I forgot to say in the video! It does NOT purge air! wohoo 🥳 also, about the intake, I saw someone open it up and put a sponge inside to make it safe for small fish. I tried to open it, you could see that in the video, broke a nail and gave up to mourn the loss.. but you can give that a go :) I still don't like the intake much 🤭 Heeeey check out an entire playlist of NOT SPONSORED reviews on all sorts of aquarium products! th-cam.com/play/PLlWgHgr5ZZjvuP2srrLiYcpzFlUCHpIAT.html
?? oh I got what you were on about I reread the previous comment, think they meant intake screen not a filter made out if screen.. I think 🤔there are steel mesh intakes for sale actually, problem is they clog fast but I used them in shrimp tanks before they work awesome at saving baby shrimplets.. but you gotta clean them often..
Should have reached out to Oase. They have updated parts like the new pre filter intake tube and the filter head bottom cover plate. I bought a 350 and a 650 last March and they had the updated parts already. only issue I had was the impeller on the 350 went bad (defective) but I just installed another one and back to super quiet :-)
For me the intake and outtake in itself might work as it would be for an aqua-terrarium with turtles. The problem for me would be if they are long enough, as the water level is at least 30cm down from the top of the tank. So I need them to be around 40cm down to work properly (and avoid them getting above water when the water level drops due to evaporation). How long are these parts combined? I could fit the bends with the long side on the inside, but would they reach long enough to be properly under water?
Nice video. Thank you for taking the time to do this review. Its good to have a sound review ( among the rest of the pros/cons). Not a lot of videos showing sound level of filters which i believe is as important as any other feature. Nice filter candidate for my next setup! Can you share where you bought your aquarium from? I also live in cyprus but the size you have seems so expensive here where olibetta has it 450-500 but doesnt ship it
Hi, yea sadly I bought it from Cy and as you may know, there is only 1 importer and 1 price.. I paid the whole 750 euros or however much, around that price.. but I sold everything I had (small tanks, lights etc) to afford it 😖
I have this filter and it's been running in my tank for a few months now. I like it, not keen on the fittings as I find the intake can come apart. Also how do you clean the tubes? Something I'm not sure off 😂
I'm honestly surprised that other brands haven't made their own canister filters with a built in prefilter. So far I only know of this and the Biomaster. You'd think there'd be more since it's such a useful feature
I have an Aquatop 400 I bought for $279 US dollars 5 years ago. I had a small leak problem a month ago fixed with a gasket replacement. Otherwise the filter is dead silent & powerful. I have a large prefilled sponge assembly in the tank so I have rarely opened the canister which is filled only with biomedia.
Can you use a fluval inlet and outlet fittings. Or what other makes would fit. And can you purchase them separately, i agree dont want the glss tubes, and I'm told the stainless steel ones will rust thanks good video.
Great honest review. I'm torn now between the aquael ultramax, the tetra ex 800, or the JBL e902. I watched your tetra ex800 review too. Which do you prefer and why?
I’ve been running a 600 Biomaster thermo for 3 years and it’s been the best filter I’ve ever used. I thought of an Aquael as a secondary filter and have done for a while now. Flow, price and the pre filter sounds great but I knew spare parts were an issue a few years ago which may have been resolved now. The intake is horrendous and I just don’t feel the build quality is at the same level of the Oase. They have an upgraded Oase BioMaster out just now that will no doubt come with a premium price which should iron out the issues some folk have had with them. Mine hasn’t had any issues but I think I would rather spend my money on another Oase than this Ultramax. I don’t think it’s a bad filter but I don’t think it has the overall quality of the Oase.
You could try a couple of types of plumbers Teflon thread take available. It is very thin and seals well. I am just trying to decide on a new filter. Thanks for an excellent presentation!
Hey super review thanks, so it’s working for you! Regarding pipes, have you tried the Aquario Neo flow or the AQUAPRO brands? Both compatible with each other. It’s a strong suggestion to check them out, they are so cool and versatile to replace the usual that come with the external filters :). Cheers!
Hi, yea always wanted to try their stuff but they are not available anywhere here or a store that delivers to Cy, so for now I can’t get a hold of anything from these brands 😭
Quality - price isnt bad at all. The reason im afraid to try Aquael is i heard the customer support isnt the greatest and its alot harder to find spare parts compared to Eheim, Oase, Fluval from what ive seen.
I fully agree with you that the fittings are really ugly and fragile. I also changed from Oase Biomaster to Aquael 1500 few months ago. I am still looking for a better replacement for the fittings.
i would like to say that if you next time opening prefilter wait 2 seconds longer before closing second valve. you will have no leak at all. using aquael utramax 2000 last 6 months and never had any issues.
I think your English is fine, however, if you'd like a word that's better than 'outtake' how about 'return' (return fitting, return hose). I don't have any tanks that require a canister filter.. yet but I've used lots of industrial filter pumps and that's the word I would normally use to describe that side of the plumbing.
I have one ultra max 2000 and aquael hypermax 4500 bt , but the in take of your ultra max is like of the very old filter the make first the have beter one now for many years , maby you need to talk to your seller , greetings to you from Iceland 🙂
Hi, well I see on their official website they present the same fittings as I got www.aquael.com/products/aquaristics-us/external-filters-us/ultramax/ do you have a pic or link with the new fittings? I’m very curious! 😁 later edit: is it like this? www.olibetta.com/aquael/telescopic-pole-basket-ultramax-2000 well the pipe is way better! Intake? Mmmmmmmmm.. meh lol but improvement!
I have 4 UItramax filters, two 2000 and two 1500 and they are great for the money. I do agree that the intake/outtake piping it comes with is horrible. I always use JBL inset/outset kits or Eheim Installations kit 1 and 2. I use 16/22 tubing on my Ultramax 2000 units, i just use a 19 to 16 stepdown fitting :)
Yeah those fittings are pretty ugly. I'm not sure I would like them even if I could paint them clear. Not invisible paint, just clear, you've got to walk before you run after all.
You are very rich. Buy toys. I don't have the money for it and I don't understand why people pay for it. Buy an Eheim classic or Fluval canister filter once and peace of mind for the rest of your life.

Can you make a stainless screen to form a filter that provides protection from sucking up pretty much everything.
@@kerrypitt9789Don't you think it would be easier just to not have a filter at all at that point.

I’m hoping more will start to redesign their filters from now! 🤞
Great review. Are you using inline diffuser now??
Yessss! I also already filmed a review for it 😁

I have the Aqual hypermax 4500 and love it ! It’s huge and has two inputs and outputs . It’s amazing !

This filter is around $500 here in Australia 🇦🇺 😮
Nice video. Maybe the same step I have to do... change my Biomaster for this Aquael... Or a Eheim Pro 4...
