UFC gave him a career, his coaches/him fucked up having the belt by kneeing c-list actor Aljamain Sterling then he got robbed by the judges in the O'Malley fight and got absolutely demolished by Merab "ceo of epo" Dvalishvili. It's a very weird take to say the UFC robbed him of his career. He's also on 2-fight win streak and I'm sure Yan will bounce back cause he's a phenomenal fighter as was shown again in the Figueiredo fight. Hope to see Suga vs Yan II in 2025, seems like a very obvious fight to make.
They gave round 1 to omalley for the flurry at the end ig. Didn't seem like a robbery, watching live I knew it could go either way but honestly did not feel like the right man won
See I felt the exact opposite. I watched it originally and was like... Yan won that, bad decision in rewatching it: Rd1: Sean edged Yan out, it was minor, but he had WAY more strikes, those jabs add up. Rd2: Clear Yan win Rd3: Damage done clearly on Sean's side. Takedowns for Yan, but he didn't do meaningful damage with it. Sean and him traded well, but Sean ended with the most strikes and most damaging strikes by a fairly wide margin. Sean barely wins 3. Two major additional points. Yan had a few big hits because he swings so wide and so hard when he does land it looks bad, but Sean almost always shrugs it off (with one exception). Sean hit him so many times with that jab, and although it doesnt look like much it adds up. Thats why Yan's face exploded. Blood rushing to his face because of the hemoragging from the jab. You can see at the end his face is swollen af. If this had gone 5 Yan would have been knocked out for sure, he was becoming more desperate with wild haymakers in rd 3, taking Sean down and doing nothing with it damage-wise. Someone said up top - fortunately the lay and pray is dead in UFC. If you take someone down and do jack shit with it it doesnt matter as much as before. Close fight either way, but watching it months out now I can see a minor Sean edge.
The last time i watched this fight i saw sean winning 1 and 3 but on rewatch i feel like yan landed slightly more significant and damaging strikes in the third even though he got cut by the knee, but its definitely not a robbery. Super close fight
Round 1: either way round 2:yan round 3: close but they were both landing good exchanges and Omalley cut him open bad, yea yan landed takedowns but Sean got up within 20 seconds of him being down takedowns don’t matter as much if you don’t have control time

I mean, Sean started round 2 strong and hurt Yan badly. It's just that for some weird reason the normally very mobile Sean just stood in front of Yan like a statue and got hit hard badly which turned that round and ultimately had Yan clearly win it. But Sean clearly won round 3 and round 1 was close and it seems no one can for sure call a winner in round 1 which is exactly why it's such a controversial decision but never a robbery it's way too close for that.
Even when he ate the knee and the 8 significant punches apart from his with 3 significant punches landed and takedowns which he did nothing with. Dude was point fighting and let it go to the judges cause he wasn't confident in his striking. Why was it even that close on paper? This just makes the second fight that much more interesting

@@bluiii O’Malley definitely got better, but Petr Yan is a different beast, you have to worry about multiple things with him, which O’Malley is going have a hard time with. Plus in the fight with chito, the only time Vera had any success was when he went forward in round 4. Yan will go forward no matter what. Even with yans most recent fight he broke down song with like 3 different injuries in just three rounds

i dont think this was this bad i thinks its easily 1-1 going into 3rd and its mad close but i thnik omalley was destroying on the feet first half of the round and got up from takedown and the last one was bc omalley went for it yan didnt its just if u think takedowns matter more or not
I've watched this 3 times... the last being very attentive to actual strikes, damage, control, aggressiveness... Petr wins every time. More take-downs, more damaging strikes, more control, more aggressive... I like Sean as a fighter, but is sure looks like he was given this win to keep his star rising.
The thing is look at where they’re at now. O’Malley is the champ and just defended his belt, while Peter is fighting to just get back into contention after losing 2 fights. There’s reasoning behind this decision and as they say “ball don’t lie”

Явное ограбление. Вообше никакого преимущества О Мэлли не было , только сечка и один раз потряс и то без нокдауна даже. Весь бой Петр и гонял его и валял, хоть и очень близкий был, но точно победой сахарка не тянет. Просто вели к титулу
второй да, вот первый хз, по мне так сложно оценить, мне в первом больше о`мэлли понравился: ударка у него видно почище чем у яна, а также показал что не просто так имеет черный пояс по бжж и тейкдауны делал и защита в гарде хороша.

