  • Bull elephants Sattao, Dololo and Musiara, all rescued as orphans by the Sheldrick Trust, have reached a milestone moment. They have outgrown the Nairobi Nursery and this video features their move, on Sunday 17th May 2020, to the SWT's Ithumba Reintegration Unit, where they will commence the next stage in their journey back to the wild.
Read the full move story at ▶ www.sheldrickw...
Established in 1977, the Sheldrick Wildlife Trust (SWT) operates the world’s most successful orphan elephant rescue and rehabilitation program, rescuing and hand-rearing orphaned elephants and other animals that have lost their mothers, all too often as a result of human activity. But we do much more than this. Through our Aerial, Anti-Poaching and Mobile Veterinary Units, we safeguard the natural environment and provide immediate assistance to wild animals in need. We also secure irreplaceable wilderness areas so that animals will always have space to roam and work with local partners and communities to ensure people and wildlife can live alongside one another.

This must be so bittersweet for the keepers who have lovingly cared for and protected these precious little ones. You are heroes.

It's definitely a bittersweet moment for many of our Keepers who have raised these babies since early infancy but any wistful feelings surrounding their departure from the Nursery are always superseded by an overwhelming sense of joy and pride in seeing how far they have come, as each one has beaten the odds that were initially stacked against them.

It blows me away how the infant mortality rate in Kenya is absolutely horrible for this day and age , yet no expense is spared mostly by wealthy white people from Europe or the US on saving these baby elephants. I wonder why we turn our backs to the needs of the human children in this country who also have been orphaned and tramautized like it doesn't matter, but God forbid anything happens to one of these beasts? Are we really living in a reality where the lives of animals is of more importance than human beings? It's absolutely disgusting but the numbers don't lie, and it's shameful.

@@cloverdunn2951 that's a really mean spirited thing to say and a load of baseless assumptions. You have absolutely no idea how I spend my money- I committed to sponsor a little girl from an African country so she could stay in education long before I sponsored a baby elephant. I also donate whenever I can to humanitarian charities. It is entirely possible to care about animals in addition to people, it's not either or. In addition, the DSWT isn't just helping elephants. It has employed people from local communities, which directly benefits their families.
Weird you assume I'm white though. Becky Sharp is a character in a novel..

It’s great to see how far Dololo has come. He was bound and determined to trust no one - not people, not other elephants. Gradually, that little traumatized heart opened up when he realized there was nothing but love whichever way he turned.

I remember watching their rescue videos not too long ago when they were little calves. Now with TLC they've grown into precious bundles of joy. Thanks to your institution and your endless efforts to bravely save God's gifts so they can live the life they were meant to. Thank you for the hope you give, the unconditional love you provide. You take care of these special babies like they're your own. Love and respect from Hoboken NJ 🇺🇸

My thoughts are with all the keepers and staff members in the nursery. It must be very heart warming but also heart breaking moment for them all...their babies are going away to start a new life and to become wild again.....mixed emotions for sure! I am quite new to Sheldrick....catching up with all the videos....and am fostering two babies ..:-)...Ziwadi and Bondeni..:-)).....

I LOVE your videos, but you really could do a lot of people a favor by leaving the captions on for 15 seconds instead of 10, especially the longer ones. Yes, we can stop the vid to read it, but it kind of takes some of the fun out of it.

I wonder do any of you stop to think about the poor and starving children of this country? It seems no expense is spared on these animals but what about the many human souls that perish before their 10th birthday in this country (about 60%). Because they lack basic neccities like clean water and food and vaccines Meanwhile these animals get a private plane ride to a nursery.. Human being grow up to be grateful, productive and give back to their community. What do these elephants offer you for the future? I know they are cute when they are babies but they do grow up to require an enormous amount of food and water, all for 1/2 of the habitat to supply in the future? Can anyone else see the train wreck In about 5-10 years from all these " rescues"? I know you mean well, I question your priorities.
