Best advice ever! I have experienced a similar burn out lately. I am so happy you're back here with us, and that we can do life together, but don't ever feel bad that you took time for you, and to be with your family. 😊
Awesome! Thank you! I am so happy to be back but will really have to not jump into bad (and stressful) habits! Hopefully I can see you in the GOHQ chat. I'm scheduled for 4 pm ET Sept 9th.
Hi Terri, Your channel came across my feed today for the first time. I'm so glad it did. I can relate to much of what you said. I have to be intentional and not allow myself to burn out. It's easy to just go and go when you love what you do but then I think it just creeps up on you and realize... I'm tired! I have a ticket to the Get Organized HQ Virtual Conference. I'll look you up there. God will give you the message you need to share and you'll do a great job! 🙌🏼 Have fun with it! 💖
Thank you, Terri, for praying for us! I’m glad you took time away to rest, ground yourself, and examine your dreams and priorities. May the joy of the Lord fill your days as you follow His lead!
What a treat to see your face and hear your voice after a little break! And i appreciate you modeling something that is so important, taking a step back and tending to yourself. I am trying to look at "negative" feelings (like burnout, apathy, anger) not as something to despair over or shove away or just grit my teeth and get through - but as information. What is that feeling telling me about what I need in my life? You are right, this is SO much more than a cleaning channel. I am not religious but I always stick around for your prayer. I don't need to the same belief system as someone else to benefit from their sincerely offered expressions of faith and love.
Hey Terri, sorry you suffered burnout - amazing that you got through it and are out the other end. I am just throwing it out there but I don't think it is necessary to change position/background so often in your videos. This could in turn save you time in making future videos because I don't think it will make an overall difference if when you are chatting to us you stay in the same position - just like your viewer is most likely doing with this type of video - I sat with my laptop and coffee at the kitchen table.....though 99percent of the time I will only listen and will clean as I listen. Will still stay subscribed - no matter what, im just making a suggestion for you in the hope it saves you some time xx
@@lynseymoffett9656 Wouldn’t it be fun to just (virtually) sit across the kitchen table from Terri. As you suggest it may be easier for Terri and still so enjoyable for us. 🩷
One of the few people I watch on a regular basis (and never miss one!) almost always has the same thumbnail - him sitting on a chair in his living room. It makes it very easy to find, it's familiar in a world upside-down, and it's just plain old simple and straightforward. He tried spicing it up earlier this year or maybe it was last year...most of us told him to just go back to the way he'd always done it, which he did. Change can be nice, but sometimes change isn't the best thing. In my opinion, anyway.

Thank you. I’m learning to be open about what’s going on, the root cause, and what I don’t have to do. It’s a battle but something most of us need to do. So excited about the conference!!!
Terri, Terri, Terri! WOW! YOU, beautiful lady, are no longer a flybaby in my book! You are now a flylady! All of those years of you consistently working on just getting habits and routines down in ALL the areas of daily life (not just cleaning) have paid off to where you bo longer have to check off all the boxes to keep track ifof what you're doing. It's just getting done. That is the WHOLE point of this system anyway, from what I understand. Ha! You said sonething about a body-length sized to do and routine list. I literally WEAR mine on each fore arm (except when I go out in public, ofcourse lol) . My goal is to be able to know exactly how much time I need in the mirning and in the evening to get the most important things done, so that I can maje sure I'm ready for the smday when I need to be. There is way more that I do fir myself and for the household than the housekeeping tasks, and those things taje at least 2 hours. Tgey are non-negituables that get me ready to face the day; which includes an hour long morning stretch tgat I cannot skip. My desire is to be able to explore all the other areas of homemaking. The more creative and fun things like; getting back into my crochet, and really learning a new skill I picked up in the past year or so. .sewing, and canning and gardening, and so many other things. I am not lazy at all from tge time I wake up until I go to bed; between self-care, caring for the animals, and keeping the house running. I get little breaks here and there, like right mmnow. I am constantly looking trying to come up with ways to