I was watching in a sports bar in Arizona with a bunch of O’Malley fans. In was on mute so we couldn’t hear the commentary. Everyone thought Yan won and some ppl even started leaving the bar before the decision. When O’Malley got his hand raised people were shocked. I’m indifferent but I definitely thought Yan had it.

They were ranked #1 Petr Yan, #11 Sean O'Malley. Sean was probably gifted his rise to the belt easily because of this win. Still, you can't discredit how great he is.
This fight was a couple years ago, and I still don't understand how Petr didn't get the win. Anyone who says this isn't a robbery simply didn't watch the fight or is a Suga fanboy.

It's not the UFC it's the judges, and those are picked by the athletic commission not the UFC. The UFC doesn't control the decisions or the people making them, the athletic commission does.
I like rewatching this fight. My mind has flipped back and forth a bit, but I'm really leaning towards Peter. Magnificent fight from Sean though, boy probably learned a lot from this fight.

After rewatching i gave round 2 and 3 to Yan. Round 2 was a clear Yan round. Round 3 Sean landed 2 big knees and a head kick, but Yan landed 5 big counter punches that rocked and snapped Sean's head like a pinball. Sean had more sig strikes in round 3 than Yan, but Yan cracked and bright as day hurt Omalley more times so that and the takedowns made it a clear Yan round. Even the knees Sean landed in round 3 didnt get a visible reaction out of Yan despite slicing Yan open badly. Round 1 was the closest round and the only round I gave to Sean, but an argument could be made for Yan winning the round since he had more sig strikes and the damage or lack thereof was pretty even. Round 2 and round 3 were similar in the sense that Omalley hurt Petr only for Petr to return fire and hurt Omalley more and worse. Overall i'd say this shouldve been a decisive Yan victory. A competitive fight, but a clear winner.
Idk man I think round 1 is clearly Sean 2 is clearly yan and Sean barely wins in round 3, he was active the whole round he was constantly landing jabs on Petr and splitting his guard with the right hand. Yan had 3 big counters and he had some takedowns but the only time he did any damage to suga on the ground in round 3 was in the last 10 seconds, so yeah tbh I feel like what wins Sean the fight was when he cut petr then kicked him if u look close yan was hurt bad he dove for the legs instantly when he got kicked so yeah I have it 29-28 suga
Very clear win for Yan. I would say it's more likely Yan wins 30-27 than Sean wins at all. Yan consistently landed more heavy impactful shots while Sean landed a bunch of pot shots, and remember, its the reaction to shots that you're supposed to score on. Sean landed nothing of significance in the first, a few good shots in the second but Petr outdid him clearly, and the knee and a half blocked head kick in the third. Cuts do not equal concussive damage, whoever brings their opponent closer to being finished, and you saw Sean's legs go wobbly quite a few times in the third. If you wanna score the cut heavily then you can say striking effectiveness is equal, OK, then the effective grappling and ground and pound push Yan ahead in the third. If cuts meant that much then Nate Diaz never won a decision.

Пересматриваю второй раз бой и ещё больше убедился , что Пётр его выиграл . Были неплохие моменты у Шона , но по общей картине боя , в основном пробегал и провалялся снизу .

