They will return to each other one day, the time apart with be scary and confusing but that is just another part of changing. As the song continues the lyrics changed to "Ay, mariposas, no se aguanten más" which means "Ay butterflies, don't hold on anymore" Even now continuing to encourage them to grow apart and move forward. Even though truly I believe this song has not one true meaning for this relationship can be applied in many situations. The song encourages self-growth as well as making room for your loved ones to grow, change will happen and it's better to grow with it than try to hold on and be crushed.