make those routine sessions easier and quicker so that I can spend my time crafting, reading, enjoying time with hubby and furry kids; and all of the other things that make it worth the effort to establish these habits. You said something about leaving the house keeping things imperfectly done to go enjoy an activity. That is definitely something I'm working on...knowing when I'm at a good stopping point. It's interesting that you are touching on these things; because I've been re-evaluating my non-negotiables for the same reason. I think I no longer need to worry about a shiny sink because I'm good at wiping them down whenever I finish a load of dishes. I also don't think I need to worry about which time if day I swish and swipe the bathrooms, because they're staying clean enough for anyone to use in between; and they do get deep cleaned where needed during zone cleaning without trying to deep clean the whole thing. And I already have laundry under control and have had it undercontrol since I was 12. To me that looks like, during my morning routine, move whatever laundry is in progress forward a stage (including starting a load if the washer is free), during the day, moving it forward at least one time again, and in the evening, moving it forward again. I do several loads a day, so all the loads are never complete. But, I rarely have piles of loads lying around waiting to be washed or waiting to be folded because my habits are on auto pilot. So, I've been trying to build the same routibe with my dishes that I do with my laundry. In stead of striving for an empty sink every time; or even at the end of the night, I'll strive for moving them forward a stage with each routine session. I hand wash my dishes and each liad gets a siak tgen a pre-waah=ribse with tge spinge tgenba final wash with a ckean dish cloth. Yes; I'm very oarticukar about gandwashing them for sanitation reasons. Aslong as my counters get cleared each time I use it I can still get in there and do the preppibf; cooking ir ither work. And do dishs as I work. . As far as the daily swish and swipe, I'm going to just re-list each one as daily I stead of morning, afternoon or evening. As long as they get touched up once a day, it really doesn't matter when it gets done. If I just make tgese changes with the dishes and tge bathrooms, it MIGHT help my brain to be more Intuituve in the mornings about the other priorities, and not feel stressed and resentful about not getting all the housekeeping tasks done. If my brain can focus on all the other more important things in the morning other than what cleaning tasks need to get done, I MIGHT also be less scatter-brained, which will likely cut my time down. The same goes for the evening routine. I am so so so proud of you! I can not get a ticket for the conference. I will be unplugging for the most part myself for a while. However, I WILL be rooting for you! You ARE an amazing cheerleader and mentor! And, I am so happy to see how far you've come and that's paying off fir you and your fsmily now! I love to see you here because you help me learn and grow, and that's EXACTLY the reason why you need to scale down yt and do tge videos more ibtuitivelt; spontaneously, and creatively, as it fits into YOUR life, and not try to be rigid about it. I gave a sneaking suspicion alot the youtubers I watch and ludten to are feeling it too with their ghanbrls...re-evaluating where yt fits into their lives. No matter what happens with uour vhanbwk, know thst I am proud of you; I pray for you alot, and I am sooooooop excited for you! 😊❤ Again, you ARE flying! You have built your foundation where your home now serves YOU instead of YOU seV ing your HOME! Congratulations!
Omg, you are such an amazing inspiration to me. Thank you for witnessing to me like you do. I truly wish we could have a real conversation sometime! It’s good to see your progress because it inspires me to keep moving forward too. Thank you my friend.
The algorithm hasn't been showing me your videos. I remembered you had a lot going on so I just said a prayer for you when I realized you weren't on YT. Glad to hear you are well!
I am glad you found me in spite of the ups and downs. Being on here is such a blessing and mission for me but I also have to balance my own home and family so things may be a little more relaxed. Hopefully it still connects.
I have been a FlyBaby for a number of years. During that time, I fell out of my routines. I tried to do too much too fast, and I got burned out. Now I’m trying to slow it down and be less of a perfectionist, but it’s not easy. Change of habit is hard and take time. I just found your channel. I think I’m going to enjoy this channel content.
I had the same experience. I’m /I’ve learned to embrace my natural strengths and rhythm. It is not easy but I feel more balanced and in control. I’m happy you found the channel and thank you for giving it a try!