At first, I wasn't sure how O'Malley won this fight, but after watching back rounds 1 and 3 you can see where the Judges were able to give him the victory. In the 1st round, he was much more active and stopped a takedown, and was taken down once. O'Malley was much more active at throwing strikes in the first half of round 1 and making Yan miss a lot of strikes due to O'Malley's faints. Which was a key factor in O'Malley's success in the first half of the 1st round. Aswell the small takedown at the end of the first was good enough. Yan's takedown in the 1st was a clean takedown but he didn't really do any damage or anything significant with it. Which after a few seconds later O'Malley got up from it. As well in the third round,d O'Malley squeezed it out. But maybe Yan won it. It was for sure a great fight I can see how Yan won the fight as well. I think a rematch between O'Malley and Yan would be sick and the winner fights the winner of Merab vs Umar. Thoughts?
One of the best MMA fights I ever saw...Yan was still 135 champ walking in (no one ever beat him) and he walked out of this ring STILL the de facto champ...
Wonderful story. Not even remotely true though. Yan had already fought Aljo again before this fight and lost (again). He was in the middle of losing 4 of 5 here, and he hasn't finished a fight in over 4 years. Isn't even remotely in the title discussion today.

Шон невероятно спасался от тейкдаунов, а Петр явно поднял скилл в ударке, так четко и красиво ловить в контрударах. Удачи и здоровья обоим бойцам.

Я смотрю ММА уже 20 лет . Пётр Ян шел вперёд всё время, ронял Шона на пол как куклу, почти нокаутировал чистым ударом в подбородок.Ян выиграл бой 100 процентов. Коррумпированные судьи в UFC -вот в чём проблема.
I remember some people telling me that Yan did no damage on the ground… in the second round he did a lot of damage. His ground and pound got through and landed. At one point, suga grabbed his gloves when they were up on the fence.
You should rewatch the fight and pay attention to what Sean is doing. He fouls at least 20 times in this. Constantly grabbing the fence to prevent takedowns, constantly has his fingers in Yan's gloves, even eye pokes Yan in the second. Herzog just stands and watches him do it, then cries at Yan for having his fingers forward 2 or 3 times when reaching for Sean's gloves. Sean should have lost this fight, and he should have lost at least one point for all the fouls too.
He DID do no damage on the ground, and didn't keep Sean down either . . . Except for round 2. Round 2 was clearly Yan's round though, so his performance there isn't really in question. The third round was Sean's, so it just depends on how you score round 1. Personally I don't value Yan's takedown in R1 much as he didn't do much with it, and I felt Sean did enough on his feet to take it. It was incredibly close though.

I really like both guys but Petr Yan won that fight!!!! I've been rooting for Yan for a long time now and I wish that Yan would still be up at the top and Yan still has the chance to be champion and Dustin the diamond still has a chance to be champion as well. I really really like DP and Yan but don't get me wrong I like a whole lot more fighters than that but DP is my favorite and Yan is my second favorite fighter

UFC gave him a career, his coaches/him fucked up having the belt by kneeing c-list actor Aljamain Sterling then he got robbed by the judges in the O'Malley fight and got absolutely demolished by Merab "ceo of epo" Dvalishvili. It's a very weird take to say the UFC robbed him of his career. He's also on 2-fight win streak and I'm sure Yan will bounce back cause he's a phenomenal fighter as was shown again in the Figueiredo fight. Hope to see Suga vs Yan II in 2025, seems like a very obvious fight to make.

See I felt the exact opposite. I watched it originally and was like... Yan won that, bad decision in rewatching it:
Rd1: Sean edged Yan out, it was minor, but he had WAY more strikes, those jabs add up.
Rd2: Clear Yan win
Rd3: Damage done clearly on Sean's side. Takedowns for Yan, but he didn't do meaningful damage with it. Sean and him traded well, but Sean ended with the most strikes and most damaging strikes by a fairly wide margin. Sean barely wins 3.
Two major additional points. Yan had a few big hits because he swings so wide and so hard when he does land it looks bad, but Sean almost always shrugs it off (with one exception). Sean hit him so many times with that jab, and although it doesnt look like much it adds up. Thats why Yan's face exploded. Blood rushing to his face because of the hemoragging from the jab. You can see at the end his face is swollen af. If this had gone 5 Yan would have been knocked out for sure, he was becoming more desperate with wild haymakers in rd 3, taking Sean down and doing nothing with it damage-wise. Someone said up top - fortunately the lay and pray is dead in UFC. If you take someone down and do jack shit with it it doesnt matter as much as before.
Close fight either way, but watching it months out now I can see a minor Sean edge.

