The Three Winter Sisters from Hollis, New York were an acrobatic and tumbling act performing in vaudeville shows in the 1930s and 1940s. They performed with Jimmy Durante, the Ink Spots, Edith Piaf at her premiere US appearance at the Rialto Theatre in New York City, and other theatrical acts. The sisters were Effie, Mae, and Dorothy Winter. Their father, Everett H. Winter, a physician, originally from Maine, died of cancer when the girls were very young and they went into performing to earn money. They traveled extensively all over the United States, Europe and South America performing with some of the greatest entertainers of the era. They entertained US armed forces troops while traveling with Bob Hope's USO tour. They were also trained to be trick pony riders and performed in Billy Rose's Broadway production of Jumbo. In this performance they are accompanied by the Glenn Miller Modernaires, Andy Mayo and Reg Kehoe and His Marimba Queens
Someone get me a time machine!!! I just fell in love!!
The Golden Years of mankind, imo, were after WWII until the 21st century began. Before and after has sucked in their own unique ways. I was blessed to have been born in 1963. 😁😁❤❤👍👍👏👏
@@funshine817 I was born in 1969 and I totally agree. So many great advances in medicine after WWII and lots of civic pride. It has all been falling apart ever since 9/11 and with the introduction of the internet and smartphone.
Check out the Ross sisters from that same time period 😍
My Auntie Gwyneth was a wayward flapper!
IN the twenties...
Girls w
Girls were just as wild then....
Back when people had real talent.
Thanks for sharing with us. ✌
When exceptional talent and hard work meet.
I love watching these old clips from days gone by. Great dancers and great looking too.
Dance routine with a lot of Gymnastics and good choreography, Ladies were ahead of their time.
Truly awesome american quality!!! How can anyone not possibly like them!
Very nice.
Ah, a time when women (and people in general) were neither anorexic nor morbidly obese, and when people didn't go before an audience without demonstrable talent. Thanks for finding and sharing this clip.
Actually, tons of people went out before crowds without demonstrable talent. You should really read up on the history of the stage and Vaudeville in particular before commenting.
There were a lot of bad acts. Keep in mind that the number of dance halls, parlors, theaters, and more mot only o the circuit but in every town across America. Between the Civil War and the First World War you had a hundred thousand performers trying to make it and standards were low to entry.
What you see on film was recorded for a reason. It represents the best, not the average performer.
Just romanticizing crap with zero critical thinking ability.
fat people and eating disorders have always existed. i’m not sure how a video of three gymnasts and dancers performing says otherwise…
And only sailors had tattoos.
@@wellesradio the Vaudeville hook wasn’t always a gag.
Just superb!! How lovely to be able to see your grandmother and Gt aunts when they were young, and their fantastic profession!! Wonder if anyone else in the family followed suit? 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Are they still living? They are fabulous 🥰
Gosh darn attractive, and talented ladies. I'll bet the troops enjoyed seeing this Soundie.
AMAZING.
Truly astounding.
I still find this entertaining after all these years.
This is what I call good entertainment...!!!!
Beautiful ladies....
What a beautiful group of ladies, great intertainment, great set of three legs! Never get any good entertainment such as this anymore. Thanks for sharing the video. Loved ever bit of it.
Those Winter sisters have some Spring in their steps. I hope they don't Fall! Summer better than others.
Nice!! 👍👍😁
what beautiful girls. thank you for posting.
Amazing 👏❤❤❤ !! Thank you so much ❤❤❤ !!!
They are beautiful, and talented!
Wipes that's absolutely amazing!😮
Great legs!
I think i am in love... Love.. love
strong legs! Beautiful!
talented, beautiful, ladies with meat on their bones.
and with no tatoos!😀
The days when women were women. I agree with everything that you said!
Once you’ve seen the Ross sisters, it’s hard to be impressed by this.
You can tell them Kardashians to bugger off ,and when they come back they can bugger off again!
Dorothy died on Monday, 20 January. I knew her and she attended my church. She will be greatly missed.
I am so sorry to hear of this. Indeed she shall be missed.
Did she ever talk about her performances? I hope she was able to teach younger generations some of her amazing talents.
RIP
Nice pins on these gals 😍😍😍
Hurts my back to watch this.
LOVE THIS OLD STUFF. THANK YOU !!!
Old America, the good, the kind, the clean.
You really need to read some history, buddy. The mob, racketeering, polio, veteran neglect, rampant sexism, lynchings, separate but definitely not equal, Jim Crow laws, McCarthy witch hunts, lots of untreated syphilis and other STDs, high levels of alcoholism, etc, etc, etc. It was neither clean, nor edifying.
Yes a place that never existed.
@@williamhanlon8159compared to now it certainly did.
Great video ✅ Subscribed. Just noticed this vid was sending me views for my 1920s Flapper AI music. Appreciate you ♥♥♥
What an orchestra is playing!..)Big band///))
Nicely done.
