    From the composer:
Jubilate Deo portrays the global aspect of the traditional Psalm 100 text, “O be joyful in the Lord, all ye lands,” by setting it in seven different languages and drawing from a wide spectrum of musical influences. Each movement combines some characteristics of its language-group’s musical culture with the composer’s own musical language. The opening movement sets the ancient liturgical Latin translation of the Psalm in a rather American musical idiom and introduces key musical motives for the work. The second movement sets the “from age to age” portion of the text in Hebrew and Arabic, evoking ancient cultures from the Middle East. The music intentionally intertwines the two languages in a symbolic gesture of unity between these cultures. Movement three, in Mandarin Chinese, is a tranquil setting of the shepherd-sheep metaphor from Psalm 100 and quotes “the Lord is my shepherd” from Psalm 23. The orchestra evokes the sounds of traditional Asian instruments. The fourth movement sets celebratory portions of the text in Zulu and draws from African vocal and drumming traditions. Movement five represents Latin America, setting Spanish text to a folk-song style melody and blending traditional folk instrumental sounds with imitative textures. The sixth movement, “Song of the Earth,” portrays the Earth itself singing-first wordlessly, but eventually finding its own voice- and leads seamlessly into the final movement. The finale unites many of the key themes and cultures from previous movements with other material, both old and new, as all the earth sings as one, “omnis terra, jubilate!”
    Dan Forrest
    1. Jubilate Deo… - 0:50
O be joyful in the Lord, all ye lands: serve the Lord with gladness, and come before his presence with a song. Be ye sure that the Lord he is God; it is he that hath made us, and not we ourselves; we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture. O go your way into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise; be thankful unto him, and speak good of his name. For the Lord is gracious, his mercy is everlasting; and his truth endureth from generation to generation. (Psalm 100, Latin Vulgate)
    2. Ve adthdor vador (From age to age) - 9:40
Bless his name. For the Lord is gracious, his mercy is everlasting, and his truth endures from age to age. (From Psalm 100:4-5, Hebrew and Arabic)
    3. Ta cao chang de yang (The sheep of his pasture) - 18:35
It is he that has made us, and not we ourselves; we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture. The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want. (From Psalms 100:3 and 23:1, Mandarin Chinese)
    4. Ngokujabula! (With great rejoicing!) - 27:15
Shout with triumph to the Lord, all the earth! Serve the Lord with joy, come before his presence with singing. Know that the Lord is God! (From Psalm 100:1-3, Zulu)
    5. Bendecid su nombre (Bless his name) - 32:27
Enter his gates with thanksgiving, his courts with praise. Be thankful, and bless his name. (Psalm 100:4, Spanish)
    6. Song of the Earth - 39:28
Alleluia. (Praise Jehovah - nearly universal transliteration)
    7. ...Omnis Terra! - 44:56
Sing for joy, dance in gladness, shout for joy, all the earth!
    (Adapted from various English translations)
Commissioned by Henry Leck for the Indianapolis Children’s Choirs, Jubilate Deo was premiered in April 2016 and is Dan Forrest’s largest work to date. The work will receive its Carnegie Hall premiere in March 2017.

In America 2020, where there has been much tension in discussions on race, the ancient Psalm lifts us beyond individual people groups to "all the earth". No matter your nationality, tribal identity, or ethnic group, it is possible to enter His gates and into His courts. Thank you. We make a joyful shout to YHWH.

Except that "all the earth" doesn't share your views about religion, so it's hardly a thing to unite us all. It divides us more than it unites. But people of all religions, or even none at all, can unite in appreciating the art and joy of a wonderful piece of music such as this one.

Thanks to Dan for writing such compelling music for us as musicians to academically strive for but spiritually to exalt our God with! I loved every minute of this journey and am thrilled that others get to experience the nations and creation praising our God!

