The scene of burning with a hair iron actually happened in 2006 at a middle school in Korea. The perpetrator, who was 13 or 14 years old, held her classmate's body with a hair iron. The child suffered not only burns, but also protruding damage to her tailbone from the violence. The "hair iron" school violence incident is based on a true story that shocked Korean society at the time.
19:30 In Korea, from 1961 to 2010, it was natural for teachers to beat students. But since the advent of the smartphone, corporal punishment has disappeared as all the evidence has been in the news.
I am Korean.. The curling iron scene really happened. In the past, teachers actually beat students like that mercilessly. Hayesol = Woo Youngwoo as a child.
This is not the case now, but there were many violent teachers in Korea until the 1980s. Due to the influence of the military regime, schools were like another military system, and there was a time when excessive corporal punishment was considered a part of education. Currently, there are no such violent teachers in Korea, and there is no excessive corporal punishment. The school violence using curling iron in the drama was written based on a true story.
I really don't wanna be the guy advocating corporal punishment but isn't it that the lack of corporal punishment and the inability of teachers to somehow dominante discipline in school also emboldens students to bully other. Cause in my country bullying is almost zero, you will be dealt with first by teachers and then by your parents if you do this kind of stuffs.
Song Hye Kyo ( Adult Moon Dong-eun ) really showed a masterful performance in this series and definitely the best that she had among her recent works, which is a big 🖕 to all the people that kept on saying she always chose the same roles and that she doesn't have a wide acting spectrum.
Glad to see you reacting to this show. After watching many feel-good K-dramas, I finally watched this a couple of weeks ago, and it is one of the saddest and darkest things I have seen in a while. Even more-so, since the horror is all rooted in reality, rather in over-the-top fantasy or cartoonish gore. You are so right about that rooftop scene, it is absolutely harrowing in its sadness, horror, and sheer loneliness.
I think Dong-Eun is an exceptionally strong woman/girl because she survived all this and chose not to give up. I have been heavily bullied too, and so many times I've contemplated s*icide, but I didn't and today I'm living a decent little life by myself. But sometimes I catch myself daydreaming about the most cruel ways of revenge...
Best advice I can give as someone who finished this series get a guide or keep track of the names cause by the end everyone and thing you see comes into play both minor and major characters and events. Enjoy cause it’s one of the best slow build series I’ve seen in awhile.
The socio economic effects of bullying in schools is DEEP. especially in a society like south korea. you have teachers/ principals covering things up because they don't want to disrupt anything. especially the RICH families. it's crazy.
Nice reaction! Ready for next episode! This drama is just amazing! You're right Dong Eun is a tough one! Out of all the people they bullied she was the only one showed strength, she's also smart!
I feel so sad to break it to you but it's not exaggerating because it's a movie. The curling iron scene is actually an incident happened in real life. This drama is based on that real life story and even much more worst in real life. And I've seen many koreans saying the bullying scenes we see in movies and dramas are nothing compared to real life. It's actually really more worst in real life.
I may regret asking this, but can you imagine if these psychos had easy access to guns? "Forget the curling iron, let's see how many bullets you can handle before you bleed out."
Shin ye-eun is evil personified in this, after watching her very positive roles in Revenge of other or a cute role in A-teen this drama of her she scares me, if someone is really at the receiving end of that kind of torture it won't take much for them to fall off the cliff to stop this kind of pain and harassment. No wonder suicide rate even amongst students is high in South Korea.
yeah teachers in korea were able to beat their students until a ban in 2011, korea used to be pretty bad but amazing how much it has progressed, especially being pretty much a third world country back in the 70's and now today, it is top 10 economy
Hi thanks for your work, loved your reaction~ I don't know if anyone told you this before. Music in shows are heavily targeted by copyright machines...So it'd be safer to dim the volume of the music😊. Just a suggestion~
More crazy is only few ppl know at same school .. students and teachers just know just little about Lot ppl think wasn't happening in my school, but that's only you don't know. How hard bully or no damaging bully doesn't matter Bully ppl thing it's joke or frankly fun, but mentally broken is same whole life who hurt
7:02 the ceremony performed by shaman is part of Korean belief. Please think about it twice before you want to insult other country cultures and believe by calling it wierd. Of course you wouldn't like people to call whatever you believe is WIERD right!!!!????. What a rude comment from your mother!!! I am not a Korean but I think your mother owe an apology to all Korean out there.

Wow that's so terrible 😢
@@RadinaMalina The bullies now are roam free, working as nurse and social worker. Can you believe that.
@@dreadinside654 nurse and social worker after they literally burned someone, the irony seriously, they have no shame

I don't know if you notice it but the little girl (Park Yeonjin's daughter) is actually the child artist who played Woo Young Woo's kid version

@@niketsinha18 Currently in Korea, students have reached the level of threatening teachers, so it is a problem to think about
actually banned since 2011, so pretty recent, not the 1980s :(

Voodoo comes from African cultures shamans from all over the world. And nothing is rude in this show but torture. Based on true story.
You two have been sheltered for too long. Nothing wrong with it.
In Korea, status, class & money equals everything. Just like much of the world.
Breaking news: Both agencies of Lim Ji Yeon ( Yeonjin ) and Lee Do Hyun ( Yeojeong ) confirmed that they are currently dating.
