Usually Maj, Arya shows lot of patience as a host and is very respectful specially when there is a veteran on hot seat.
First time saw him interrupting his guest this frequently. The general was not allowed to complete any of his answer/statement. Maj. Sahab was in rush today. Funny though..but still a good discussion
He wanted to hear what he thinks, but the Air Marshal gave him a reality check about other 100 factors which he was not able to consider, it made him slip.

For the engines, IAF is responsible not HAL, because IAF was hellbent on having American engines in Tezas. They always complain against Russian engines by saying they leaves trail of smoke. That's what I heard from many defence experts.
No doubt quality always stands first, but according to some experts quantity itself is a quality and I agree. We all have seen how hundreds of primitive Hamas rockets saturated the Israeli Iron Dome system Recently the Iranian missiles breached the Israeli AD system. If China sends say 10 or 15 J-31s after every F-35, I don't think F-35 will able to escape since they don't carry that much air to air missile.

My opinion is from a old news report where IAF termed FGFA Sukhoi , 57 as 4.5 gen plane & Obviously F 35 is very advanced atleast as we know by public disclosure of info about its sensor
Problem is operating cost About 40 lakh per hour ( comparatively Rafale operating cost is about 15 lakh per hour ) & Days of maintenance time period between each flights , ( Time between each flight for Sukhoi 30 MKI is about 18 hours to 30 hours as some unverified public sources say )
You can check public records of its other operators which sometime says it's Maintenance is so much that many times there was No flight for weeks , exact reason not mentioned but mainly pointed towards Maintenance problems ,

F 35 is high tech sensors whose tech will not be shared with India so very less chance of Transfer of tech , & so it totally dependent on USA support to fly ,

One of most important point is that India is searching for Multi role fighter with Air dominance role , like Sukhoi 30 MKI or Tejas ,
In that thing F 35 is not that good for Dog fights
( Despite its beyond visual range capability ) India wants a Dog fighter too which is lacking in it

Thing is that F 35 is mainly for Stealth Strike bypassing the air defense network or sometimes attacking then too
So
My view is that F 35 will suck up too much logistics support of Airforce & this may affect Indeginizous development & deployment & testing of Tejas

That is why India may not want a fifth generation fighter jet , despite from enthusiasts point of view just purchase of squadron won't cost much ( but people forget after purchasing maintenance cost & Man power & other logistics nightmare )
I don't know What is current assesment of Sukhoi 57 by Airforce
But I think Airforce has seen both F 35 & SU 57 both & have both of their assessments, But due to lack of Complete transfer of Technology & Intellectual property ( IP ) ( Why it is made that way ?= IP) is Not given so they are Not interested ,
For more details , you should read Indian Airforce Officers views & even diplomats viewpoint which will be more concise & on points of problems !!

To get F35, u need to be proper western ally i.e. go to wars where they go and support them 100% if we dont, they wont give simple. Turkey also purchased the S-400 and can no longer import the F-35. India is not even an ally of the US to begin with. They may be able to buy F-16s, but they will not sell F-35s to India, which is not an ally.

They are not even competing with India. They have their equation with US.
It is crucial to correct the trade equation and simultaneously improve our defense capabilities while taking diplomatic support from like minded countries.

Topic 2 : Air defence systems and potential to make in India should be increased, precision is very important
Topic 3 : Tank manufacturing should be scrapped, as tanks are like duck to shoot down, wanna say rather than spending Arjun , Bhishma go for American archer like systems
Topic 4 : What about transport capabilities, we need those aircraft and more Chinook like helicopters.
Topic 5 : Army modernization in terms of superior armament technically advanced one.
Concluding, see what Israel do first they defend the foreign attack and then strike with some drones and aircrafts or missile but they are all precision guided , in the radius of of less than 5 meters.

The only solution is to devlop kaveri engine to boost fighter aircraft production and also devloping s 500 like defence systems to counter stealthy platforms of adversaries

I'd be delighted if the retired Air Marshal decided to name his home "Khosla ka Ghosla." 😄
The only way for IAF to have quantity is to do the following
1) Add new 60 SU-30 in Super Sukhoi Configuration
2) Work with LM or Boeing and get TEDBF with 5- gen capabilities within 3 years. Make an AirForce version of the same on the side and push it to manufacturing with private sector. Make atleast 300 of these
3) Accelerate Tejas Mk2 and push it to assembly line with in next 3 to four years and make atleast 300 of them

Dear Gaurav Ji,
Our Air force required atleast seven squadron of French Rafale and atleast Five squadron for our Navy.
Yes .... Five ( 5 ) squadron for our Navy. Right now we are operating two Aircraft carrier. Each one can operate minimum 30 fighter Aircraft and 6 Helicopter. So it becomes 60.
If our Navy and Air force order for this number Right Today. You know or everyone knows that how much time it will take to becomes our part.
Their is another Third Aircraft carrier is coming in next 5 to 6 years.
What we will do with this Third Aircraft carrier. We also need Aircraft for that one also.
I don't know what we / our Government is thinking. After AMCA we are thinking for TEDBF. It will came after 20 years. Don't know why we are not trying to match Fire Power of our Forces with time ? Why we are waisting our precious time ?

Excellent presentation. Perhaps the next Podcast could be a focus on Air Defense Systems (Surface to Air Missile Systems, Electronic Counter Measures, Laser Guns etc). Large numbers of these systems could be procured and deployed at a comparative lower cost to complement the Air Force.

Thanks for your video and it gave me a holistic perspectives of currently what's on the IAF's platter and where it should go as narrated by the Retd. Air Chief. I am totally in agreement with the Chief's conclusion on increasing IAF's strength in a phase manner while India works on Fifth Gen aircraft on an accelerated schedule. The point is India's decision making process is so slow. And of course, sooner the top dogs of the IAF & ministers understand that the cost of TOT will be dear on wallet the better will be the IAF's ability in catching up the 42 squadrons. Not sure if the 42 squadrons still an appropriate figure for India in light of neighbor's 1000 aircrafts as mentioned by the Chief. Hope, someone is listening in Delhi.

Imho we should side by side concentrate on missile technologies, indigenous air defence systems and expendable and cost effective drone manufacturing tech to boost our defense capabilities

It was a really good podcast which brought forward challenges and roadblocks the IAF is facing and the roadmaps which can be taken to mitigate the challenges....
Stick to basis do work, make in india, geography dependant innovations .... afterall it is our land waters spaces are of interestt, ....we need to protect atleast...people provide and research and develop what they need and of their interest...