Breaks are nice! And Life keeps throwing those curveballs that makes it hard to stay in a routine, especially with perfectionist tendencies. I will also add that breaks can be dangerous. They can get longer and longer and longer. Deferred maintenance can create much bigger problems. I find I take bigger breaks now, but for the purpose of simplifying. Crystallizing what is truly most important (and usually the most difficult thing to do, and the thing that generates the most resistance, and the biggest urge to procrastinate). Currently in a new decluttering phase to adapt to a loved one’s diagnosis and accompanying needs, while trying to figure out how to stay joyful and energetic and receive love and support - so after a little cogitation, it means letting go of things that don’t support those goals. Letting go of the wherewithal of a few projects is worth it. Going after purging old files wasn’t a priority until more square footage for a healing space was needed. I wish now that I had not taken QUITE so many breaks in the past. No one told me that these new challenges would occur smack in the middle of travel, houseguest, Hurricane, power and cell outages, the partial fall of a tree, a broken fence and the threat of the remaining trunk to take out a structure on the neighbor’s property, and a car that lost its air conditioning in the midst of SE Texas summer heat, and having three expensive “repairs” leaving me with the same problem, and some days lost to heatstroke symptoms. Hmm. When I spell it out, it sounds horrific. Sometimes life doesn’t just throw a curve ball: it unleashes all the pitching machines at once! I say life, but I mean someone else. 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼 is the way through, doing this with the One I count on the most.
You are so right. This was a big break and probably too long. I had imposter syndrome all over again when I sat down to film. That was so hard to overcome and took a lot longer this time. Decluttering is absolutely the hardest thing. I had to face some hard truths when I downsized from 5000 sq feet to 1600 sq feet to 800 sq feet that I was carrying around things that no one else wanted because I didn't want to let them go. ...but I didn't really want to use them either. Just the memories and feeling that I should keep it. I am praying for all that you are going through but you have a great mindset and if I can help keep you motivated and focused I will. I love the way you related to the curve ball with the pitching machine, really has me smiling in agreement!
@@TodaywithTerriK - If it helps, you don’t come across to me as an imposter at all. If you were, you probably wouldn’t show your house the way you do! And wow, right now, my house is looking a lot like your desk in one of the other videos. Only that sort of disaster has spread across kitchen counters, breakfast table, dining room, all in honor of trying to finish painting, and putting a home office back together, and to create a serene and decluttered home. (Yes, I can Declutter one drawer at a time, but everything had to come out of the home office, and I felt the need to Marie Kondo all my projects, In the hopes that the sheer quantity would help drive my ability to get rid of things. And to some degree it has, But there is still too much left! Your downsizing from 5000 to 800 ft.² is a huge deal. Congratulations. I resonate with your feelings about carrying around things that others don’t want, and that maybe you don’t want to use either. Family antiques that just aren’t really functional for me anymore have slowly left the building, but the charming spinet desk from my grandmother is still here. I’m trying to Palm it off on a young relative. (that’s how I got rid of a lot of crystal and glassware). As for my memory boxes… I went into one box and discovered memories of cool things that I had done that I had totally forgotten about! My memory isn’t getting better as I get older. So I definitely have the feeling that I should keep that stuff! I did make a little binder to hold letters from former patients, that’s a sweet memory and it’s easy to pull off the shelf and read. But I’ve got another 20 boxes or so to deal with. 😬 Prayers are definitely welcome 😊. I feel like I’m in the middle of a spiritual battlefield right now. Responding to your comment, somehow reminds me that I need to keep in touch with my friends, and other loved ones, even if it takes time away from decluttering. Only they need to be a little breaks instead of long ones. Again, try not to feel like an imposter because you don’t seem like one to me. We are all just people on a journey, & you just happen to have taken the extra effort to learn how to do this TH-cam thing & to reach more people that you could’ve in person.
