can see. I noticed the oil level was a little above full, and I have a decent amount of oil pouring out of breather tube into air filter box after 10 min ride. When I pop my air box open, oil pours out onto ground, enough to soak a shop rag completely. Machine doesn't appear to be burning any oil, though she hates to start after burping oil when warm. Obviously I'm gonna start by changing the oil to proper level, gonna change spark plugs, figured I'd check compression while I'm at it. I also purchased a replacement CNC machined breather cap for valve cover as I've heard the plastic ones have been noted to be problematic. I've read on forums that the two cylinders pounding away at same stroke does create a lot of crankcase pressure, is this oil blow by pretty commonly seen? Let me know what you think, maybe there's another check I may be missing.. also, what's your opinion of the big bore vs stock bore when replacing the cylinder jugs and pistons? Is that a worth while upgrade to go big bore if my rings end up being shot and I take the motor rebuild plunge 😜?
Thanks for the great video series. Thanks for taking the time to make them. Much appreciated!!!!
Awesome series on the RZR. Love watching your work and especially the music with the videos. I lived in Jacksonville Arkansas while stationed @ LRAFB in mid eighties. Pretty part of country. Keep up the awesome videos.
Thank you D-Ray. Good stuff. Now I have work to do on my RZR 800.
Nice camera work. Sound, lighting, focus and editing was very professional. Your shop is spotless and I appreciate you sharing your knowledge. Well done.
Best video I have watched. New to Polaris. Because of your video I will tackle the top end overhaul. Thanks 😁a lot.
I wish you still made videos D -ray please start again
Excellent vids on the Top End Overhaul of the Polaris 800. I really appreciate your time and effort in making awesome instructional videos.
Nicely done. Felt a lot more confident during the overhaul watching your video
thanks very informative, glad you mentioned you can not bore the cylinder. would have liked to see how you removed the carbon
buildup on valves.
Thanks for taking the time with the video. Great job !!!
I've had a few dr650's in the past and they are pretty much bullet proof, if its blowing oil into the air box and the oil level is correct, you may have excessive blow by on the piston rings.
THANKS FOR THE HELP NOW THE TOP END MAKES SENSE......
Great Video D-Ray! i binge watched this entire series and learned quite a bit...Thanks
Detailed videos, very helpful!
Seeing this video and looking at how clean your shop is I can tell you take pride in what you do. Great job👍
Hey D-Ray, man you did an awesome job! I have been looking into buying a 900 polaris rzr. After seeing the video I wouldn't be one bit scared to refresh the top end on one of these machines. Great video!!!!
Just finished this job on my RZR 800. Your video was invaluable to me. Only comment - I wish you had shown a little more about how to get the wrist pin keepers installed, That was tricky for sure. Started on the first click of the key and runs like a top. Thanks so much!
Yeah those circlips are a pain in the ass. Did you reuse your old head bolts or buy new ones?
Best TH-cam channel I’ve discovered this year!
Excellent video, Great to see the Job completed! Your are a very good Instructor!
Thanks
Thanks for the good videos on this. I know you posted this a while ago but it sure had help me in 2022.
If I had that shop, I'd be the same way!
I really appreciate the video's you make, you are helping a lot of people, the quality and detail level is excellent. I would pay for video's of this quality, you should considering making dvd's or a video course. Thanks for all your efforts - great stuff.
DRay you do have a nice shop. Thanks again for another great series!!

Perfect explination of how to do it all. Thank you
Nice and clean, precise and well instructed. You do know your stuff !! Thanks
Always enjoy watching your series mate, goodjob
Excellent Video and well worth the watch, having trouble with my 2013 800 and this will definitely help..Cheers
Ray i watched all 5 of your vids i have the same model as you are working on in the vid and has had a bad oil consumption problem only i found that the vent hose for crank case ventilation had a split in the line im hoping it didnt get dirt exposure like that but im not being very optimistic at this point so i changed out the hose and cleaned up the air box and oil changed it and new air filter and spark plugs and will take it out for a run and see what happens .ive never been into a polaris motor before but looks pretty straight fwd im old school like you and share all the same techniques you do i started out back when i was a kid working on motorcycles and small engines i see the polaris has little differences of what i can see of bike engines great vid keep up the great work thanks for the good info Bill in Nevada
great job keep it up hope to see more from you soon.In the middle of rebuilding my 83' 200e big red learned a lot from your other videos.
Thanks man! Yeah, I'm kinda ocd bout havin' a clean shop, lol!
Excellent series.... I really enjoyed it.... how about a small 2 stroke rebuild that would be cool like a sears gamefisher outboard or something...
loved it, have two 800 needing work. Now I don't feel like I have to take em to the dealer. thanks and have a happy christmas
Thanks D Ray. I'm about to open up a can of XP900 ''whooped ass too long on some Maverick's'' and I'm pretty sure I have some ring issues.
About ready to do my 700 ranger, your video made me think I can do it, great video thanks
Thanks for the tips in this video they are very helpful as new rzr owner.
Great video. Thanks for sharing your expertise with us.
Excellent presentation 👍
Very well done series of videos. This may be in my future as I have a ‘14 800S with 5,400 miles. It has been a great machine and I’m aware of the inferior air intake design.
great videos D-Ray...learn lots every time I watch one...very quality video job and verbal instruction also!
Fantastic work! This is without a doubt one of the best videos.
I like that sound too! Thanks.
Really enjoyed the series. I hope that it will be awhile until I need to do this, but I feel that I could do it now that I have seen your vids. Keep it up! Thanks

A great video to learn from. Detailed and very well done. Thanks!!!
I really enjoyed watching this and I think I now might even be able to repair the top end myself. I'm assuming you don't have to adjust the vials on it. Thinks for showing the steps on how to do this. Great Job!!!!!
