    In my high school art class, many decades ago, our teacher provided a neat lesson series on shading. He blacked out the windows, then had a strong light on the subject in the middle of the room. Then we were ONLY allowed to draw (charcoal) the shadows and shading, none of the highlights, no lines just shading. It was fun, challenging and really helped us understand shadows. But I wish he was as nice and calming as you are!

    I bought my first sketch book today, I'm 67. I am really enjoying your method and feel that I can draw if I follow along. Thank you so much !

    Thank you, Danny, for this amazing course on drawing. As a kid, I was exicted and happy to draw. I lost the feel while growing up. I draw quite good. 2 years back I got new sketchbook watching one of your videos. I made some drawings with a few random prompts. Again, I lost touch not knowing where to go from there. Watching this course, I now know where to go - "just draw whatever is in front of you." I drew a couple sitting in a park yesterday. I was so happy that to see the picture I created. I was so immersed while drawing. I felt like the kid who was thrilled to draw.
    Thank you so much! 😇

    I have a set of 6 Pitt Artist Pens Soft Brush by Faber Castell which I have not used much. Am now practicing as you demonstrated and using these as there are 4 shades of gray, black and indigo. I can see they will be getting a workout after this lesson. Thank you for doing these. Not only have they been great for teaching techniques and concepts, but, just as important, you inspire courage and confidence. Great fun too!

    I’ve watch a few videos on cross hatch shading and your video had the best break down and explanation me for when and where to apply it. Before I was just trying cross hatching not sure where to put it or at what value to make things look more shaded. So thank you so much for this!!! It’s now clicking more easily in my brain for where to apply it and when to use it.

    Great video! You really broke it down so I could see and understand how to look at the shadows. I find shadow shading intimidating but interesting. Thanks so much for this video. And I would love to see more on pointillism in future!

    Thank you so much for this amazing series. I am currently challenged with how much „background“ or „framing“ does my main motive need. Shall I add some grey, or colors, or can the motive be as is…. Such as: Is it enough to just have the drawing of the dog, or shall I add some background.? What is the effect of adding more or less? I am sure, this is a question of style and preference, but some orientation or discussion of the subject would be so valuable for me. Hard to find anything on this.

    Relatively new subscriber here. Just wondering if there is an episode 13 to this series, or did it stop at 12? 😅 This has been my version of streaming binging!

    I too draw my face. It's handy. I find the more I look , the more I see, and the detail and variations I find drive me crazy, there is no end to them. What I've learned here is to treat the whole face in a sweep. I start in a corner, deal with that, then move to another corner. The overall treatment might be easier on my nerves, more satisfying.

    Oh wow that shading with the marker is the style I am trying to develop. Does it have a name is there any good examples of artists that do it. I use just two tones the paper and an ink brush pen, almost like a lithograph, i can’t seem to find much on the technique or artists I can do master studies on.

    Question relating to shadows and watercolor for skin. Would underpainting with a pale blue, then adding the flesh tone on top of the dry blue render a smooth shading?

    • @SketchBookSkool
      @SketchBookSkool  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Some artists work that way by glazing over a tonal study.