I had the honor of singing this work for the Carnage Hall premiere in NYC this year where I got to meet the composer, who actually accompanied us on piano one of the last days of rehearsal, and Dr. Henry Leck conducted us. It was such an unreal, practically ethereal moment for me as a college student. I was also a soprano solo for the second movement in the East Tennessee premiere. I am blessed by God beyond words can explain.

I have become a big fan of anything Dan Forrest does and this recording reaches in and yearns for a place to settle in your heart and soul. It assures me that sacred music will always keep alive the joy and hope we have for mankind but it deepens our Faith. During this pandemic, we all need to return to the music and spoken word inspired by the new and old testament. This recording by the Rivertree Singers and Friends is electrifying and emotional. Thank you Rivertree and Dan Forrest!

Rythm is the next frontier of classical music. Composers of the 19th-20th centuries got everything out of harmony and chromaticism that they could, all the way to breaking point with atonality. But percussion and rythm still have so much to offer, Walton's work is prophetic (Belshazaar's Feast espescially). Very exiting times!

If anyone unfamiliar with Dan Forrest's work heard Requiem For The Living and thought it was a fluke, this composition permanently puts any such notion to rest. And as for the performance itself, this wonderful group of musicians have yet again set the bar even higher. Bravo to all!

2nd movement 'From Generation to Generation' : Bass flute and harp... mystical. Ethereal... Hebrew lyrics, great solo. (Touched the heart, so hearts ❤❤ for the handsome mezzo!) But oh, that duo!... fabulous. Those women percussionists are truly awesome. They don't miss a beat.

We in the Tallahassee Community Chorus performed this piece last night, 27 Jan '18, in the Florida State University Ruby Diamond Concert Hall. It might be hard for some to believe, but it is more thrilling to perform this piece than it is to listen to it.

oh yes- I can believe it! Tomorrow is the first day of orchestra rehearsals (1/6) before we perform this piece in October. I can't wait to perform it!! I always get tingles when i play in concerts during the songs that sound amazing and I've worked hard on :) (it's gonna be pretty crazy though, lol!!!)

Voices international sang this wonderful Oath to Earth Jubilate Deo in 8 languages and 7 movements. Our great Conductor , James Libbey had this big dream on our 25th anniversary to finally make it happen. The author Dan Forrest had his eye on us from afar. Oh yes each movement was magical and breathtaking. It was challenging with everything coming together, instruments and voices. Absolutely beautiful. 😊
❤ Hopefully it’s written in the stars that we make it happen. One more time.

This is breathtaking. I had the privilege of singing with the BJU Chorale under Dr. Warren Cook's direction in my college days. It was and still is one of the most amazing experiences of my life. Such a humble, talented, kind man. I really miss singing with a choir of this caliber. I'm super jealous that Dan Forrest's music wasn't around back then. He's right up there with John Rutter in my book. Simply mesmerizing, beautiful music. It's been a long time since a piece of music brought tears to my eyes like this does.

Listen to this so often, and sing it so often because it reminds me of God's amazing power through music. This music is just so astoundingly beautiful, in some parts it makes you want to tear up! This makes me yearn for the day we'll all be in Heaven singing praises to the Lord with the angels. Just imagine how glorious that will be!

@@spongbong0 bro if you’re looking to debate someone on the existence of God, please find someone else. I don’t have that kind of time or energy on my hands lol. I commented to express how much I love this entire masterpiece and to express thanks to everyone who worked so hard on this concert, that’s it. Sorry, don’t have to engage in an online debate with you. You’ll find plenty of people who have the time to discuss that with you tho and I hope you find the answers you’re looking for there.

Sacramento got to hear the West Coast premiere of this work as conducted by Donald Kendrick of Sacramento State last weekend (May 12, 2018). It was chosen to honor Kendrick's retirement after 33 years as professor of choral music. It was a major event and a major success.

Reminds me of the year when we sang this masterpiece with the Eastern Shore Choral Society of Fairhope and the USA Concert Choir of Mobile together with the Mobile Symphonie.
The following summer, i believe it was 2016, we sang it with singers from 5 other choirs at Carnegie Hall.