I mean, Sean started round 2 strong and hurt Yan badly. It's just that for some weird reason the normally very mobile Sean just stood in front of Yan like a statue and got hit hard badly which turned that round and ultimately had Yan clearly win it. But Sean clearly won round 3 and round 1 was close and it seems no one can for sure call a winner in round 1 which is exactly why it's such a controversial decision but never a robbery it's way too close for that.
Even when he ate the knee and the 8 significant punches apart from his with 3 significant punches landed and takedowns which he did nothing with. Dude was point fighting and let it go to the judges cause he wasn't confident in his striking. Why was it even that close on paper? This just makes the second fight that much more interesting

Plus in the fight with chito, the only time Vera had any success was when he went forward in round 4. Yan will go forward no matter what. Even with yans most recent fight he broke down song with like 3 different injuries in just three rounds

I've watched this 3 times... the last being very attentive to actual strikes, damage, control, aggressiveness... Petr wins every time. More take-downs, more damaging strikes, more control, more aggressive... I like Sean as a fighter, but is sure looks like he was given this win to keep his star rising.
The thing is look at where they’re at now. O’Malley is the champ and just defended his belt, while Peter is fighting to just get back into contention after losing 2 fights. There’s reasoning behind this decision and as they say “ball don’t lie”

сегодня полностью посмотрел, ранее не видел, только фрагменты, особенно часто с сечкой и даже было склонятся, что Ян не потянул.
Сейчас солидарен с тем, что судьи смотрели другой бой. Явное ограбление. Вообше никакого преимущества О Мэлли не было , только сечка и один раз потряс и то без нокдауна даже.

It's not the UFC it's the judges, and those are picked by the athletic commission not the UFC. The UFC doesn't control the decisions or the people making them, the athletic commission does.

After rewatching i gave round 2 and 3 to Yan. Round 2 was a clear Yan round. Round 3 Sean landed 2 big knees and a head kick, but Yan landed 5 big counter punches that rocked and snapped Sean's head like a pinball. Sean had more sig strikes in round 3 than Yan, but Yan cracked and bright as day hurt Omalley more times so that and the takedowns made it a clear Yan round. Even the knees Sean landed in round 3 didnt get a visible reaction out of Yan despite slicing Yan open badly. Round 1 was the closest round and the only round I gave to Sean, but an argument could be made for Yan winning the round since he had more sig strikes and the damage or lack thereof was pretty even. Round 2 and round 3 were similar in the sense that Omalley hurt Petr only for Petr to return fire and hurt Omalley more and worse. Overall i'd say this shouldve been a decisive Yan victory. A competitive fight, but a clear winner.

Yan had 3 big counters and he had some takedowns but the only time he did any damage to suga on the ground in round 3 was in the last 10 seconds, so yeah tbh I feel like what wins Sean the fight was when he cut petr then kicked him if u look close yan was hurt bad he dove for the legs instantly when he got kicked so yeah I have it 29-28 suga

Very clear win for Yan. I would say it's more likely Yan wins 30-27 than Sean wins at all. Yan consistently landed more heavy impactful shots while Sean landed a bunch of pot shots, and remember, its the reaction to shots that you're supposed to score on. Sean landed nothing of significance in the first, a few good shots in the second but Petr outdid him clearly, and the knee and a half blocked head kick in the third. Cuts do not equal concussive damage, whoever brings their opponent closer to being finished, and you saw Sean's legs go wobbly quite a few times in the third. If you wanna score the cut heavily then you can say striking effectiveness is equal, OK, then the effective grappling and ground and pound push Yan ahead in the third. If cuts meant that much then Nate Diaz never won a decision.