I truly believed He brings people to you. My very best friend I met after a video resonated with her. She lives on the other side of the country and I’ve never met her in person. We have different opinions but big hearts and it’s is amazing that she says the things I really need to hear when family are too close or too busy to notice. I’m so glad we’ve met. You are doing so well. I love that you have a letter binder. Sharing the glassware too. With each piece you are blessing them functionally but also with tradition that they don’t understand yet. With memories, go slow and enjoy the journey. Everyday a little so you can be reminded of those moments. If you enjoy writing, write the story down and maybe a grandbaby will find your book of memories one day. I’m learning to embrace each step on the process more but I can’t get overwhelmed if it’s too messy. It’s a balance. So many areas I have yet to work on but I’m content with my pace now. Forward only forward.
@@TodaywithTerriK 🙏🏼 Thank you for your encouragement! And you are so right. You know, instead of decluttering efficiently, I had spent my time reaching out and loving on other people, And I felt like that was my ministry. Well, those tables have turned! These people organized a work party. Found a way to take down the remaining tree trunk. Cut it in pieces. Brought materials and rebuilt the fence section! Another relative took over my car problem, and I just heard five minutes ago that the air conditioning is working better than before as they found the elusive electrical problem, and then they fixed another problem that was going to cost me a pretty penny. This will not cost as many pennies because A lot of the labor has been donated to us. Strong believers are praying for us. The scary diagnosis has brought some relatives close, and they are having another chance to really hear the gospel clearly from people other than just us, because they have come to church with us. Other friends are driving my loved one to work when his treatment makes him feel unsafe behind a wheel. Yesterday they brought comfort items and a new television, and set it up. So many people are reaching out to us that I barely have time to stop texting and start decluttering again, 🤣! But I am making headway and will continue! I like your idea of writing stories - An idea that will definitely pace me differently (slower) than I thought. And I will remind myself of your example, as you learn to embrace each step of the process more. I’m praying for such a transformation of my heart and mind as I go through this. Praise God, from whom ALL blessings flow! I pray blessings on your journey, for the active work, and for the quiet spaces in between that are also important for the work. 🙏🏼❤️
Terri, I have, in the past week, been enjoying lots of fun and relaxing breaks between doing all of the things! My kitchen has finally gotten to where wirking and cleaning in it is so easy, it no longer takes away from time for ither housework, time to sit and enjoy a relaxing activity, spend time with hubby and the fur kids, or get ither housework done. I no longer feel like I'm treading water trying to keep up. My morning routines and evening routines are easier too! And the exercise can now be done AFTER my morning routine, so if I WANT to lay in bed and watch tv with hu by or have conversation with him before I get dressed, I can, and not feel rushed on the mornings. Once zi get up, it only takes me roughly an hour to get myself ready, take care of the gur kids, and do my morning cleaning tasks. Can you believe it took me nrstly FOUR YEARS to get to this point? Do you do know how much eadier it will be now to move forward in the rest of the major de-cluttering and the maintenance that I'm already doing? I can't thank you enough!
Fly lady was a game changer when I was in my 20s and had no idea how to keep up with the house. I’m grateful for it…I’m not in my 50’s and I still use some of the ideas. BUT I have found that, after my piano teaching week is finished (I teach out of my home Monday thru Thursday), I need a couple of days to either do nothing with the house or the bare minimum. If I try to keep everything just right thru the weekend I just feel like I don’t get to rest. I almost need my temporary messes to keep me balanced🤷🏼♀️❤️
Yes! I havec2 days out of tge week where I only focus on dsily routines, and I don't try to be rigid aboutcwhen tgey get done. I'm still plenty busy on my off days, bit ai-m trying to figure out ways to dimplify tge dsilis further, because it's the dailies that are tge most overwhelming to me.
FlyLady is such an amazing foundation. I’ve modified it but sometimes I even try anew plan to add interest. I don’t clean on weekends anymore either. It’s time with the family.