My grandma Dorothy and my aunts Effie and Mae.
***** Mae was the sweetest, most wonderful grandmother. She was indeed married (to Leo Fraser), had three sons, seven grandchildren, and now four great-grandsons. We all miss her and her sisters dearly.
Lelandloses64
Were they??
if you check Dorothy's Obit you will find out. Check the part where it lists Grandchildren.

My dear fellow I have nt the time to check people obituaries, much as it might be nice to do so.
Thank you for your note. ;-)
what a jerk... "My dear fellow" ha ha ha
Просто супер! Вот это настоящее искусство, а не современные кривляния.
That was Pretty Cute 🐣 🐣 🐣
I have to confess - I listened with my eyes!
those wonderful times are long gone
Love this, thank you for the smile.
Lookin good ladies.
Wow!A great find to watch!
That's talent.
Ahh the golden age of talent
This is great! Makes me hungry for some salad, potato salad.
Awesome!
Fantastic!
Now those are what I call chorus girls🥰👍
They don't even look like they're breathing hard!
Hopefully they didn’t smoke like everyone else did at that time
Даааа фигурки у них не гимнастические , а что вытворяют , просто загляденье 👍👋👋👋
The Ross Sisters: Hold our beers.
No comparison. Ross sisters are far better. Also they sing during their act!
I know right?...!! I like the Ross sisters better!!
The Ross Sisters are way more flexible and do some unbelievable things, like the stunt with the apple. But the Winter Sisters do some gymnastics the Ross Sisters apparently can't, like the 360-degree flip. So they both have their strengths. And all six are gorgeous.
SeaRose - And what a song it was! Solid Potato Salad! Awesome!
@@danielschechter8130 So the Rolls Royce should be the only produced and sold? In Vaudeville days, you would only see them months apart.
Soundies-always entertaining.
they and the ross sisters the best
Amazing wow
Awesome!💥 😵
What talent those ladies had! I was wincing though, seeing them do that tumbling on an unforgiving stage floor instead of gymnastics mat.
Amazing!!
That was so fun. Someone give me a time machine! :-)
very nice! ;]
Magnificent!!! 👏👏👏👏😍
i GOTTA COMPARE THEM TO THE ROSS SISTERS SOLID POTATO SALAD.
Yes these muscular girls were good the Ross Sisters look like cute young women who can do more than just dance they did some crazy unbelievable things and they were cute as buttons
The Ross Sisters win that contest.
Why compare? Can't we just say they were all fantastic?
Watching this video I thought this was them. My bad. Both groups are amazing.
Can’t work the cap-lock key?
Bravo - ausgezeichnet
fantastic
amazing talent !
The main one in the middle is athletic as heck.
The ladies are charming.
Wow! Some of the finest legs I have ever seen!!!
I was just enjoying a video of three talented people and now I am wondering why everyone's so angry in the comments....
They would have killed it in a cheer comp nowadays
Натуральная красота👍👍👍
New material for the Tokyo gymnastics floor routine. :)
Как же классно танцуют, молодцы девчонки
Beautiful women...the greatest generation... God bless America
Крутые девушки!
Love love love it
ОЧЕНЬ КРАСИВО!❤❤❤
Athletic and too damn cute.
Much better times.
Pretty nifty dancing there!!!
Very livery ;)
cool!
I saw the Ross sisters. ....they where way way ahead of their time
I saw the Ross Sisters too. I can't remember how. I think it was recommended to me by the grand youtube fairies in the sky. I just can't remember. But I'm sure I watched it of my own free will. ;>)
The Ross sisters do freaky things within their dance routine; it puts these little tumble games to shame. I mean where else can you see someone literally sit on their own head?
When I first watched Solid Potato Salad, I only kept watching bc I thought the outfits were cute but then they got busy and I couldn't take my eyes off the screen. I was gob smacked. I have not seen a better talent before or since.
Beautiful angels
If only the untalented of Today would watch the Talented of Yesterday !
Que lindo!adorei!😍😍👍👍👍🇧🇷🇧🇷👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
Some of the screen effects during the Winter Sisters dance was kind of strange. I picture a human sized fly sitting in the directors chair, watching the girls intently through his hundreds of fly lenses. I don't know why I haven't any friends.
wonderful :D
quel charme, quelle grace ! what a lovely "jupette"
very talented
Cute as buttons, every one!
pretty dam HOT for the times!
I'd say, hot for all times.
"Aaah but I was so much older then, I'm younger than that now!" Zimmerman
This goes pretty well with ELO's "Mr. Blue Sky."
Sí me pierdo en la dimensión del tiempo quiero llegar aquí.jaja..
Wow!
I likems the plump one
Gotta be gymnasts. Also, not as thin as most people were back then. A real treat, thanks for posting.
Nice.