9:46 - the strike metrics in round 2 show a steep difference in favor of Yan, which didn’t change much as the fight progressed. Purely by striking stats I don’t see how Yan wasn’t recognized as the clear winner. Not sure which fight the judges watched.

Пересматриваю второй раз бой и ещё больше убедился , что Пётр его выиграл . Были неплохие моменты у Шона , но по общей картине боя , в основном пробегал и провалялся снизу .

At first, I wasn't sure how O'Malley won this fight, but after watching back rounds 1 and 3 you can see where the Judges were able to give him the victory. In the 1st round, he was much more active and stopped a takedown, and was taken down once. O'Malley was much more active at throwing strikes in the first half of round 1 and making Yan miss a lot of strikes due to O'Malley's faints. Which was a key factor in O'Malley's success in the first half of the 1st round. Aswell the small takedown at the end of the first was good enough. Yan's takedown in the 1st was a clean takedown but he didn't really do any damage or anything significant with it. Which after a few seconds later O'Malley got up from it. As well in the third round,d O'Malley squeezed it out. But maybe Yan won it. It was for sure a great fight I can see how Yan won the fight as well. I think a rematch between O'Malley and Yan would be sick and the winner fights the winner of Merab vs Umar. Thoughts?

One of the best MMA fights I ever saw...Yan was still 135 champ walking in (no one ever beat him) and he walked out of this ring STILL the de facto champ...
Wonderful story. Not even remotely true though. Yan had already fought Aljo again before this fight and lost (again). He was in the middle of losing 4 of 5 here, and he hasn't finished a fight in over 4 years. Isn't even remotely in the title discussion today.

Первые два раунда Петр забрал чисто, 3-й спорный. Да не справедливо. Но к Шону не испытаваю никакого негатива. Бойцы показали великолепный, очень техничный бой. Шон невероятно спасался от тейкдаунов, а Петр явно поднял скилл в ударке, так четко и красиво ловить в контрударах. Удачи и здоровья обоим бойцам.

Я смотрю ММА уже 20 лет . Пётр Ян шел вперёд всё время, ронял Шона на пол как куклу, почти нокаутировал чистым ударом в подбородок.Ян выиграл бой 100 процентов. Коррумпированные судьи в UFC -вот в чём проблема.
I remember some people telling me that Yan did no damage on the ground… in the second round he did a lot of damage. His ground and pound got through and landed. At one point, suga grabbed his gloves when they were up on the fence.
Peter poked Sean's eyes a few good times and had them out which deterred Sean alot. Both fighters got calls
If you watch any fight ever, if you watch closely, every single fighter bends the rules at some point in the fight. It happens.
You should rewatch the fight and pay attention to what Sean is doing. He fouls at least 20 times in this. Constantly grabbing the fence to prevent takedowns, constantly has his fingers in Yan's gloves, even eye pokes Yan in the second. Herzog just stands and watches him do it, then cries at Yan for having his fingers forward 2 or 3 times when reaching for Sean's gloves.
Sean should have lost this fight, and he should have lost at least one point for all the fouls too.
He DID do no damage on the ground, and didn't keep Sean down either . . . Except for round 2. Round 2 was clearly Yan's round though, so his performance there isn't really in question. The third round was Sean's, so it just depends on how you score round 1. Personally I don't value Yan's takedown in R1 much as he didn't do much with it, and I felt Sean did enough on his feet to take it. It was incredibly close though.

I really like both guys but Petr Yan won that fight!!!! I've been rooting for Yan for a long time now and I wish that Yan would still be up at the top and Yan still has the chance to be champion and Dustin the diamond still has a chance to be champion as well. I really really like DP and Yan but don't get me wrong I like a whole lot more fighters than that but DP is my favorite and Yan is my second favorite fighter