@TodaywithTerriK it is! The structure of the system I do easy to use to create our own lists of routines! I agree about not working on the weekends or whatever 2 days you use for off days. The only work I do on yhise days is non-begitiable dailies (cleaning or ithwrwuse) and then do a quick glance ad plan for the coming week. I don't even so my silly de-clutter on those day(but in actually, my daily de-clutter looks like, as I'm tidying and I see ai need to get rid of something, I deal wirh it right then and there as part of my tidying session).
I wish that fly lady had worked for me. My cleaning routine fell apart after I developed an autoimmune disease that left me falling behind consistently. I also have to keep up with other responsibilities that were more critical than my cleaning routine. My husband does help some, but he has his own health issues that slow him down. We are in survival mode right now.
First of all, praying for you. Secondly, I feel like there are seasons we go through so during this season don’t fixate on deep cleaning. Just do as much as you can to keep life moving until it levels out. I’m so happy your hubby is supportive and not critical. It will get better and every day breathe and be reminded that this too shall pass. Bless you and keep your head up beautiful lady.
You are so right❤, thank you❤. Also for the prayer, I really needed❤. I am struggling with one person in my job who sit and work with me in the same room. She makes my life really hard. I love my job but I hate it to fight against her. She always thinks she is better in everything, talks behind my back and tell every little mistake, I made, directly to our boss. She will retire in 2 years. And believe me, I count the days. I felt so tired and burned out, that I did only the absolut minimum in my home and I hate this. BUT I study my bible and GOD gives me his answer to my problem with this one bad person. HE is already fight for me and I can wait for his help. I trust and believe him. And now I am no longer afraid of my colleague. I will last the next 2 years with her thanks to GOD. And now I start again with my fly lady program. Thank you so much for your helpful videos. ❤ Greetings from Germany
Work situations are difficult for everyone but negativity can try to attach to you. Way to go for seeing this for what it is. A test. A friend of mine had the same issue and openly prayed before eating and tried to always be positive in spite of the situation. One day the negative coworker called her and asked if she woul pick her up for work. Evidentally she respected and trusted her to do the right thing even when she had no reason to. While the situation did not really change after, its a great reminder that people do see the goodness in you even if they don't want to. BTW, I am excited to be traveling to Europe in Dec for my 1st ever trip over the pond. Can't wait to explore the beauty and crafts.

Again, you ARE flying!
@@TodaywithTerriK you are so welcome! :)
Prayers are definitely welcome 😊.
Glad to see you back!
Thank you my friend.
Got my ticket! You deserve this Terri ❤
Thank you so much. I’m gonna need real feedback afterwards if possible!
Just be yourself! You do such a good job of conveying empathy, understanding, and compassion! I have no doubt you will do amazing 🤩
I appreciate the support! Praying God can use me.

Onempre thing I thought of. You didn't QUIT Flylafy. You MASTERED IT! It is mow part of how you roll :)
Ha, thanks! I’m a FlyLady Master…not sure Marla would agree. I really wish she had time to collaborate!
The book that helped me was the book called the ruthless elimination . HIGHLY Recommend this book that are burnout or overwhelmed
Thank you. I am looking on audible to see if it’s there.
Thank you!❤
The Ruthless Elimination of Hurry by John Mark Comer
It is available on Audible. Thanks!
@TodaywithTerriK yes It's on Audible too..
God Is Good!!! ❤
HE IS!!!
@@TodaywithTerriK Thank you, dear Terri❤, your answer means a lot to me! I wish you a great time in Europe! We have spent our holidays in Spain this year😊.
Congratulations on your HQ invitation
It’s such a big deal for me but God says I am qualified.
I am working slow, simple intentional living.
I struggle with slow and simple. I want it but it just doesn’t match my personality really.
I'm 74 years old suffering from Fibromyalga,Long covid bad arthritis.I have to clean a little every day and some days I do nothing. Its according how I feel.
It is something that I have to do a little at a time!
I use to have a channel for awhile. It was very time consuming and my anxiety went up. I deleted my channel.
I would love to connect sometime. I could use a friend that gets it!
Ok
Miss you but understand
Thank you my friend.
